The Grove is right on campus and is walking distance to EVERYTHING you need. You can also get an off campus meal plan and just walk to the caf for a quick bite. They always have incentives to bring the community together like bingo, trivia, and door decorations. You can even win prizes. Great apartments for the price, perfect for college living. I've had a few bumps here and there, but nothing management and maintenance didn't fix in a timely manner. Anywhere you go will have its quirks, but I can say I've thoroughly enjoyed my 2 years spent at the Grove, and its location, rooms, and amenities is perfect for a college student. It's a little old and rough around the edges, but management seems to be actively working towards upgrades the best they can. read more

I've always had a pretty decent experience living at The Grove, but the new management made the living experience even better. They're always very nice and helpful whenever I have concerns. I would recommend these apartments to any college student looking for lower rent (compared to other apartment complexes close to campus) and the freedom of living off campus. read more

Spacious yes, upscale no. This place was one of the dirtiest places I've ever lived. Not to mention they will charge you thousands of dollars when you move out claiming the (dirty carpets, walls, etc. to be caused by you). $1,600 later I learned my lesson to never ever rent from a place this unorganized/unethical. DO NOT LIVE HERE!!!! Take your hard earned money anywhere else but here. First off the model they showed you when you toured the apartment is really nice and clean and the furniture looks great but when you get assigned your room I guarantee you will be disappointed. My desk fell apart on move in day, all my living room furniture and floor had big burn marks because of the guys who lived here before me smoked, and my bathroom door fell off within a couple of months of living here!!! I could also tell my apartment had not been cleaned before i moved in and was not well inspected because I found dirty magazines underneath my bath room sink! There's definitely a pest problem still, they haven't been able to get it under control. Next, management is horrible!! The people they have working in their office and answering phones are kids who go to the school and they are so rude and annoying to talk to! I've had so much trouble with my apartment door key, because it would not open or close my door, had to have about three people try to figure out how to fix it! When you complain to them about stuff they just give you excuses and don't try to fix your problems and they give you attitude. I got a lot of surprise visits from management too! This is what has made me the most mad! Maintenance would be sent to your room to do stuff and they give you NO notice! They just show up at anytime. If you don't answer the door they come into your apartment anyways! I am a small girl I'm 5'3 about 120 pounds and just randomly these big maintenance guys show up with out warning to do stuff in your apartment. several times I have been just sitting in my bed and hear a knock and before I have even opened my bedroom door maintenance guys have come half way into my apartment. THEY DON'T EVEN WAIT FOR YOU TO COME TO THE DOOR!!!! Next The Grove sent 3 hispanics to come paint my bedroom on a Saturday morning around 10 am. Once again they didn't wait for me to come to the door! The Grove gave apartment keys to 3 hispanics on a saturday morning! Lucky for me I wasn't asleep or in my underwear!!!!!! When you go to complain about it they tell you they don't have time to call everyone and give warnings. This happened to me this summer and they told me that they just come in because they assume you might not be in there!!! because it's summer and a lot of people move out during summer! THAT'S NOT AN EXCUSE! If i'm still paying for my apartment I should be still be treated like I am living there! Just give people a 24 hr notice!!!! It's not that hard!! read more

Living at The Grove in Mobile was the absolute worst mistake of my life. From the management, to the rooms, to being way over priced, the whole experience here has been one of the worst I have ever dealt with. First problem is with the management. They are all so welcoming until you sign the lease and then it's over. I have a to call multiple times about things being torn up in our apartment and they would never answer, and this is during the office hours. And when they did answer, it would take them days to get something done about the problems we are having. We had to call once about our door being broken and when we did, we were told that it was not sever enough to have someone out that day. So they wanted us to sleep with our front door opened, because it was unable to lock, because they did not want to take the time to come fix it. Also, when we receive packages, it goes to the front office. They would take three or four days to even tell us about the package and if we went when it showed that it had been delivered to the front office, they would lie telling us that there was no package.. Second problems is with maintenance, if they even know what that is.. To get problems that we were having fixed, we would have to call multiple times to get them to even think about coming in to fix it. There is always trash EVERYWHERE, and the dumpster where we are supposed to take our trash is always full and never emptied. The stair ways in my building are covered in vomit, that has been there since the beginning of the year, and there is trash everywhere. We had a problem with our refrigerator and when they came to fix it, two weeks later, they told us that it was because the amount of food we had in it. Is that even possible? There was hardly any food in there, might I add. They also say that it is a gated complex, and even charge you for it in your rent. But they gate worked for about two months of the whole year I have lived here.. And when it was broken, I would find myself sitting outside of it, hoping it would work after work late at night. The rooms are not as great as the model room made it seem as well. The appliances have not been cleaned, maintenanced, nor changes since they have opened this place. Each roommate pays $500 a month, and living in a three bedroom, that is $1500 a month for appliances that do not work half the time, furniture that is disgusting and does not match, and a apartment that is not worth that AT ALL. You also get free wifi... No they charge in your rent for that wifi and I has messed me up so many time on my online classes because it NEVER work, just like everything else here. Since I have lived here, over a year now because the leases run from May until July, there have been more robberies than I can count and one stabbing and one shooting. So if you do choose to live here, please be careful. But I would not recommend this place to even someone I disliked.. There is absolutely no communication what so ever about things that matter, such as the robberies, or the gates being broken, or the pool being under maintenance. But they sure can all you three times a day reminding you and asking if you are signing a lease with them again. WORST PLACE EVER! read more

I moved to Mobile from Seattle to attend University of South Alabama. I signed a lease with The Grove at Mobile because I thought it would be better than living in the dorms on campus. It was close to the school and (supposedly) only allowed South Alabama students to live there. It seemed perfect but then I moved in. My first day there, I woke up 2 am to find 6 silverfish crawling in my bathroom and bedroom. Despite keeping the apartment in the cleanest condition possible, I continued to have problems with silverfish as well as roaches, spiders and gnats. They've been on the walls, ceilings and floors of my bedroom, bathroom, closet, kitchen and living room. They've been on clean dishes and in my bed. Yes! IN my bed...twice! They fell from the ceiling and landed in my bed while I was sleeping. Pest control was sent approximately 5 times within 3 months. I barely got cooperation from management. I contacted their corporate office, Campus Crest, about the issue. They told me someone from management would follow up with me the same day about moving me to another unit. Well a month went by and I never heard from them. I also had problems with the central heat in the winter. This along with the gap in the front door kept the unit cold. Also The Grove's website says they cover up to $30 of utilities per room and that you shouldn't have overages because the apartments are fairly new. Well, when you get there, the front office employees inform you that you will indeed have overages every month and it's your responsibility to come in every month and see how much you owe. They have a horrible reputation on campus. I would highly discourage anyone from moving to The Grove Mobile. There are better student apartments that are near the school campus if you're looking for an alternative to staying in the dorms. read more

DO NOT LIVE HERE. It's literally terrible. The management is very poor and extremely rude. It takes them ten years to fix a problem, and even then they half ass. The employees are okay. Ms. Mya That works in the front was lovely. She actually tries to take care of problems. The management puts everything on their employees to handle while they are too busy walking into your apartment unannounced looking for God knows what. They even took a picture of my roommate's window claiming that she had an animal in her room. It's just weird and unprofessional. It's from my understanding that they are under new management and it definitely shows. These people are the most money hungry people ever. Please please don't live here. You will be very disappointed. They must have paid these people to make good reviews bc they definitely suck !!! read more

This is by far the worst apartments I've lived in. The staff is nice and very helpful but the environment is horrible. I moved from Atlanta to seek a higher education and be housed around people wanting the same but it just seems they want to be higher. The floors are thin so you can easily keep track of your upstairs neighbors especially if they are heavy footed athletes. They will honestly let anyone live here. And its everyone's first time living away from home and trust me, they act like it. I don't feel safe reporting issues or people being loud and obnoxious. I've had my car hit twice in the parking lot with no notes or any one saying anything. I saw a car knock over a motorcycle and just drive off. If you want to party and get away with basically anything THIS IS THE PLACE. But if you want to study in peace and quiet, look elsewhere. read more

Worst place ever for a college student to live! I moved here in 2012 and loved living here up until last year. New management came in & eliminated all of the fun activities in the clubhouse and turned the complex into a prison. The gate is faulty, but when it is working an email is always sent out to tell the residents. The current policy entails that residents use a white gate key (similar looking to a credit card) and that all guests must call whoever they're visiting from the call box to get in. That sounds reasonable right? Well it would be perfect if that was the case... Only residents are let in at night. Police and the property manager sit at the gate on random nights at varying hours turning around any guests that want to come in. I feel like I'm in boarding school. It's terrible. The staff also messes up rent payments more often than not. Even though my lease was signed at a rate of $495, somebody made a large error in forcing me to pay $530 for my monthly rent. The mistake was caught after 2 months and even then there was no apology from the manager. I've been having to take all issues straight to the corporate office because the management could care less about resolving issues.I cannot wait for my lease to end in July so that I can live ANYWHERE but here. read more

The Grove is not a nice place to live. The only reason this place is still renting is because of the convenient location but it's not worth it especially since there's another apartment complex right across the road. I lived at the Grove and stayed in two apartments. In the first one I had a terrible roommate. She had pets (which are not allowed in the grove) that would sneak into my room and pee an poo everywhere. I went to management and told them about it and begged them to find me a new room and it took them 2 weeks (with me pestering them everyday so they wouldn't forget about me). They refused to give me any names or phone numbers of potential roommates (I was hoping to meet the new roommate to make sure we would get along living together) but I was then contacted by a girl saying the Grove had given her my Facebook even though they had refused to do this for me. Thankfully this girl turned out to be great and I was able to move in with her. While living in this second apartment we had to contact the Grove many times with maintenance issues which they took FOREVER to come repair (even minor things like changing a bulb in the fridge). My new roommate also told me she had to contact them many times before I had even moved in with her because the furniture that was there when she moved in was disgusting (holes, stains etc...). We ended up with a bunch of extra furniture in our two bedroom apartment because maintenance came and dumped new furniture but never picked up the old stuff. My other issue with the Grove is how untrustworthy they are and how completely incompetent their management is. One month I went to pay rent and was told (by a manager at the time) that I couldn't because I didn't owe anything. I hadn't payed my rent yet and asked her to double check and she insisted that i didn't owe them anything. I asked if I could just go ahead and pay it just in case and she said no, she was pushy so i assumed that i must have forgotten about a payment i had made and left. A few months later I get a call from the Grove telling me there had been a mistake and that I owed them a month's rent (550$). I was furious because the mistake was entirely on their end and they wanted me to come up with the money immediately which i wouldn't have been able to do. After days of speaking to one manager after another they told me i could make monthly payments to pay off that month that hadn't been paid. The whole process was a nightmare and none of the Grove staff was helpful at all. Another thing about the Grove is how overpriced it is. for a two bedroom each roommate has to pay about 500$ EACH. If you take that 1000$ total to another apartment complex you can get a beautiful place without all the issues you would have at the Grove. I would definitely not recommend the Grove. I would advise you to stay as far as possible from that place. Sorry for the rant, thanks for reading! read more

This apartment complex has bugs(roaches) and the management is not the least bit concerned. What I can't understand is why the apartment was not sprayed prior to everyone moving into the complex for school last week. We have been lied to and told the apartment was sprayed when it was not... we have been told lots of things- none of which is happening. Next step is city inspectors. read more

I lived at the Grove for a year and upon moving out i've been charged with damage to the room. I wanted to find out what these charges were about and even contacted corporate office. I'm sure I wrote down the damage before I moved into the grove. I've emailed the GM twice and he only responded back with a list of charges that I'm already aware about. The letter also mentions that the payment is due or else they will let the collection agency take over. In conclusion, I lived in a crappy apartment with stains all over the wall and towards the end, I HAD TO PAY FOR IT. I know I wrote it on the check-in sheet but they will not show it to me. I haven't heard from the GM since (it's been 3 days). I sent an email last night (still no response). Now I will have to pay for it. Also when I contacted the corporate office, it took 8 calls to finally reach the person (he or she was either away or too busy to pick up). Although I called between 12-5pm. I left two voicemails to call back. I had to call again the next day and was lucky enough for someone to pick up. I love the student staff but the bigger people just don't care. read more
