Phoned the salon, which I had been to several times before on a friday, made an appointment for the following morning to have my roots tinted and hair blowdryed. Mentioned on the phone that I use Revlon Young colour and would it be okay to bring my own colour. There was no objection made to this. I arrived the following morning, was greeted by the girl whom I had made the appointment with, she was very friendly and nice.
The owner came out, she was going to be doing my colour and blow dry. She stared at me, no smile, no greeting. I started by taking out my colour and she stared at me. She was not impressed that I had brought my own colour, I explained that I had spoken to somebody when booking the appointment and advised that I would bring my own colour, (this is not a financial reason, just simply that I have tried many many colours and this one lasts longest for me) she had a major issue with this and instead of explaining nicely to me she treated me with absolute disgust and told me that she would not use my colour and was very very rude to me. I explained to her that this was fine but that I had asked on the phone and maybe I should have been told this. She didnt apologise but got even more rude and retorted well I did not take the call and that was not explained to me! I felt it a bit childish of a business OWNER to react like this.
So I said fine just use whatever you have I just want my roots coloured, She then proceeded to stare at my hair which I had tied up in a hairband, and I am not exaggerating when I say she actually looked at me as if to say I am not touching that and said very rudely " so are you going to take this down for me to have a look at"? I did and again she started to stare at my hair and lift bits of it here and there and had this look on her face... so eventually she asks is it finding it difficult to hold the colour and I explained that it probably is at the moment due to the (extremely obvious 38th week) pregnancy. She then says Ooh you are expecting... again I cannot stress how obviously pregnant I am.
I replied that yes I am pregnant and she says so have you had a patch test done and I again explain that no I had not been asked to have a patch test done as I was supposed to be using my own colour. She then proceeded to tell me that I would need a patch test done., So eventually I asked is there a problem here and she replies that she would not be comfortable using her own colour on me and basically would not use mine either as "they just dont do that" and I had to leave the salon with no hair done.
I then had to go home at 38 weeks pregnant and put in my own colour- lean over the bath washing it out for half an hour (i have thick hair) and spend an hour under a blow dryer. To say that I was absolutely fuming is an understatement.
The woman named Joanne was so unbelievably rude to me that I was shocked! I was so humiliated and angry because it was their own mistake, they should not have taken the appointment if they didnt allow somebody to bring their own colour, and they should have mentioned that a patch test was necessary for a colour if it was not possible to use your own colour. She actually blamed me for the mistake, even though it was her staff who made the mistake. She treated me with utter contempt and I will never set foot in her salon again. I was the only customer in there, at 11:30 on a saturday morning... not surprising.
Again I want to stress, that I understand that some salons have concerns about colour especially in pregnancy but surely it is their job to clarify when taking the appointment the situation, especially when somebody states that they want to bring their own colour... for the record the colour I had with me was not permanent either as I didnt want to use the strong colour during pregnancy. read more
