I went to the Great Junk Hunt in Del Mar last Saturday, March 1, 2025. My intention was just to go with a group of girlfriends, have fun, grab lunch, and just look around. I had no intention really on buying anything. Not sure what happened but I bought the most out of all the girls. ‍ It was so much fun! Custom made hand bags matching wallets from Napa Valley California. Heavenly scented body spray oils. So many treasures... too much to mention. I personally prefer the setting in Del Mar for an after shopping walk and dinning with an ocean view. Definitely going back next year for sure. Kathi Mustaffa

PRO-TIP: BRING CASH…read more They have ATM's on site, but of course there's a fee. You need cash to even purchase tickets in, so keep that in mind. There's different prices for different days. On a Sunday afternoon, it was $3 per person. For frequent shoppers and vendors, I think they have stamp cards, which is neat. We had to speed run this trip because we had plans later on in the day, but we saw there was a swap meet across the street from the Brazilian restaurant that we were getting brunch at and nothing prepared us for how MASSIVE it is. I grew up going to swap meets, with one down the street for me, but this is hands down the BIGGEST one that I've been to. So big that my friends and I got split up immediately and it was somewhat difficult to find each other and leave towards the end since there's just rows and rows and aisles and aisles each and which way you turn with some dead ends here and there. There's food vendors and of course, lots of trinket, electronics, thrifted, home goods, and so much more. There's plants, fresh fruit, nuts, a neat little accordion (not sure what it's called but it's antique looking and little mechanical bits and pieces to it) that a performer had, jewelry, toys, video games, unique artwork, school supplies, clothes, etc. Before entering, we saw a vendor selling 6 pieces of clothing for $10. Friend got a bunch of accessories and jewelry for under $20. I got a cool 2 headed T-rex for $2. Some cool things were vintage Beanie Babies and the Panda Express restaurant signs? I would love to come back here and thoroughly parse through everything. Get there early in the morning and then spend hours here.

I've been here a few times and every time I leave annoyed. They really have the nerve to charge $3…read moreto get in and for what? To look at a bunch of dusty clothes that look like they've been sitting in somebody's garage since 2010. It's literally just an overpriced yard sale at this point. And the vendors act like they're running luxury boutiques. One dude straight up pulled out his phone to Google an item in front of me and then tried to convince me it was "rare." If you want eBay prices, go list it on eBay. Nobody is walking around a swap meet carrying $200+ cash for crusty sweaters and busted toys. Be serious. Also, there's a vendor everyone should avoid. He's a bigger guy with a hat and glasses who has all his stuff thrown directly on the ground. He was yelling at people over looking at items. He tried to sell a kids toy car and a random doll for $75 and refused to separate them. When someone said he should just sell it online, he got loud and defensive like he was about to square up over a toy. He even told a customer to "fix" how they put something down. Sir, this is a swap meet, not a museum. The whole energy here is weird. Overpriced junk, rude people, and zero reason to come back. The $3 entry is already too much. Honestly, I'd rather go sit in my car in silence. Do yourself a favor and skip this place.

Not bad for a first time event!…read more Easy to navigate, a variety of vendors, new, old and re-purposed. Classic cars, vintage garb and a stage with music. With a decor of cassettes tapes lining the backdrop. Simple but puts you in a familiar place but way back. My favorite booth by Road Trip seemed almost more of an art experience in itself, than a destination, picnic baskets, blankets, and pie. Some other favorites are the custom suits and the earrings made from bathing suits and they are waterproof! The VW Van and cars were fab and fitting for the day, the one side silver, one side gold marijauna earrings were a crack up and we picked up an acid dyed fedora from the 70's for my husband. And he hates vintage shopping. What a fun find. I think we missed the vinyl. They may have been playing it vs selling it. If you wanted you could pay $8 and make a macrame key chain on-site. And for $60 get a VIP ticket for Peltzer wine, a cocktail bar, a lunch ticket and a private lounge area with tents for shelter. All could attend free. It was business as usual at Vail HQ with the event sponsored by In the Loop. They sponsor the night market and other events at Vail HQ. The market offers amazing food trucks, fun photo backdrops, music, and even a VIP area that you can purchase tickets to before the event. Definitely plan to come early, chill, and bring your spending money because there are so many amazing vintage goodies. Although most of it is clothing, there are definitely home goods, kids items, and all kinds of other accessories too. The entire vibe is just so cool and retro. Stoked to have this event in our little town!

This was my first and last time I'm ever going to rent a stall at the Escondido World Market Place…read moreto sell my used items. I was met but a kind security guard who was able to help direct me to the office. It was easy to rent at the office, easy to find the rental spot (which was well marked and well maintained), easy to setup and easy to sell at 2:30 pm. After 5 hours I sold most of my items and was ready to leave the Market Place which was around 7:30 pm. There were many shoppers and families walking and looking around, up and down the aisles. This was a great experience up to this point. Then my difficulties escalated. So, after packing up (took me only 5 minutes) I proceeded to drive ever so slowly to the exit. When I came near the exit, there was a show with dancers right in the middle of the road and a crowd assembled around them watching the show, which blocked my way out. I was greatly perplexed and confused. A security personnel (with a face mask) saw me attempting to leave and all he did was wave at me to say "no" and walked away. I felt embarrassed. He did not approach me to give me any directions. So, I carefully reversed back seeing that the street was not passable and to wait out the crowds. In the meantime, I greatly enjoyed a delicious meal at Mariscos El Flako of 3 birria street tacos. It was so good! I would definitely go back for that!!! So, I waited another hour to see if the crowds would thin out. The escondidowm.com website indicated that Fridays hours were 2:00 pm to 8:30 pm. Don't trust the website. It needs updating (per office staff). On my second attempt to exit, the streets were still very busy and precarious to get to the Exit. However, a very nice couple helped me to navigate through the streets and people and to help clear the way to the exit. I truly appreciated their kindness. It was very harrowing to drive through. I did eventually get to the exit. There, I was stopped by the kind security guard who helped me at 2:30 pm and he informed me that the sellers are not allowed to leave the Market Place until 10:00 pm, because it is too dangerous for vehicles and people. I emphatically told him that I was not informed by the office personnel or in writing about this curfew. If I was informed, I wouldn't be trying to leave at 8:30 pm. He started to suggest that I return back to by rental spot, but, after looking at the crowds he said that would be very difficult and I agreed with him. He gave me a very compassionate look of I understand your position. The other security guard at the gate (the one who only waved and walked away earlier) gestured "no" again and refused to open the gate. But, the first security guard explained that this was my first time here, only then did the gate guard reluctantly open the gate and emphasized and gestured to me that "Friday's is 10:00 pm" as I drove out the gate. The embarrassment of the ordeal could have been prevented at my first attempt if that security guard came up to me, obviously confused and inform me about the requirement of 10:00 pm. Or better yet, something clearly in writing about the requirement to stay until 10:00 pm of which I would have gladly complied. I would have been able to eat more street tacos at Mariscos El Flako!!! The vendors are very kind and hard working people. I admire their willingness to work and to sacrifice their time to make a living. And they are always smiling. Great Market Place with many various items, well displayed, good entertainment and wholesome environment for every one of all ages. Authentic Mexican services, foods and products. Love the smell of the grills and the leather boots.
