This is sculpture that is located right out front of the Eiteljorg Museum and welcomes visitors to the museum. The sculpture was created by George Carlson in 1989. This 2 ton sculpture is made of bronze. The sculpture depicts a proud Native American Blackfoot elder welcoming visitors with open arms. He is holding a fan made of eagle wings, in a gesture of friendship.
The sculpture has a lot of detail and you can just feel the subjects pride and warmth. It sits high upon a 4 to 5 foot pedestal. It is a towering sculpture. I would say about 10 to 12 feet. There are many smaller versions of this sculpture out there that you can purchase
There are some commercial garages nearby to park. You may also be able to find some scarce metered street parking within a reasonable walking distance.
As is the case with most public art that I have visited and reviewed, this is probably not a very long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. It is probably best to plan out additional stops and make it part of a larger itinerary to maximize your trip. You could start with White River Park or one of three Wonderful Museums located nearby. Heck, you are already at the front door of the Eiteljorg Museum if you are here anyway. read more
