When I got to London, our Air B&B happened to be located right across the park (bush?) from The Green. My friend and I were a bit jet lagged, but we knew we wanted to have a drink, and there was The Green. I noticed that a few reviewers noted that this place is a good pub with nothing particularly special. But coming from New York, it felt exceptional to me. (Call me easily impressed if you must!) From the moment I walked in, it had a very cozy, comforting ambiance, from the lighting to the comfy chairs, to the section in the back that looked like we had stumbled into someone's livingroom. The bartenders were all extremely nice, and I loved the selection of beers - not to mention the very tall glasses! We only bought one beer each before a few guys politely came up to us asking if they could get the next round. Two other friends we made ended up getting the next round after that, all just making polite conversation. And that's how you talk to a pair of nice young ladies -- American dudes, take notes! :D Sure, The Green didn't recruit these guys to give us a warm welcome, but I'd like to think it had something to do with the good vibes all around. I miss this place already!

The Green is one of those pubs you go to that you know is safe and easy. The pub hasn't tried to hard and has almost taken a blueprint of what it *thinks* a pub should look and feel like and built itself around this mould. Unfortunately, many pubs are like this around London, it's nice when you find something more quirky and unsual. Quirky and unusual, The Green is not. The pub food is really, really bland and bog standard, the clientele are a mix and the beer is a little stale. With the Defector's Weld just across the road, I know where I'll be heading for my Shepherd'd Bush pint, it won't be The Green.

I never expected to be blown away by a pub on Acton High Street. ACTON!! Still, I followed a…read morefriend's recommendation to come down for a jazz open mic on a Friday night and I almost missed it. Once inside you are in pub heaven with a traditional looking lounge at the front, you almost walk into the bands as you enter the pub but there's plenty of seating to enjoy the music from a safe distance too. You pass through another section before the place opens up to the main bar at the back. It has quite a continental feel to it, and I can't believe I didn't immediately spot the massive vats at the back - I was too busy admiring the statues on the bar. And it's difficult not to be tempted by the selection of beers when in a brewery and I didn't regret my choice of Achtung. They also serve food and while the main menu is limited to sausage rolls and pies you can also order pizza or sushi which is delivered directly to your table by local takeaways. I'll definitely be back, a real gem.

This is an awesome olde pub (there is even a list of landlords on the wall going back a couple of…read morehundred years) but with a modern microbrewery at the back. A winning combination! Their Early Doors IPA was always likely to be my favourite, but I also enjoyed Dark Matter, 2 O'clock Ordinary and their Weissbier called Achtung! Good brewery. We stayed long enough to warrant some food. The burgers looked delicious, but we decided to go for 3 snacks for a tenner. This meant we could both have a snack of our choice and also share some chips. I enjoyed the luxury fish fingers! (No Captain Birdseye here!)
