Most of the other gyms in town offer 24 hour access options so the contrast to these limited hours is drastic. Mon-Thurs they are open 5:30am - 9:00pm which is reasonable. Friday hours are 5:30 am - 8:00 pm, which is probably fine for most people as I am a weirdo who enjoys a Friday night workout which is out of the norm. On Sat the gym is only open from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm, then Sun from 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm. These weekend hours make it very unlikely I would ever get a workout in on the weekend so it was not worth the membership fees for me.

A heads up from the get-go, this is not a rope-based climbing gym. They're in a warehouse without…read morehigh ceilings so top rope and course setting including clip-in points is not a thing here. There is another place in Boone for that, though admittedly their hours are much shorter. I was happy to find this place open on a Saturday evening until 10pm. There's plenty of wall space if there are just a few climbers here but I bet it can easily get crowded. There is lots of other equipment for cross training, but most of it is quite dated. Like something your dad or uncle had in their garage in their teens and 20s. A rusted fan-bike and nylon wrapped, thin foam padded bench. There's a cool "moon board" on the opposite side of the gym at a 40 degree angle. I personally have a hard enough time climbing vertical walls though. There are some rings and balls suspended from the ceiling for you to impress your friends or yourself with some gymnastics level moves. And of course lots of fingerboard options. Normally a Saturday would be packed I bet but I came in during an event elsewhere in town that was specifically popular with the climbing types. So I basically had the gym to myself. At a price of $14 (I brought my own shoes and chalk, not sure if they rent them) it was in line with the gym back home in Charlotte. There's a waiver process that will take you a few minutes to complete. The bathrooms are large and there's a relatively limited amount of cubby space to put your stuff. The hand holds felt tight and I didn't find a single spinner. I was able to clear all of their V0s, most of their V1s and one of their V2s. As you can see I'm barely a bouldering beginner but I will say these seemed to fall in line with my expectation for difficulty. Lastly, the music choice for the evening I was there was not kid friendly and not really to my liking. I imagine it would be different on crowded days or if children were here. All considered though, I would definitely come back.

Each instructor has their own style and approach to Pilates that makes being a client fun and exciting. From restorative, release classes to fast moving high intensity classes they offer a bit of everything. Interspersed with their wide array of group classes, I'm able to book private sessions where the instructors base the entire hour around my body and needs. Nicole, the studio founder, has an unparalleled knowledge base. Her expert eye noticed and directed me to understand my hypermobility. I never leave a workout with her feeling discouraged. This has truly changed my life and approach to fitness. Dr Erin Jarrett has changed the way my body moves and rests by noticing patterns, weakness, compensation, tightness, and releasing areas that need it. I have worked with so many PTs. None even remotely rival Erin's ability or intelligence about physicality and how to work with someone's body where they are. Jennah's incredible repertoire of anatomical knowledge and cues speak to my need to visualize exactly what I am doing and why. Brooke's dance background and understanding of movement help me achieve goals in a way I didn't know that I could. Parker pairs her incredible knowledge, care, and motivation in the most balanced way to provide a nurturing and challenging workout. Jacqueline's knowledge of hypermobility and dysautonomia both shock and awe in how they combine to deliver a workout that supports the compensations my body makes. Miranda always looks for a way to make movement accessible and creative. I enjoy her use of props and willingness to try new things. Amanda's classical approach allows me to measure my progress with each class in a fun and charismatic environment. I cannot say enough about how Beyond Pilates has changed my outlook about fitness, wellness, and my ability to push myself in the most positive way within both.

So, if I was to continue walking straight and feeling good about myself, I had to commit to something, but what? Luckily I worked with a woman a few years older than I who suggested I meet with Nicole of Beyond Pilates of Boone. I did, I committed and I'm stronger now than I was in my 20's and my back pain is gone. I gained strength, stability, flexibility, balance, and stamina and I continue to improve and learn. Nicole and Parker are educated in human anatomy and weave that knowledge into the training so that I now have a better understanding of my body and my issues. Each session you are asked what issues you're dealing with so your duet or private session is tailored to your needs. The equipment is always set according to your size and ability, and Nicole and Parker are always, always watching to make those slight adjustments in your position so you are performing the routine correctly (i.e. you don't hurt yourself!) I love every session and feel I am aging more gracefully. And it doesn't hurt that I look better too! It doesn't matter your age, your shape, your gender. All will be welcomed and will benefit from the tailored instruction and the kindness and warmth generated by the folks of Beyond Pilates of Boone.

While reading previous reviews, I found one where the author found fault with the business because the owner wasn't especially excited about giving out yet another freebie to a solicitor. Having owned and operated a business for 18 years, I can tell you the amount of people who just walked into my small business asking for free stuff to auction or give away was overwhelming. None of them understood how difficult it is to make ends meet, they just assumed it was easy. Most had no prior appointment, they just showed up and lots of times I was too busy but had to put down my work to attend to them. I was always generous. But for my business to survive, I needed to protect it. It's like you start off with a fluff of cotton but little by little tufts get pulled off until after so many years go by, there is a dwindled down fluff- don't be mindful and soon nothing will be left. Now, in my opinion, being a yogini and being a business woman is not at odds with each other. In fact, having a business that is providing such a useful service to the community calls for even more protective measures. It is part of being able to continue to bring spiritual guidance and physical health to Boone. That is a big responsibility! If the owner didn't handle the request skillfully, perhaps she was tired and overwhelmed. Teachers are human too. They can have bad days and maybe on that day the solicitor was the one straw too many. That the previous reviewer states they'll never go back because they were dismissed and chose to do harm by leaving a bad review tells me they weren't there for the yoga. They were there to feel good about themselves being a do- gooder. Maybe check up on yourself.
