I went unhealthy and got the chicken and chips (unfortunately they ran out of the fish and chips---too many people in my group of 18 ordered it), but was still happy with my choice. The breaded chicken fillet was moist and covered in fresh garlic. The Green Cross also offers a wide variety of ales, lagers, and ciders. There is quite the massive patio which is perfect for group drinking (easily can sea 40 people) on those rare sunny days. Despite having a ridiculously large group, service and quick and friendly. All in you'd be hard pressed to find a nicer casual pub in Kent serving great food.

The Swan was part of a commercial wine complex that included a visitors centre and various other upmarket coach trip type places. Trouble is, it didn't seem to work & all that's left are the grapes & this pub. Sadly it still feels like a mass (up) market corporate venue. Loads of space but little character beyond the snug bar. Just magnolia paint and shiny tables.......and not as many visitors as they'd hoped for. Still, they're friendly (free grub during the pub quiz!), serve Harveys & London Pride and have tons of parking, a big beer garden & kids play area. Not bad, just not as great as the village and area deserve. Visit The Elephants Head nearby instead........

We didn't eat here but the menu looked good (the usual pub options plus some more adventurous ones) and the portions generous. They say the food is home cooked though I can't vouch for the quality of the kitchen. Harvey's of Sussex beers on tap pleased my husband and Crabbies alcoholic ginger beer kept me happy. A good place to stop at when visiting Bayham Abbey ruins or to start and finish a circular walk via Wadhurst and the abbey.
