Jen was our instructor for our pre Hurricane silversmith workshop. She was such a delightful instructor. She had a full store of customers and students. She was never flustered or inpatient with any question or instruction. She truly LOVES what she does and it shows. This young lady captures what we all wish we encountered in the world. She cares about her place of employment and is the biggest reason why this place is visited by so many. Thank you Jen for sharing your time and talent with so many. You are an AMAZING instructor.
Second time coming to get permanent jewelry! Upon arrival, my friends and I were welcomed in by staff and were very welcoming to us! They gave us a breakdown of everything they offer and even had $15 off promotion for permanent jewelry! You can book online for a reservation, but we were able to do a walk in and just filled out the waiver form online. Easy process, I got another permanent bracelet and they have a good variety of chains to choose from both silver and gold!
I happened to get a targeted Instagram ad while I was visiting Oahu for The Gem Studio and wanted to give it a try! I was able to book a last minute reservation same day. Upon arrival, I was greeted by Gwen who was friendly and gave me the run down of how everything worked. I signed up for the charms workshop so first thing was choosing a chain. They have a bunch of chains (both gold and silver) to choose from ranging from $30-$120. I chose a gold filled paper clip chain for $105. The pricing also differs if you're planning on doing either a necklace or bracelet. Then you get to choose the chain length, which they have some that you can try on. I chose the 18inch which was perfect for me. Picking out the charms was the fun part! However, it gets pretty crowded and busy with people picking out their charms. This overwhelmed me a bit but I managed to pick out some cute charms. They have tons to choose from ranging from $3-$10! Once you choose your charms, they set you up at a station and show you how to add the clasps to the necklace. This was really fun even being by myself however I'm sure it would be more fun with a friend or family member. Once all my charms were added, another team member helped me with ensuring that all the clasps were good on my charms. My total came out to $160 (chain & charms)! Such a fun experience!
Daughter and I came here before heading to airport for travel home. We wanted a keepsake from Hawaii and this was perfect. Be advised that this is an appointment only business and it gets busy. Just go to their website and book your appointment. They are located on the first floor of the shopping center right by Rolex. We arrived and were able to walk right in and get our permanent jewelry in no time. The staff working was only 1 and she was great! So friendly despite having a rude customer while we were there. She greeted us and walked us through choosing a bracelet and a charm. We selected our set and she got us in and out! They were having a BOGO 50% off when we were there. Total for 2 bracelets - 1 silver 1 gold with 1 charm was around $120. They offer jewelry making classes which is pretty cool also. Something I'd like to try next time!
I did a solo trip to Hawaii and was looking for the perfect remembrance for the trip- when I came across this place! I booked my appointment and received the nicest service ever! They also had a promo going on that subtracted $15 I believe? I would definitely recommend this place! Benny is the sweetest ever!!
I randomly stumbled into the Gem Studio when I was walking around the International Market Place and ended up getting a forever anklet. I think the guy who helped me was called Matt (it's been a while so apologies if it isn't). Matt walked me thru the entire process and showed me all the available anklets in gold. He also held them against my ankle so I know what they look like against my skin. I picked what I thought looked best and Matt went to work by welding the gold anklet to my ankle! It was simple, quick, and fun! Great experience on vacation with an even more awesome souvenir to take home!
Booked an appointment for a party of two to make some pieces and it did not disappoint. The young girls working there were beyond helpful and patient. My boyfriend and I were able to make two pieces and spend time together doing so. We loved the process, the end results, and the memory that our new jewelry holds. Very thankful for the opportunity. The process is very hands on and worth what you pay in my opinion. The pricing broken down - *The booking fee is $5 per person *The fee of the project you select (ours was $95 per person - for the 2 hour class and basic materials) *The cost of the gem/s you select (located on the back of the stone or gem) I believe mine was $40
Our family booked a party for jewelry making on Christmas Eve during our staycation. Julia was our instructor, and she was AMAZING!!! In our party we did one pendant, ring stamping, and ring inlay. The gem/shell/glass selection was great! The selection to customize your piece with different accents, so many to choose from! The pricing is great, and the face that you'll have a piece you made yourself and no one else will have something like that, priceless! I purchased a loose stone to return back to make another pendant. TIP: MAKE RESERVATIONS! Otherwise if they do not have time that day, you'll chance not having a spot for class or even getting your permanent piece done. Reservations can be made easily and quickly online.
One of the great things about having friends who visit is they introduce you to places and things you would not normally do as a local. Yesterday I got invited to make silver jewelry at studio shop located on the ground floor of the International Marketplace. There is a base fee of $95 that includes instruction, basic silver & other materials, and use of the equipment. You can bring in your own stones or shells or purchase one of the many they have. Be sure to make an appointment and allot for at least 1.5 hours but possibly more. You will go through the steps of measuring, cutting, hammering, soldering, polishing, buffing, and burnishing your ring or bracelet. A unique and fun experience with a precious keepsake to take home or gift to someone special. This is a great outing for girlfriends, sisters, moms and daughters and anyone else interested in making their own jewelry. Initially I gave 5 stars because I think this is such a cool place and I want them to succeed, but I knocked off a star because it's true that it took us longer than expected. This was probably because there was only 1 person trying to help 4 of us. Also our rings came out a little bigger than anticipated. Perhaps that could have been avoided if we remeasured before soldering? I did however recommend this place to many friends who are excited to try it.
We did the pendant and ring workshop and it was so much fun! Julia was super patient and bubbly and gave us lots of time to make our pieces. We also got the permanent jewelry at the end. The overall experience was great and would for sure recommend. It did take us a while to decide to go ahead with a workshop because it is a bit pricey, but the overall experience was worth it.
My friend and I decided to learn how to make some jewelry, and I'm so glad we did! So the gem studio is located inside the international marketplace (we parked at Target and took the elevator down to the first floor). If you're coming from Target, walk straight until you see an open area to the right; it's around that corner (across from Maui Divers). Super easy to find! When we walked in, we were greeted by Jen, who happened to be our instructor as well! There are charms to pick from on the left side of the store, a table of different gems in the middle, and, to the right, a station for permanent jewelry! You'll have a base pay for what you're making, and then you'll be charged for the gems or charms when you add them on (prices are behind the gems, and charms will have a price in each of their little cubbies). My friend and I initially wanted to do the silversmith class, but we were so intrigued by the inlay, so we chose that instead! Honestly, it was super easy to make! The band has an empty center for you to crush the gems of your choosing (they offer a variety to choose from). So you crush your gems, then put a little, and I mean LITTLE, bit of resin in the empty center, place your gems on it, then cure it with the UV light and continue all around until you're done! Then you do the big curing, your artist will smooth it for you in the grinder, then you polish it by hand, then polish it on the machine! In total, it took us about an hour and a half. I honestly had so much fun and learned so much that I can't wait to do it again! All in all, my friend and I have already decided that we're coming back and trying a different project! read more

This is such a neat idea for a girls night out, self care day, or any old day! I went with my aunts, cousin, and mom and they had a blast. Three of us made sterling silver rings, one made the ring inlay, and the other opted to buy one that was on display. FYI, ring inlay takes longer than you think. So plan accordingly! We booked at 6pm and left around 8:30 pm. Like making the inlay make sure you have time allotted for that! I think the time issue seemed to be due to low staffing. It was just our instructor Ashley who had help from Emily. Ashley was a great instructor that knew what she was doing and kept the experience fun! Found out she's a mom, so makes sense she was able to juggle two groups she was teaching, man the register, and keep an eye on EVERYTHING (including being security). Emily was so sweet too! She kept up with walk in after walk in for the permeant jewelry. When she had a free hand she made sure to help Ashley. Overall, she kept a professional and fun demeanor. I think if there was more than one instructor for a shift it would balance out the responsibilities. We plan on coming back in the winter when my cousin graduates! Such a special way to mark an occasion. Please come to San Diego! I could definitely see this kind of thing becoming popular with college students in a mall like UTC. Also, adding special "gems" like sea glass or more shells to the Waikiki location would be fun. Goes with the vibe of the location! Also, lots of men came in with their wives. Cute tie clip or even cufflinks would be fun! Here's the price breakdown: - $5 per person booking fee - $95 base fee for sterling silver (ring) + $ of the gem you choose - $ any additional price your instructor will go over for you For two total of sterling silver rings it came out to around $265 including tip! read more

Just so happen to be considering buying some soldering equipment to make a pendant when I searched on google and found the Gem Studio. They have all the equipment needed and for a reasonable fee they walk you through making it yourself. I loved how it turned out and I definitely don't think I could have done it on my own at home. Brooke was our silversmith and she is very patient and kind. The store is busy but Brooke and her coworker are very friendly and professional and always welcomed guests. Our group ended up making this pendant in the photo, a ring, and a permanent bracelet. I also really appreciated that they have kama'aina discount for locals like us. read more
Visited the Gem Studio on a whim! Over the course of my vacation I had walked past by curious but thinking I would have to sign up for a workshop in advance. However I was wrong! Yesterday on a quiet Monday evening the store was fairly empty so I wandered my way in. I wanted to make a gift for my husband who hadn't joined my vacation and found out that silver rings were only $30 (this includes the process of me making it with the guidance of the instructor, any stamping I wanted to add to the ring, and sizing!). The entire process probably took around 20 minutes (I believe if you want jewelry with a stone it'll take longer. The instructor was super nice and supportive throughout the process! We started off with stamping my personalizations, hammering the metal to make it more circular, using a mini torch to seal the ring, and then buffing the ring for added shine. Some elements the instructor did herself like an acid wash and buffing the inside of the ring but for the most part you're doing most of the work with guidance which was really fun and engaging. The overall product I created is a little grunge and definitely has hand made elements to it, however for the price I thought it was a steal! $30 getting to create it myself, personalize it, vs. spending money at a kiosk for something where they do it themselves and you don't get the learning/hands on experience. read more

I had an amazing experience with Ellie! She only works on Saturday and Sunday but she was super patient and kind. I could tell how passionate she was and how much she wanted our designs to work out, definitely try to go on sat/sun just for her. My sisters and cousins went a couple days later and didn't get the same experience as I did. They weren't as satisfied with the service but still liked the outcome! read more

My husband and I came here for my birthday to get permanent jewelry. I got a necklace and he got a bracelet. They had a variety of chains to choose from in different types of metal. However, there weren't really any charms to choose from. I was hoping to get a charm since I'd be wearing this for a while. They didn't have a price list on how much the items were, but I did see it here on Yelp, so I was sort of prepared for how much I was going to be spending. It would have just been better to see it in case there was a price change. Besides that, Ashley was great! When we got there, she was doing a workshop with someone. Then there were 2 other people in front of us getting permanent jewelry. She was attentive and helpful to all of us. There was even a family who came in while she was helping the 2 other people in front of me who had a question. She did great in being professional and friendly to them and explaining their options, but still being engaged with the 2 people she was helping. After helping them, she checked in on her workshop that she was doing, but acknowledged us and apologized for the wait. Then, when it was our turn, she was very social and made sure that we were happy with the lengths we were doing. It was really quick, even though it was busy. We eventually want to comeback to do one of the workshops. read more
