The Handy Squad were an absolute disaster from start to finish I called them about a couple of jobs, one being a toilet that wouldn't stop flushing. The first time the guy didn't show up at all and it was only, at the end of the 2 hour slot when I got in touch and asked what time I should expect him, that they told me he had overrun on his previous job and wasn't coming at all. When he came the following week he didn't have a part that would fit the toilet, but he did hang 2 pictures. I paid for the visit. The following time he brought the wrong part for the toilet, and unscrewed one stuck light fitting. He told me he had checked with the office and they had said there was to be no charge for this visit, because he hadn't been able to fix the toilet yet. He was going to order 3 different types of part for the toilet and see which one fitted. He told me they would get in touch when the parts arrived. Over a week later I called and was told the parts hadn't even been ordered yet. They were being ordered the next day. Another week went by. I got a call from the office telling me I still owed £72 for the 'job we've finished'. I explained that the job hadnt been done yet and that I had offered the guy a cheque at the end of the previous visit but he had told me I didn't owe anything. The very sanctimonious girl on the other end told me that 'the terms and conditions stated I had to pay for all visits on the day'. i explained again that I had tried to but had been told I didn't owe anything. She recited the terms and conditions again. She showed absolutely no concern for the fact that we had now been a month without a functioning toilet. In the end I had to pay the £72 I had been told I didn't owe before she would look into when the job might be completed. She came back and said the parts would be ordered that afternoon! They still hadn't even got round to ordering them!! After over 2 weeks!!! She told me she would ring me back that afternoon to tell me when the parts would come in and schedule a return visit. That was over three weeks ago and I have heard nothing. Obviously I have now contacted another firm to come and sort the whole mess out. I had no problem with the workman himself but the way the company is run, the organisation and the customer relations are beyond awful. They were only concerned with getting their money not with actually doing a good job. read more

I had Bill booked in earlier today. He was a half hour late, but called to let me know and it didn't affect the four hours I'd booked so that didn't matter to me at all. He was friendly, productive and got a lot of jobs completed for me. He hung a lot of mirrors, put together and installed a bathroom cabinet and he even repaired my fridge door, bathroom rail and my bedroom cabinets, went out to get a replacement lightbulb I had no chance to reach and replaced it. He took my cardboard boxes out to recycle and polished up the mirrors when it was all completed. He gave me some good advice for the other jobs I haven't decided on yet and wanted to know more about. He was meant to put my shelves up, but when we opened the boxes it turned out I'd ordered the wrong sort and he couldn't put them on a wall, so I have to order different ones. Despite this, he said he'd come back and do them a bit cheaper since I didn't use up all my four hours because of the mistake. Very kind man. It's a slightly pricey service, but I felt I had a quality experience. It was very pleasant getting this work sorted out at last and I will use this company again for sure. read more

If only I'd looked at these reviews, I would have known not to book this company. The charges are extortionate: needing a 5 minute job done urgently (moving a piece of heavy furniture upstairs) and not finding any other options, I booked The Handy Squad, agreeing over the phone to pay a callout charge plus the half-hourly rate for this job. (Already too expensive.) They sent two tradesmen, and so charged double without making it clear over phone or email that this would be the case. Ended up paying a lot of money for something trivial and not worth it, and over the phone they were unreasonable and refused to negotiate as the labour (all five minutes of it) had already been completed. The tradesmen also need training in how to deal politely and professionally with customers. Will never use this company again. Be aware also that they don't record their calls, and if anything goes wrong with a job you'll probably end up extremely annoyed and out-of-pocket. Overall this was a highly unpleasant and expensive experience. read more

Had a nightmare plumbing job from handy squad, I made a booking for some plumbing work at my place to replace sink taps, they took £200 in advance as deferred payment and told me that rest of it will be returned after the job, still waiting to get that back, however the horror began yesterday when they send an person for a job who could not fix either of things required but instead left with a leak under the sink while working on the tap. I noticed the leak after he left and called them immediately, told them my sink tap is still not working however there is now a leak under the sink which was not there before, at first they were trying to avoid me but after I warn them about the claim for damages from the leak they send back the same person, anyways he took his time but fixed the leak. I was not satisfied with the work at all nevertheless I am £200 out of pocket and still haven't had anything fixed. I will suggest to stay away from them as I will now chasing up for my balance back and invoice. read more

Graham @ 'The Handy Squad' bent over backwards when it came to him changing our locks. Our local shop could not supply the locks we needed, so Graham went out of his way to find a shop that did. He even went back to get extra keys cut for us. He was really friendly and made sure everything was to our liking. On the strength of Grahams work and personality and attitude, we have booked the services of 'The Handy Squad' again, this time to come and hang some blinds for us. He is a gem. I called in the Handy Squad a few weeks ago to do all the DIY I had been putting off. In 2 1/2 hours the chap who arrived hung up x5 pictures, a mirror, a huge vinyl print, installed 2x hand rails for the front and back stairs and fitted a light. Excellent service he came in the evening and stayed till the job was done. Every job was professionally done, level and centred. I would recommend to everyone. read more

This service is very overpriced probably OK if you need them in a pinch and have something really simple to do, but the price I ended up paying for an unfinished job was egregious. The price I was quoted for materials was (in spite of what was being told) about 50% higher than what I could have purchased items myself. I have used Handy Squad twice in the last month Ross did a very elegant job of a carved wooden radiator cover and Warren came in to paint the hall once the cover was installed. Great teamwork, punctual and well-mannered and the end result was exactly what I wanted. I felt the cost was extremely reasonable and I would certainly recommend these guys for these sorts of jobs. read more

Absolutely love these guys! professional, efficient, polite and on time. My guy called me when he was on route, completed my list quickly and quietly and was able to offer advice on a shelving unit I wanted building and installing. I use the Handy Squad quite a lot as both me and my husband are useless at DIY. Hanging pictures putting up baby gates, assembling impossible Ikea furniture they do it all quickly, efficiently and with a smile. I particularly recommend Spencer who is brilliant at improvising and extremely quick to finish anything put in front of him. read more

Handy Squad have done a great job at assembling furniture, putting up pictures, fixing broken shelves and other odd jobs. We have used them about 10 times and every time they have been very professional and have worked through the list of things very efficiently. I would definitely recommend them. read more

I was vey dissapointed their standard work and charge. For plumbing I was waiting 7days for an appointment and the job had not been done at all. But,t hey charged me full amount. Following day I called a different plumber. He fixed it at once. I never never use Handy Squad again!! read more

I called in the handy squad to fit 5 internal doors Just fixing hinges and handles to doors, old doors had been removed. I had been quoted £250 but VAT was added to this and only 3 doors were completed. One does not close properly. An expensive lesson. Will not use them again read more

It took Handy Squad's electrician 20 mins to fix a problem my builder had said would be complicated and expensive. Great service and honest, friendly tradesmen who don't over-charge. Will definitely use Handy Squad again! read more
