Peak gym experience, culture and atmosphere. Feels more like a gym family compared to big cooperate gyms

Overall really great gym equipment! A bald employee did follow me into the restroom to see if I had a membership, which I thought was weird because you need a keycard to get in? He was also very passive aggressive about it, and I kept it respectful the entire time even though I thought following me into the bathroom and waiting til I was finished with my business was really weird. read more

I really appreciated the environment of this gym up until today /: My partner paid for a membership, but specifically asked if he was able to bring an additional person before signing up. However, there was no mention of a day pass up until my 4th time showing up (today). The employee threw off my partner and I's session, following my partner into the bathroom to ask if he had a membership, which left us confused and quite frustrated since you need to swipe your card to enter... Super disappointing considering this is overall a great gym, just wished there was more communication regarding the membership. read more

Great gym!! Everyone is there to work out and not sit around bs on their phones hogging the machines and messing up your workout. You can tell by the members physical appearance that this place is to work out and get it in. read more

My favorite gym! The owner (cj) is incredibly welcoming and is always working hard. This gym is perfect for me because it's not insanely busy during the times I go , it's quiet, no weird contracts, and even though its smaller than a Cal Fit or Club Studio, it has enough machines to work every body part needed. As a girl, I don't feel weird at all working out here at all. Everyone I've met has been so kind. I almost don't want to make the review just so I can gatekeep my favorite spot but I truly can't say enough kind words on how happy I am for joining. Thank you Cj for being so awesome! :) read more

Started this gym training with one of the trainers , now doing my own work out and every time i walk though the door im always greeted with a smile and a friendly hello. This gym is the best. Never too busy and always very clean. read more

This is the only gym in the Sacramento area that's rated 4.7 or higher on Yelp , so I had to check it out . The location is super convenient. The staff and people are friendly and it's clean . I would strongly recommend. read more

The Gym - so many instructions just to flush, like just fix the toilet - Gyms Near Me - Sacramento, California

This is the best Gym I have ever joined Its Privately owned Place is always spotless The owner CJ is there almost all the time everyday ,he's helpful and friendly and always makes sure the gym is clean and machine is wiped down .CJ is constantly walking around and making sure the place is clean . Its a month to month contract witch is amazing . Sadly I had to leave because it's far from me and needed something closer but I 10/10 recommend this gym to anyone willing to drive or just looking for a new gym to join . read more

Really enjoy the place. Local, easy to get to and no BS. People are there to work out and improve themselves.

I truly believe that this is a special place to be! Today I had the most awesome workout at The Gym as I love to do functional workouts, free weights and machines. I have everything right there at my fingertips which helps my workouts get done quickly. I really love being around people who truly care about working out as I have been in gyms since I was 19 and now I am in my mid 50s. It is difficult to find a gym atmosphere that has everything you want, great membership price and really cool people from the members to the people that work there. I even love that this gym is 24 hours so I can leave my house at 4AM and know that there are people there working out or 5PM and there still being room to get in and grab a great workout. I pretty much have been in gyms my entire life and I haven't come across a place that has everything that I want and need plus the atmosphere. CJ the owner, has every machine in working order and as items get worn out, he is consistently swapping them out. There has been quite a bit of expansion that just recently happened too with more machines, I never get bored with my workouts and always creatively changing them up from doing agility workouts with cones, fit ball, rope, boxing bags, and then the free weights and machines. What I have found to be fun too is that there are tanning beds. My hubby and I started our tan this year with a few times in the tanning bed, that totally brings me back to the 80s/90s when tanning beds were massively big and everywhere. A funny story, Jeff and I, my hubby have been at the gym now for about a year... but 20ish years ago we were working out at CJs place, The Gym all the way up to us having our first child Jacob. I was working out then up til the last workout which was the day that I went into the hospital to have our first baby, Jacob. AND yes, he was full term. We didn't come back until 20 years later since we built an incredible home gym. Now that both of our kids are so independent we decided to venture out back to The Gym and use our home gym when we decide to have a quick workout and then gather dinner together with the family together. Appreciate you CJ ad the crew you have brought around you with the fabulous customer. Jeff and I call these nights that we workout at The Gym our date nights as we get to giggle just as much as we did 20+ years ago PLUS be in a place that really supports our lifestyle, working out and staying young. :-) read more

I can't recommend this gym enough. The place is always clean and has everything you need to train, CJ is a really nice guy who is constantly cleaning and getting things done. Only been there for a month but totally worth it and will be extending my membership indefinitely. read more

After spending several year playing in the NFL, I've belonged/joined many gyms over the years. My experience at THE GYM was the absolute worst new membership experience ever. I recently had a total hip replacement and needed a place to continue my rehab. After going to therapy at Results PT next door and waiting in my car for 45 mins( as membership inquiries don't start until 12:00). I walked in and asked for a tour of the facility. I then asked you use the restroom before we started, again after waiting in my vehicle almost an hour. I was told only if you sign up. I asked if he was kidding.....He said no you can't use the restroom unless your a member. You'll have to go to Jack n the Box on the corner. I said no I won't I'll just got back to the PT clinic. I then asked a 2nd time if he was kidding and if it was worth losing a paying membership over his attitude. He said he didn't care. At the time of this writing the yearly dues are approx $600. You have a choice where you spend your money. There are plenty of iron piles in Sacramento. I won't spend mine here and I don't suggest you don't either. read more

Fantastic place! I'm only disappointed in the fact that I wasted so many years going to 24 hour with my family when so could've been doing my own thing here and seeing results I wanted. I felt so much pressure by others at other gyms to be or look a certain way but The Gym is so much different! There is such a great feeling of respect for one another since the small amount of people here are looking for the same goal while not being so lax like other gyms and having pizza night... I had to move to NY recently and selfishly saved this review for my Exodus since I didn't want it to start filling up too much. The owner runs a clean and tight ship here. Definitely go, you won't regret it. read more

I have been a member of The Gym for almost 10 years. This is your basic weight lifting and aerobic type gym. There aren't any classes offered or a pool, racquetball courts, sauna, etc. It's a bare-bones type of gym. Which is why there's no waiting around for machines or over-crowded times. You're also recognized when you walk in and greeted by the owner/operator, CJ. As a woman, I don't feel intimidated working out by myself. The guys are friendly but not hitting on me. Because I don't have to wait around for a machine, I usually get my workouts done in an hour which consists of whole body, weight lifting routine plus abs. There are a lot of trainers that work at this gym and if you want to sign up with one, it wouldn't be hard to find one on any given day/time. Bonus thing about this gym is you have 24 hr access. read more

This is a no nonsense gym that has everything to get the job done, without the fluff. Everyone is friendly and it's easy to get to know one another in a supportive environment with fitness goals on mind. The owners are almost always on site. Their is cleaner and towels readily available to wipe down machines. I personally work out with a trainer that sub contracts to use the facility. Their are other trainers available also. The Gym doesn't offer classes, but I don't go there for those types of workouts. Their are treadmills, bikes and elypticals for cardio options. read more

Best gym I've ever been to. All fitness levels welcomed, kind and passionate environment, that still leaves space for high level powerlifters and body builders. Never seen an environment like it. I believe it has to do with the care and passion of the owners and trainers who are normally there. Been going here for six months and have absolutely nothing bad to say except if I ever have to move out the area I will never be able to find a gym that comes close to what I've experienced here. read more

Great gym, been going there for a few months now. It has expanded a little bit so there is a lot a space. Even with the parking lot full the gym doesn't feel crowded. The owner is around a lot so most broken equipment gets dealt with quickly. Love that it is 24 hour access as well. read more

I've been coming here for about 7 months now and I have got to say....wow. The owners are always present, constantly maintaining equipment, cleaning, and willing to improve wherever they can. If you want a clean and organized gym...there is no where else to go. This gym, especially coach Marco has become the highlight of my day, everyday. I have recommended this gym to many of my friends and family who have also become a part of "the gyms" community. Better yet, this has become a second home for me. read more

Best gym in Sacramento hands down! Privately owned gym that's open 24/7 and is always spotless. Equipment is perfect for anyone from professional bodybuilders to beginners. read more

This is a great gym if you aren't looking for any of the extras like a swimming pool or basketball court and want to stay in a reasonable budget for your gym membership. They have all kinds of weights and weight machines, power lifting stations, as well as a hardwood area with heavy bags. The cardio machines are always available when I've gone there too, and I don't think I've ever seen it to be over-crowded to the point where I couldn't do my workout, even at around 5pm, which we all know is the worst time you could possibly go to the gym. But this gym is great! They also have tanning beds. read more

This review has been a long time coming after working out here for almost a year. This is a certified iron temple of Brodin. Has to be the best gym in the area. Open 24/7 with keycard access, and everything you need to get in great shape, whether you are a bodybuilder, power lifter or something in between. Granted I usually work out in the afternoon but I've almost never had to wait because of the seven squat racks and two dedicated deadlifting platforms. Lots of personal trainers here to choose from who seem very serious about their craft, and lots of guys and gals moving some serious weight. The owners here clearly have some OCD tendencies. The workout spaces and bathrooms alike are always vacuumed and cleaned and I have never seen a dumbbell misplaced which is the ultimate pet peeve I have with most other gyms. read more

This gym is Awesome. I really regret going any other place besides "The Gym". It has everything you need, Cardio Machines, Free Weights, Weight Machines and even tanning for an extra monthly fee. The price is great, including no sign up or cancellation fees. Its also 24 hours so you can go in and out on your own time with your Key card thingy. Also its conveniently located off the freeway. Its very clean and organized. CJ is a mad man running around organizing plates, equipment, cleaning the locker rooms and vacuuming. If a Cardio machine has a problem or any of the Tv's it will be fixed asap. Which I appreciate. If your Hardcore about your training, don't like anyone bothering you while your "In the Zone" this is the gym to join... read more

I always struggle to find a good gym when I travel as hotel gyms have 15# dumbbells and treadmills with treads in such need of repair that you could injure yourself if you try to do anything more than walk. This place fit the bill. They had tons of equipment as well as a power room for those of us that like to lift heavy weights. The equipment was well maintained and diverse (meaning it wasn't all from one manufacturer). The Gym had four (count 'em, four!) T-bar row machines. Granted, that's a bit of overkill but I appreciate overkill. Everybody there seemed to be serious about what they were there for. I even saw a young skinny girl that I mistook for a cardio bunny until she got under the bench press. Apparently she is a powerlifter that regularly competes (it is refreshing to see someone who isn't scared of "bulking up") and she was lifting her bodyweight. The Gym is open 24 hours and you can use a swipe card to gain entrance. The only downside of this place is that it's only manned from noon-6 pm, so if you need a membership that's when you have to do it. I was fortunate to make that timeframe, but would have liked to know that prior. BTW, a day pass was $10 or a week pass was $20, so very affordable for travelers. I also wanted to buy a sweatshirt, but they only had 3 in stock and none were my size. If they offer those for sale, they should increase the inventory. I mean, who wouldn't want a shirt that says "THE GYM"? read more

Start-up is easy and simple here. No contracts, sales staff, or having to choose between 10 different packages just to get going. Signing up is an easy and uncomplicated process. Upon getting started you will notice right away that the place is very well kept. Everything is always up and running, and is kept meticulously clean. The bathrooms here are cleaner than most gym floors. All the equipment 99% of people would ever need(want) organized in a very comprehensive manner. Finally CJ(the owner) is often on there, and is easy to find if you need him. You don't have to deal with employees which is great. The atmosphere is one that is empathetic to anyone regardless of your goals. Doesn't matter if you are a weekend warrior, trying to lose a few pounds, or you are an 800lb bench presser; you are going to find a home at the gym. read more

Trainers here can be aggressive, they say at any gym there is steroid abuse, this gym takes it to another level. The owner is kind but ran by his fake trainers. The dieting plans aren't healthy, or backed by a certified nutritionists. To add, a lot of the gym members are cultish and mistreat those who have a slightly opposing opinion or suggestion. 39$ for the gym, you get what u pay for, and I'd rather pay more for solitude and peace of mind. Lastly, many cars have been broken into, the security system in place is not in the gym goer's favor. Out side of that, the equipment is great, and there are rules. Do the gym members adhere to them, most do, but many act entitled. Please watch out for the nutrition part, you can end up in a hospital, watch what trainer you choose, and please don't ever choose Pika. He is very insecure and controlling. You deserve a better trainer. All these trainers usually stick up for each other and it's not worth it to make a suggestion. They will watch someone be mistreated and not step in. Bullies, so pick another spot with an actual code of conduct that is enforced, by both, the gym member and the gym trainers, also the gym owner. Horrible experience!!!! Choose elsewhere. Steroids are normal there, and that's why individuals have rood rage there. Be careful. read more

The Gym is the best! The owners CJ and Chris are so welcoming and helpful, and they've done a great job in keeping the gym clean and doing everything they can to prevent anyone from getting sick since gyms have opened back up after the shutdown. My review of THE GYM is long overdue. I've been a member of this gym for the past nine months or so. I initially joined this gym because this is where my trainer does his business. Its a privately owned gym, the owner is CJ. He is such a cool guy, genuinely caring and he seems to know just about every members name which is awesome. This gym has everything that you need, cardio machines you never have to wait for and lots of weight machines and free weights as well. I appreciate that everything is always clean and well maintained. The gym can be accessed 24-7 and they have camera surveillance everywhere, so you always feel safe. Ive meet some very nice people here at the gym. The members here are serious about being fit and healthy. Seeing the gym team engaged in their workouts will most definitely motivate you to push yourself to succeed at your goal. This is a great establishment here in Sacramento. read more

If you are serious about getting into shape and want a gym where workout machines are always available and has a family type vibe to it, this is the place for you. Also at a pretty cheap monthly rate, this gym outshines many others in terms of value. Also has a good amount of trainers there that will help you out if you have any casual questions about working out, even if you are not clients of theirs. Everyone that works out here is pretty friendly, including the owner CJ who is there almost everyday cleaning, inspecting machines, and answering questions. He really cares about making his members happy. It's a pretty good sized Gym with all of the machines and dumbbells you can think of. This is a great 24 hour, key card gym where you can be alone usually after 10pm - 6am on the weekday and usually dead throughout the weekends except maybe 9am - 2pm. Good gym, with old and new equipment, they have a Power room which I love because of deadlifts and things like that. Only Con. And this is major for serious gym goers. The Personal Training there is annoying. These PT will get in the way of your workouts, take your machine without asking, set up right next to you when there are multiple other areas. I got into an argument with one of the PT there because they took the hamstring curl machine that I've already done 2 sets on WITHOUT asking so that pissed me off. Honestly, was ready to snap his neck off. Dudes, don't know how to be courteous and get out of the dumbbell rack way either!. Don't stand right in front of it if you see other people are trying to get their work in. Really annoying and irritating! Could get really bad if it was one of my bad days. I don't want to use the gym when it's busy because of idiots like these but my only real time I can get in without rushing myself is the morning between 9am - 12pm before work and school so I'm stuck with these idiots for now. Other than the annoying, crappy Personal Trainers there. The owners CJ and Chris are cool, collective, wholesome dudes. Only reason why I stay is because it's a 24 hour keycard gym. Very convenient. read more
