During COVID, they raised their rate, after COVID they raised their rate again, when the new owner took over they raised the rate and then they raised their rate again. Plus, they push the receipt for tips and watch you fill it in. Also, appointments with the new owner are 2-3 weeks out. The service is good, but not great, traffic at the Barrington location is bad. Time to look for a new groomer. read more

I have had dogs my whole life, always in pairs and love and care for them all dearly. Such good memories over the years I have had with our four legged family members. I'm now 50 and used to take my 2 standard poodles to this groomer. The stylists do a good job, but the owner (Patrick) let's just say his first priority is not to the dogs. When I took our dogs to him for their first grooming he said some time would be needed for this specific breed and the fee would be $80 per dog. I took our dogs there every 6-8 weeks. On our 6th visit he said I have to charge you more $110 per dog as we need more time. That's $220 bucks plus tips for 2 dogs! I thought wow, that's a big increase, but I'm not a groomer and I thought their stylists do a good job. After 2-3 more visits I came to pick them up and he said we can no longer groom your dogs. Patrick says It just takes us to long and my employees are not happy as they don't make any tips when we groom your dogs! Personally I am disgusted with Patrick as a business owner and how greedy he is. Maybe you should pay your employees more or at $110 per dog give them a portion of the proceeds at least. When I say this owner is greedy it seems to me that the majority of the dogs they prefer are smaller breeds where they can get you in and out quickly to make a lot of tips and the owner charges you top dollar. Anyhow, this experience has been on my mind for awhile and I really wanted others to know what I went through. I cannot tell you how taken back I was! I've always been happy with the results of my doggies after their grooming. When you schedule your appointment, you have a choice between the actual lodge or to have a student from the school groom your pet. I've taken my dogs about 4 times now and I will say that I was more impressed with the work done by the school than the actual lodge. I have a Bichon and a Maltese and the students definetly made them look more cute. Everyone there has always been very sweet to my dogs when I arrive. They take them right away and ask me how I want them groomed. So personally I have no complaints and already have another appointment scheduled. read more

I am extremely unhappy with the service my dog received. We dropped her off @ 9:30am, and my husband had to call around 1pm because he hadn't heard anything. They said to come in 20-30 min, and when he got there they had just started. Completely sped thru shaving her, and left her body uneven and legs were not touched. Nails were not clipped either. Plus ever since we got back my dog has been dragging her butt on the floor. Finally had to take her to the vet so they could express her anal glands which tells me this groomer did not do that either. $70 (including tip) a lot of money to pay for a sub-par grooming service. We recently moved into the Barrington area, and have loved to have found the Grooming Lodge for our 2 dogs. They have a school of grooming there, and the cuts are significantly less expensive, so we figured we'd try it out and see how it went. We've taken them there probably 5 or 6 times now, and have seen no difference in the look of the cuts from the students. One of our dogs is a little high maintenance and they always treat her with special care and regard. The front desk staff is super friendly, and they really seem to love animals. The cut was what I asked for. That is the only positive. When my partner called to inquire about an appt months ago, the man who answered the phone was rude and short with him. (Apparently customers are an inconvenience.) We decided to go somewhere else instead. But against our better judgement we thought for the spring we would give them another shot, and the woman I spoke with on the phone this time was lovely and pleasant. So we set up an appointment. When I came in to drop my dog off I spoke with Patrick. He asked what cut I wanted, contact info, etc. and then came around to see my little dog. I told him as he rounded the corner that she was fearful of strangers and that she would be fine as soon as he took her back, but that I didn't want him attempting to handle her right now. He ignored this and said he "needed to check her" and grabbed my leash. I asked what he needed to check and he didn't have an answer. I continually told him that she was being trained for fearful reactivity and I didn't want it to escalate to aggression but he ignored this and shoved his hand in her face while forcibly petting her. Despite me telling him multiple times not to do this he continued to pull her closer to him and attempt to force an interaction with my terrified dog. When he finally stopped and walked her to the back I was so livid that I almost took her and left, but the damage had already been done and she badly needed a haircut. Honestly I should have demanded her back then and there simply for the principle of the matter. What he did set us back WEEKS if not MONTHS in training. I know this because I'm literally a professional dog trainer and this idiot clearly has no idea how to read dogs. He is completely uneducated in dog body language, which seems like a pretty basic requirement of anyone working in the dog field. My terrier was giving off every stress signal imaginable that even the most unskilled should know, and he was either completely clueless or just didn't care. Whale eye, lip licks, tensing, tucked tail, cowering... and he continued to shove his hand in her face and pull her closer. Even if I wasn't a pet professional, if I was just some random client, I'm still his PAYING CUSTOMER and he completely IGNORED every word that came out of my mouth. Despite my multiple protests this man did what he wanted, because obviously he knew better. What it was that he had to "check" by forcing my fear-reactive dog to come closer to him I have no idea because THAT'S NOT HOW YOU ASSESS BEHAVIOR. Please do the very basic amount of research and education in a field before you open your own business. If you need help educating yourself then a simple google search should suffice. read more

I had my dog into the lodge last Saturday. The customer service was non-existent and when we picked our Lhasa apso up the person wasn't friendly at all. We were first time customers and he really could of at least tried to appear happy or that he liked our dog. Our dog was not groomed well. Her nails were NOT clipped nor was it offered. Patrick is the best, he cares so much for animals, he takes his time to understand what they need done for best looking coat. He always has great recommendations, I highly recommend this shop, dogs are never stressed, cute atmosphere. Pat and his wife have even rescued dogs that have been left by owners to never pick them up, can you imagine. Since meeting Pat and his wife they have grown from owning 2 dogs to I think 6 or more. We take our black lab here for baths and nail clippings. She loves it. They are great with her. She has sensitive skin and they use a mild soap. She always comes home with a cute bandana too. The Grooming Lodge is a great place to bring your dog. You get excellent service, and very good prices. They have a 'college' where trainees can groom your dog for an even better price, and they do a great job too. We have taken our lab here for years, and are always delighted with the professional job they do on her bi-annual shaving. They also clean her ears, teeth and trim the nails. Well~this place gets a D- for customer relations! Lea, the owners wife is a hot headed and rude Asian woman that does not have a filter when it comes to speaking to customers. She was such a turn off that I will not ever return there~ regardless of a better than average rate for a shampoo for my dog! Her attitude made me question how the animals are treated- she didn't seem to like her job! I've been bringing my Golden Retriever, Foley, to the Grooming Lodge for years. She happily goes back to be groomed with whoever is at the front desk. (This is NOT the case at some other places we've tried! She's been known to dig in and refuse to go back. Dogs communicate very eloquently when they want to.) I have been taking my dog Gina to the Grooming Lodge since she was 12 weeks old. The staff worked so well with her at such a young age that she is completely comfortable getting her nails cut every time. Took my Golden Retriever here two times. The first time was not too bad thought they took too long to groom him. Since it was okay I took him here again last Saturday and just wanted him bathed and his ears, feet, and rear fur neatened up. What I got was they took four hours again and the results were horrible. First since it had been over four hours we decided they must have forgot to call us so we went into the shop. First we were greeted with "I was just going to call you" and rudely said "Next time wait for our call before you come". WHY? I'll tell you why, first she tried to say that he had mats on his rear fur so she had to shave back there.We brush him daily but I guess we might have missed them. The thing is even if that is true which I am not sure of, why would you not make both sides the same? One side of his rear fur is shaved down and the other is long. I didn't even see that before we left but what I did see was that they had fur sticking up on his head like the either cut too much fur or not enough on his ears. I will never go to this groomer again and recommend no one else go. read more
