I spent the month of February in Naples. I figured this would be a great opportunity to take my…read morefirst-ever golf lesson, focusing on my driver swing, which was the weakest part of my game. I researched options and decided to spring for a pricey 6-lesson package with Mark, including two on-course sessions. I decided to wait several months to see if my lessons really improved my game, rather than just talk about personal impressions. Four months later, I have quantifiable results to report. Prior to Mark's tutelage, my driver swing was very upright and steep. With repetition I could moderate my slice with a lot of hip turn, but I was always 20-30 yards behind my partners, even with a solid hit. Note that I'm a senior golfer with an 85-mph swing using an old King Cobra 10.5-deg offset driver. Mark changed my setup quickly, shifting from a "ferris wheel" swing to a "merry go round" swing. The Trackman numbers showed the potential, but, not surprisingly, I wasn't very consistent while playing in February between lessons. I spent 2-3 hours a week on a simulator in March, then started to shift outdoors despite the cool (Floridians would say c-o-o-o-l-d) April temps. Results were better than the year prior, but not astounding and now I had added an ugly duck-hook to my repertoire (which of course only showed up at the worst possible time). Even so, my carry distance increased to over 200 yards, but the wet ground limited any rollout. I played to a 15.5 handicap index last year. In May, I finally broke 80 on my home course (78 & 79 on consecutive weeks), with an average driving distance of 210 & 220, respectively, plus max drives of 230-240 (I keep track of these things as I have nothing better to do with my time). Of course, it hasn't been that way every week, but last week in warmer temps and with a 9-degree driver, I really started to crank my drives, averaging 225 with a several drives over 250 and one an astounding (for me) 275. Oh, and the modified swing allows me to swing in the 90-95 mph range without hurting myself. I've shared my detailed results with Mark. He can make a difference if you give him your full attention and take his recommendations with you to the driving range. If I can do it at my age and with two artificial knees, then most people should be able to see an improvement. Oh, and he's a personable, nice guy who provides constructive feedback in a low-pressure manner. That's part of his skillset, but imho you still need to get results.

For context, I'm late 50's and currently a 6 index (4.5 was the low). We changed things in set-up to be more athletic and better position to strike the ball. Spent a lot of time on using the lower body in the swing which dramatically increased club head speed and resulted in much higher ball flight with irons. We continue to build on it - each session gets better results. I couldn't recommend him more. Great coach and cool guy.

The service is (as you might expect of the Ritz), unparalleled. The rooms are clean, well kept, and every detail from flooring to furniture to fixture is solid quality. The resort truly feels like a lush sanctuary, and our 12-year-old absolutely loved the water area -- especially the three water slides and lazy river, which quickly became the highlight of the trip. We stayed in a King room with a balcony, and the spacious marble bathroom with double vanities felt especially luxurious. I also appreciated the little details throughout the stay, like the in-room Nespresso coffee bar and the Diptyque toiletries featuring the Philosykos scent -- a fresh fig and woody blend that made the room feel extra spa-like. During our stay, we explored several dining options around the property. We grabbed breakfast to-go from EXpress(O), enjoyed evening cocktails at Bella Vista Lounge, and relaxed poolside with chips, guacamole, and drinks from Ría Bar. Everything felt very family-friendly while still maintaining that signature Ritz-Carlton luxury experience. We left feeling relaxed, refreshed, and already looking forward to our next visit to Naples. Wish we had time to enjoy the Mother's Day brunch.
