Being a resource person by temperament and training, I did some research and found their website. I also found this thread of Yelp reviews. My friend couldn't go to the A Priori website because it's down being redesigned. The woman at A Priori told me that these folks had been impacted by the recent hurricane but were bouncing back. Looking at the website, I saw quite a few clocks in a range of prices, so they have a bigger inventory than I anticipated. Interestingly, the price of the clock I bought at A Priori was less expensive than from the artist. . While I haven't been to the showroom, the previous two reviewer have and it seems like it's worth a visit if you're in the vicinity.

We knew it was going to be a rainy week and wanted to browse the travel info for indoor options. Hubby saw a brochure for Sabbath-Day Woods so we decided to go on our way to Asheville. There were at least 5 people working that day - all we spoke with were very friendly. We talked with the lead craftsman and he was very helpful explaining about the different woods and processes used to make the items. I decided to get a candle (my weakness) while hubby continuing chatting with the man. Finally hubby selected a clock for his office - a beautiful craftsman made out of cherry wood. After we left, I browsed their website - which is beautifully done as well. So glad we stopped in Sabbath-Day Woods as not only did we support a local family business but also bought a beautiful clock that will be cherished.

They had a nice selection of king size headboards and we just so happen to be in need of one. The salesperson was very helpful, answered all of our questions and before we knew it we bought 4 pieces of beautiful Amish made black walnut bedroom furniture. Our home is 65 miles from the store and we arranged to have everything delivered. The delivery team gave us the "white glove" treatment and we could not be any happier with the service provided by High Country Furniture.

It was nice to visit but the amount of Confederate memorabilia (heroic Stonewall riding through town with the traitorous flag) left me with a bad taste. I could have overlooked this bit of Southern Pride but then I came across the most racist thing I've ever seen in my years on this planet. A shelf dedicated to "black" memorabilia- a sat and pepper shaker set of little black boys that were created to overwhelminlgly resemble apes. It made me sick to my stomach.

At the flea market I found a shirt that said "You're the Trailer Park - I'm the Tornado." The…read moredesign had 1990's look to it but was a new design. The designer wasn't there but their business card was so I grabbed it. It was a women's XL shirt so I thought it would be too small. Actually it was the size of a men's triple XL. I guess will have to order one my size. Other shirts I saw there (different designer though) were "Heifer Please" and "The Confederate States of America - Love it or Leave it" (bravest losers of all time)... oh and the Jeep ones that say "Boobie Bouncer." They also had a section that printed older style shirts, like the "In Loving Memory" ones or the heart ones with you and your lover's name. I remember at the fair seeing these type of shirts all the time in the 80's but very rarely anymore. I've missed them. I wanted to get one but it was overwhelming with all of the choices. Also at the flea market was this device kids could attach to their bike and then add chalk to it so they can draw things as they ride or if you want your kid to ride over to the neighbors and write "suck it" in their driveway... Saw a handwritten sign that said "free smells," and later realized they were selling candles or something but at first wasn't sure if I wanted to sniff or not... it was candles so I opted out...

The listed address shows as in the center of Clayton. It's not - the market is north of town. Lot of stuff including both new and used. If you're looking for old cast iron cookware, they've got it. Easy parking on the left side of the building as you come off the highway. The entrance is on the left side, too. Although it was closed at the time we were there, the Wicked Pig BBQ restaurant is located in the back of the market. You can access it either from outside the building or from inside the market.

Yes, some things are "I know what I got" ridiculous pricing, but if you search, there are actually some wonderful antique finds and collectibles at fair, honest pricing. I'm a bibliophile and have found some beautiful leatherbound hardback books here, as well as a bell creamer from the UK, and a hat from a famous New Orleans milliner. But every time we're at our Maggie Valley property, it's seemingly closed.

My next project was to rebuild an antique corner cabinet and I found some old shelving at Big Red Barn that was perfect for the project. We have purchased a new home in Maggie Valley and Terry purchased a table and chairs that we no longer wanted. He gave me a fair price for the items and we both made out on the deal. I like to refurbish antiques and collectibles so the place really fits the bill for me. I have also rented a U haul from there and the service was excellent. My kind of place.
