PLEASE NOTE: This review is NOT about the person who did the work as they were awesome. It cost me $560 to have 3 gaskets replaced in a toilet tank. For Iess than 2 hours of work. Included in the price was a $90 charge to have a truck come out. Also included was a "house inspection" that I didn't want or need (my house is less than 10 years old). However, given that it was already included in the price, I let them do it. This should be an "optional" service, not a mandatory one. I will not repeat. read more

I live in Red Deer but the receipt says Calgary. Richard came out to unclog a drain and was extremely competent. I knew what he Looked like as they sent me a picture prior to his arrival on time. He did a thorough Job of explaining the process. It took him 4.5 hours but I was well aware of what he was doing and while it cost me I felt 100% satisfied what could have been a serious expensive backup. I saw on his camera with my own eyes what the problem was that he solved.Highly recommend him. read more

I had a plugged toilet and am a member of the "Gentlemen Pros" regular maintainance program. I pay a monthly fee. It took me 3 days to get a call back from them then they charged me $467 to snake the toilet. He was here 10 minutes. They called me last week to schedule a yearly maintainance check. Appointment was between 1-5 today. No one showed up and no one called. When they do come here it's like dealing with a Timeshare Salesman the way they try to upsell every small issue. I cancelled my membership and will use someone more professional. read more

Giving a one star rating as zero is not an option. Don't waste your money. Called for a hot water tank coming up with a thermopile issue. After farting around for a couple hours the technician said to get any parts for it would take 8-12 weeks. That it wasn't worth fixing as the minimum repair was $500. Then proceeded to try and sell me on a $2000-$3000 water tank with either a 5 year or 10 year warranty, and that is was apples to apples the best system out there and worth every penny. Told them I needed a second opinion so they charged me $69 onsite fee and $100 diagnostic (when they didn't identify the actual issue other then my tank was a bad brand). Called another plumber, came out, soldered a piece back on and replaced the thermopile TCO wire that Gentlemen plumbers had taken with them. Water tank is working, he also noted that the current tank actually has a 10 year parts warranty and ordered the new part for me. Additionally I wanted them to fix a leaking faucet. Gentlemen plumber said he had never seen a cartridge like that and that this was not a brand of faucet he'd ever seen and that we should replace the while faucet. Turns out it was American Standard and the part is $27. Really disappointed and feel like I got an overpriced salesmen instead of a plumber. read more

Quick service! I called yesterday about my unit heater in my warehouse being down. They came today and I even had a call about 40 mins before the tech (Kale) came. He was fast and most importantly honest. He quickly had my furnace running again. I will definitely use them again. A+ read more

Needed a kitchen leak fixed. Two plumbers showed up. One had a binder and went on and on about tiers of pricing while the other one (unknown to me went and looked all around my house (creepy). Then they kept trying to upsell me. I just wanted the leak fixed. It ended up costing me several hundred dollars and they hooked the hot and cold up backwards. I would never let them back in my home. read more

The level of trust required when a plumber comes to your home and helps you solve a problem is very high. You need to feel comfortable knowing that they won't up sell you or over charge you for their time. Ben from the Gentlemen Plumbers in Calgary was the example of a professional that many service providers need to replicate. He took his time to throughly review any issue I had, and offered some sound advice. I felt very comfortable with him advising me and providing an overall 'checkup' on the house - which he did patiently and diligently. I placed a call to them and a very friendly and helpful woman secured my appointment. Two professionals arrive the following day at 2:00 pm, again very friendly and chatty. I explained the problem which was my water heater working intermittently, the burner was essentially cutting in and out. They made a number of checks to diagnose the problem, they checked the venting, flame sensor, and igniter. All seemed in working order. They determined that my gas valve was not working properly (something about an internal magnet that was failing and closing the gas on and off). They quoted me $415 to replace the gas valve and I agreed for them to go forward. After a few errors were made in securing the correct gas valve they arrived to replace it. After the replacement the water heater acted in exactly the same manner it had previously. Obviously a misdiagnosis. The two gentlemen worked tirelessly in figuring out the problem until one of them departed for another client and job at approximately 6:30. The remaining gentleman continued and determined that it was a venting problem (of which he initially checked and determined not to be the problem). He finally gave up and advised me that I would require all new venting with an estimate of over $4000, and this did not include a new water heater which would be $3300 installed. Now, I am a logical man, not a plumber but a logical and somewhat intelligent man. I could not understand that when this unit was installed in 2003 only now the venting was not efficient enough to provide the proper venting? After all, it had for 13 years. The Gentleman Plumber suggested that the venting of which was two inch, had over the years obtained a build up of materials and dust from the 13 years of operation that was now restricting the exhaust gas fumes. It didn't make sense. What made sense to me was that perhaps the blower fan was operating inefficiently due to dust build up over the years. The plumber waved the cost of the new gas valve and charged me the $69.00 service call and an additional $100 diagnostic fee. Once again, I was left with an estimate of over $4000 for new venting. It should be noted that they arrived at 2:00 pm and left at 8:00 pm. After he left I used a can of CO2 that is typically used to clean dust from computers and blew out the blower fan, turned the tank back on and it works like a charm with ZERO issues. They didn't deserve the diagnostic fee due to being wrong twice. Long story short I believe that these plumbers are gentlemen, however completely inept in resolving my plumbing issue. Also their price guide is ridiculously inflated. It would seem to me that they could take pretty good advantage of a senior or person with little knowledge and too much trust. We've taken for granted our taps with instant hot water and to do without is unfathomable. I just received my Better Business Bureau of Central and Northern Alberta 2016 Consumer Guide and listed in the 2015 Top 10 Complaints is Plumbing Contractors,...buyer beware! Had the Gentlemen Plumbers come to replace a broken toilet flange ,he brought out his fee schedule ,so when I told him he just had to remove the toilet and screw a new toilet flange extension to the old flange he said that is a step 3 approximately $370 . Ok he takes off the old toilet and then says oh that is a step 4 so now he wants to add step 3 and 4 together which would have been around $850 ,I going whaaat ,so now he says alright $692 includes the fee to come out to my house $79 approx.($1.60 per Km.). Now he's got my toilet off I can't put it back because I'm on chemotherapy and am very weak ,go ahead fix it as I 'm doing a slow boil. I told my daughter about it and she blows a gasket phones other plumbers and found it should have cost $ 350.She phones Gentleman Plumbers they said they would contact me to discuss the bill ,they left a message .I have phoned them back twice NO RESPONSE ,so now I'm writing a review and would never recommend this company to anyone if you listen to their advertising the price is supposed to agreed on by yourself and the plumber ,not doing part of the job and then jacking the price. read more
