We stopped by during Sail 250 event downtown. The restaurant was not even half full. The waitress, Janiya, was not interested in providing customer service. Upon ordering, we learned the restaurant was our of burgers. We got sodas in a can, with no cups, no ice and no straws. I asked for water and cups and received water. Some people don't like drinking from the can. The food was ok. When paying we were told there was a $9.60 service charge added since the restaurant was so busy. I grabbed dinner here the other day. I tried the buffalo wings. They had a combo of smoke and grill flavoring. I also tried the coconut curry shrimp public bowl, which was very flavorful. I also got a Caribbean jerk public bowl. There wasn't as much heat with the jerk, but if you don't like any spice, I recommend getting something else. The beans in the Caribbean bowl weren't as tender as I would've liked. They have a good amount of tables and seating. The staff is really nice and answered all of my questions. I went to The General Public on Grandy, they are fairly new. I had the Carolina Burger with pulled pork and coleslaw with waffle fries. The patties were balled by hand, so the burger wasn't too dense. I won't do justice in my description of the burger patty, but it was juicy, really good, and very messy. They made it perfectly medium rare. For desert, I had red velvet cheescake balls. They were delicious. I hate myself for eating so much, but it's so worth it. I'm most upset about all the great reviews that got me to try this place. Y'all lied. Service was ok. Drinks do not come with refills. It took 45 mins to get a chicken sandwich with fries and their loaded fries. They aren't loaded by the way and served in a bowl causing most of the fries to have nothing on them. There were only 2 other people in the place with to go boxes already on their table. The fries were fried too long that they were almost painful to eat. Just stopped in for a quick lunch. I was recommended the Caribbean bowl by the lady who took my order and it is surprisingly good. All of the components are well seasoned and cook properly. The rice has a great texture, the chicken is tender, the beans and cabbage are a welcome addition to the meal making it more well balanced.
