When i first read reviews i thought people were over reacting, i have stayed in some pretty shabby hotels but never been robbed off until we stayed here! DO NOT DO IT! When booking this hotel (on 2 occasions) we got told that it was only a £15 security deposit. However, when we arrived we got told by a very rude receptionist that it was actually £50, between the 7 of us that went it cost us £350 to stay at the grapevine. The thing we were most shocked about is that there wasn't actually £50 worth of things in the room to brake. Also, when we arrived my friend had asked the receptionist if the rooms were safe to leave our valuables in, the receptionist then replied that they were safe and the only people who could get in there were people with a key (i.e the people that work there). The bed sheets had stains on them and the whole room smelt damp and was cold. Anyway, we put this aside and just wanted to have a good night. When getting ready for our night out the shower dripped out and the water was either freezing cold or burning hot. We then went out about 9.45pm making sure our door was securely shut behind us. We then arrived back to the hotel at just gone 3am. Then one of the girls who was in our triple room noticed that her suitcase had moved, she then opened the suitcase to find that the £20 we had all chipped in for to get the car out the car park the next day had been taken. I told her to double check in her suitcase but the money had gone and it was obvious that someone had rummaged through her suitcase. Another girl then looked in her purse (which she had hid under her pillow) and £20 of her money had also gone. I then looked in my purse and it was clear that someone had rummaged through my purse as all my change fell out when i opened it and the picture of my mum and dad i had in my purse was moved, Luckily i had all my money on me that night so they didn't get anything from me. We then rang the police and they told us that this has happened on MANY occasions at the grapevine and would come and get a statement off us in the morning, which they did. A man that worked at the hotel came and saw us, he wasn't even bothered about us and the way he was talking was like it happened all the time and said 'what do you expect, it is a hostel at the end of the day'. Well to be honest when we pay a ridiculas £50 security deposit the least we expect is security off the hotel. That night us 3 girls were all scared about sleeping in that room when we knew someone had been in there going through our stuff just a couple hours before, bit of a coincident that our room was the only room without CCTV outside of it. Even police said it sounded like an INSIDE JOB, you need to look into your staff! We got no sleep and sat up all night scared. DO NOT STAY HERE AND DEFINATLY DO NOT LEAVE ANY MONEY IN THE ROOM!!! read more
