I have tried most brands at Ulta and when I discovered DevaCurl, I knew I was starting to see the light! A quick look on the DevaCurl website and I discovered they had specialist dedicated ONLY to curly girls. I was beyond excited! Fast forward a couple of days and a flurry of texts to my friends, I came across Diane for Curls in Columbia, MD and with two referrals from my friend's cousins, I made an appointment. While she has a great schedule, she is uber popular and typically books in 2 hour increments for the first appointment - we scheduled about 2 months in advance. Diane was completely thorough and super responsive via email. She was incredibly detailed as I gave her my daughters hair type, pics of her hair, what we hope to achieve, and her current list of products. Diane recommended reading the Curly Handbook (A MUST!) as well as some do's and don't's to prepare for the upcoming appointment. I walked in the salon with my daughter thinking I had a decent knowledge of what I was doing to her hair and I was shocked to find out while I was starting to grasp what my daughter's hair needed, my daughter's hair needed so much more. The first thing Diane did when we sat down is she spoke to my 9 year old about what SHE wanted. And I greatly appreciated that, after all it is her hair and not mine. We spent about 1.5 hours talking curly hair, products, washing procedures etc. My daughter left with vibrant bouncy well moisturized curls and a confidence boost. I left my head full of knowledge and another appointment in June to see her again. This is the start of something special - curly girls rock!!! Now can someone help me find a place to do a body wave? ;)

Franchon Parlour is the definition of excellence! Jacinta has been styling my hair for over 8 year…read more I'm very particular about who does my hair as all hairstylists are not created equal. Not only is Jacinta a phenomenal stylist, she does her job with care for clients. I live in DC and I drive the distance to the salon because my hair is that important to me and Franchon Parlour/Jacinta, is just that good. My hair is natural and Jacinta does a great job of keeping my hair healthy and growing. Whether I get a weave with color or a press and curl, I'm never disappointed. Jacinta's natural ability to connect with her clients while you're in her chair is another reason why I continue to go back. Tarah is the other stylist in the salon and though she has never done my hair, she is always warm, professional and pleasant. I've watched Tarah style some of her clients and like Jacinta, attention to detail of the hair is a given. Long review short, if you're looking for a stylist that provides you consistent quality and and healthy hairstyles, this is where it's at. Check out Franchon Parlour!

It was clear the stylist didn't want to do it and we settled on a dark brown to cover the gray. I'm glad we didn't do a more complex color because she couldn't get this simple color down. My hair still had sections of gray I could've done a better job. Then the blowout no heat protectant was used and my hair was flat ironed and then curled with this skinny iron giving me these super tight church curls then the only product used was a hairspray that made my hair crunchy. My newly trimmed ends felt dry and brittle. I washed my hair at home the same day only to find my hair was uneven from the trim. I was charged $85 she didn't charge me for the color. A few days later I noticed my account was charged twice.

She said it was because of the length of my hair. My mothers hair is down her back and started falling out after 3 days of having her hair done. She stated this was because of her texture. Both my mom and I have been getting our hair braided for years with no issues, so this is kind of hard to believe. There was no offer to re-do the strands that had fallen out of my mothers hair or to fix my hair. I am very very disappointed and will not be back. I would rather wait a bit at my previous salon and know my style will last versus sitting with someone who will rush and takes no pride in their work. Also, during my mom's appointment she took a call from someone trying to get their son's hair done. She told the woman she was booked on every day that the woman asked for and stated when she got off of the phone that no one is going to tell her when they get their hair done. They will come when she says or not at all. She also bragged about telling people she can't do certain things because she doesn't feel like doing those styles or they take too long. I am assuming this is why my hair didn't last since I requested the crocheted individually and she did them a different way. Save yourself the waste of money and hassle and go elsewhere... -Jahkara
