The room I got had a highly-efficient studio feel, with a HUGE double-sized bathtub/shower. The lighting here is exactly in tune with the rest of the hotel, and accent all parts of the room perfectly. The food & drinks here are truly fantastic (and for that you're going to pay a bit of a premium). The daytime bartender knows how to make an absolutely amazing Whiskey Sour, and he even has a special version made with Gentleman Jack, maple syrup, and orange marmalade! Naturally, since this place is called the east Hotel, there is a sublime selection of sushi and other Japanese culinary delights that you have to try! This is now my go-to hotel whenever I'm in Hamburg!

Easily my favourite European hotel - I've been staying here for over four years. Great location,…read morenice rooms and excellent in-house bar / restaurant. The rooms are large and with modern art decor. Comfortable and uniquely shaped beds, large shower areas with jet tub (openly located in the room), desk area, bar area (with full min bar) and lot's of "artsy" shaped furniture. The hotel is located near the waterfront and Reeperbhan. About $28 euro from the Hamburg airport. I really enjoy the main level bar area. Great atmosphere, dark, cool modern long bar down one side, large high wood tables with bar stools, and even some limited outdoor seating. Service is always great and they have a limited food menu with about 10 selections prepared in the main restaurant. I love the Maisels Weisse beer on tap, so refreshing. I always enjoy the sushi when I stay here, either at the bar or in the main restaurant. The menu changes up every year and the chef is always creating unique combinations. The fish choices are different vs. North American sushi restaurants - more eel, crab and crawfish. Also more non-fish options (i.e. Duck). That said, they still have some salmon or tuna options at select times. Service is consistently good throughout the hotel including check in/out, room service / cleaning, bars and restaurant. Never had a negative experience. PS - You can wear your room keys around your neck - this ensures you get back to the hotel after long crazy nights. BK

Still I loved this one and would always book this particular one because - I needed to meet a business partner on two days for six hour meetings. We sat at the community table in the lobby - stylish, sort of quiet, but surrounded by the most friendly staff you can imagine. - the staff wowed me. They really did. Now, why "only" four stars then? In my rating scheme, five stars is extraordinary. While the rooms were stylish and perfectly clean - extraordinary is more. To give five starts, I must be willing to make a detour of 30 mins or more just to go there. I highly recommend this particular hotel though. it is within walking distance to Alster Lake and in the Hohenfelde area. Also, walking distance to St. Georg area where there is a nice variety of restaurants. Bonus-there is a train stop right in front & can be taken to the airport (1/2 hour) and the city center is 5-10 minutes. Parking is €18 :-(

They were also able to store my luggage on the last day for a few hours after checkout although the storage area looked full which was appreciated. I booked it trough an on-line booking site, and got the "free breakfast and mini bar" at the same price as the room without it normally goes for. As I was travelling with my female best friend of over 30 years, we chose a room with separate beds, which is harder to find than one would expect. The staff was also incredibly friendly and helpful at any time of day. When we checked in, the desk staff advised us that breakfast and the mini bar were free, and to feel free "to empty it every night and it won't cost a thing". We indulged in the sparkling and still water as well as the lovely variety of local chocolates and other snacks in the mini bar. The hotel's location is VERY convenient, just a few minutes walk from the train station. The breakfast was definitely on the better side of what's expected, with a huge variety and lots of authentic local German food (such as the chunky liverwurst in natural casing). Our room was BIG, luxurious and modern, had excellently effective air conditioning, and was QUIET!!!! We also chose this because the booking site listed hot tubs, swimming pools, saunas, and steam rooms as available amenities. These are actually part of the Meridian Spa Am Michel, which shares the same building as the hotel. It is only free to use for hotel patrons during certain hours, and costs a discounted 20 euros for use at other times. We were surprised to find that the hot tub, saunas, and steam room are all mandatory nude. The swimming pool is the only area in which you can wear a swimsuit if you so choose. Germans do not view the naked human body as something to be ashamed of or hidden ("we're free here" per one of our tour guides). All in all, the Madison hotel was the best hotel say I've ever had, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

It is still a top notch hotel, love the size of the rooms which includes your typical amenities which include a mini fridge, single serve European coffee maker. It also has an electric stove top to cook or heat up your food. Some rooms have balcony for smokers but they all have huge windows letting in a lot of light. Check in and out is a breeze. The hotel has a small bar just behind the front desk. It of course offers your usual drinks, wines and beer of your liking. It always has a nice restaurant on property which offers fresh prepared meals. The rolls are crusty and fresh. Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. They also have large and small conference rooms offering catered snacks and meals. I really love the fact that there are coffee, cappuccino mains outside of the meeting rooms which helps you stay awake for those less than exciting meetings. I also love the fact that throughout the hotel there are apples that you can grab as a healthy snack. On top of this at the front desk you can get gummy candy by the spoonful. The staff is very professiona and frieny throughout the property. The rooms are kept clean and fresh. Hotel offer on site underground parking. No more than 20 minutes from the airport so this location offers tons of advantages. Don't just take my words for it, come and visit them, you will not be disappointed.
