Treehouse World

Took my seven year old grandson here last week. Worth every penny! He walked the plank, flew down…read morethe zip lines and lived all of the different tree houses. The only thing I would say negatively; I don't believe the axe throwing station should be available to anyone under at least twelve and with better supervision. There were two young boys just chopping at the target and they could not throw the axes safely. A potential accident waiting to happen. Otherwise it was an amazing day for both of us.

I am not sure if Treehouse World is better during the summer with more staff, but I was less than…read morethrilled about our recent visit. One employee was manning the front office. Very nice, but was taking forever to check in. We waited almost 20 minutes to check in and I had pre-purchase tickets. Then we had to wait at the harness station. Another 15 minutes because only 1 employee. A second arrived, but that's when we were at the front of the line. The treehouses themselves are pretty cool. Sadly, more than one had trash left by people. So sad. Staff was nice, but they were short staffed. Multiple things weren't manned so we couldn't Partake in them. We walked to the farther zipline to find no one there to run it. The tomahawk throw didn't have staff. The bungee bounce had one worker so two pads weren't used. Forced us to wait 15-20 minutes for a turn. Then 1 minute later, the staff rotated and the new person ended my child's turn, not realizing they just got on the trampoline. The other issue was lack of parenting. A birthday party of boys was happening and the boys weren't being supervised. They were not following rules and the staff was too young to take control. When adults didn't follow the rules, I had to remove my child from the activity out of safety. The cost was then no longer worth it as time and again, we weren't able to do the activity. We left and won't return at full cost. It's a shame because it could be great.

Not a fan of this gymnastics gym. They do not seem to care about advancing gymnasts. My daughter…read moremissed the older group cutoff by one month and they were forcing her to stay in the "toddler" group when she is nearly 6 years old and has 3 years experience with multiple gyms. Their drills for "toddlers" are ridiculous, throwing a bean bag, walking across a mat, it's very childish and for babies. They have very young girls teaching the classes and they seem to just be focused on making a profit. When I inquired about moving my daughter up bc she was bored, they refused to even offer to test her and then ignored my email completely and rejected her entrance to the older team, when she can do multiple tricks and is close to completing a back hand-spring. She wasn't even allowed to do cart wheels in the "toddler" group. Everything is solely based on birthdate and not skill. We switched to Synergy and they immediately tested her and advanced her to the higher group. Synergy is much more professional and they are focused on training girls to become gymnasts and not making a profit.

High demand for classes, which is a tribute to patient, caring, fun teachers and classes! Very competitive team with dedicated and well trained coaches who clearly love what they do. Great experience for beginners to the sport or parents just looking to get their child more active!

West Chester Area YMCA

Speaking as a lifelong West Chester resident. I've been a member of the YMCA of Greater Brandywine…read morefor some time, primarily using the West Chester location on Airport Road. While I appreciate the facilities and the overall mission of the Y, I am increasingly frustrated with the inconsistent and arbitrary enforcement of rules in the Wellness Center, which has significantly impacted my experience. The posted Wellness Center Rules clearly state under "Personal Belongings: Please store bags and items in lockers." Recently, however, this guideline has been strictly enforced as a outright ban on gym bags on the floor, with staff citing "safety reasons" (potential tripping hazards). Yet many other rules on the same sign--such as re-racking weights and avoiding dropping them, limiting cardio machine use to 30 minutes during busy times, using headphones for music/videos, and wiping down equipment--are routinely ignored. Unracked weights, dropped barbells, and cluttered equipment create far greater safety risks than a responsibly placed gym bag, but these violations go unaddressed, even during peak hours. Even more concerning is the allowance of independent, non-YMCA-affiliated CrossFit sessions on the wellness floor. This is not a dedicated CrossFit facility, and these high-intensity group workouts frequently involve heavy lifts and dynamic movements that result in dropped weights (directly violating the posted "avoid dropping" rule) and take up large areas of shared space, increasing risks for other members. CrossFit carries well-documented higher injury potential compared to standard individual workouts, yet it appears to be permitted without oversight. This double standard suggests favoritism or other priorities over consistent safety and fairness for all members. Regular gym-goers like myself rely on a gym bag for practical reasons: it keeps essentials organized (clean clothes, towels, water bottles, recovery tools), maintains hygiene by separating sweaty gear, and supports efficient routines for busy schedules. Some members even carry emergency medical items--inhalers, EpiPens, or glucose monitors--for conditions like asthma or diabetes, needing quick access during workouts. Unfortunately, these selective policies and lack of uniform enforcement reflect poorly on management. It feels as though member convenience, fairness, and actual safety take a backseat to arbitrary decisions. This is the primary reason I give the West Chester YMCA low referral ratings and hesitate to recommend it to others. I hope leadership will review these practices to ensure rules are applied consistently and the facility remains a truly positive, safe, and welcoming space for everyone--as the posted sign promises.

They welcomed the effort but didn't push too hard for exercising. There weren't any obstacle course elements in the class. We were allowed to stay after and ask some ninja warrior potential experts on a few techniques of the obstacles. It was nice to celebrate little victories- kind of like the non-single Matt Nathanson song of the same phrase . This place has obstacle course equipment with more of an adult look but kids are also welcome and encouraged as they probably bring most of the funding to the gym too. Outside had some equipment as well as part of the 30 min circuit training. Some people might not like the younger kids or the dogs that were around. The kids around were in line and well behaved and one of the dogs seemed jealous of not enough attention and started to get in my way of my running path. It was a bit comical for me. Oh a temporary break lol. Some of the staff keep the place well cleaned and maintained. This was probably a 4 star experience for me but the community element here helps me bump it to a 5
