Let me start by saying, This won't let me give zero stars, but that is 100% what I would like to…read moreput. Absolutley HORRENDUS service. Showed up to cut off utilities at my home at 5:00pm with ZERO notice. I was shocked as I had no idea there was any issue and wanted to help clear up a misunderstanding with payment (an incorrectly typed account number and honest mistake). The after hours cashier literally told me that the error happened YESTERDAY, so I would not have gotten a letter yet. When calling to correct the mistake of course am unable to speak to anyone since it is after 5. Finally speak to a man named George and am treated like absolute garbage and told that he would be contacting the sheriffs office for assault since my two 10 lb dogs were in my backyard behind the fence and his tech could not get in to work??? Literally had no idea someone would be going into my property so of course my SWEET TEN LB DOGS were outside in the backyard barking at a man in their driveway. George continued to debase and demean me even after I called and literally paid right then. He was intrusive and continued to question me about why my payment bounced and acting as if I was not a loyal customer literally due to a typing error. Never did he act with sympathy. I work in customer service, housing and accounting and do NOT treat my residents this way no matter their payment situation. The way this was handled was absolutely unprofessional. The way that my wife and I were spoken to was insane. If Eastern Pines Water offered electric and gas I would be switching tomorrow because GUC is the worst and people like George make a crazy situation a million times worse.

They were unable to schedule my billing to do that as a result of short coming of their computer program and request that I contact them again after my next autopay posting. Annoying that I should have to make an appt to do so.

Our disaster relief team from Los Angeles, CA (specifically Torrance) arrived on a late Saturday and some of the team was wearing our team shirts from the organization we had worked with. New Bern residents that saw us in a restaurant or other places went out of her way to say thank you to us for being there to help. Love the people, places, and the charming Bear statues everywhere. New Bern was founded in 1710 by a Swiss entrepreneur from Bern, Switzerland. Bern in Swiss means bear which is why there are many bear statues. We thank you so much for the kind hospitality. In the short time we were there, we did did our best and worked hard. We know there is still much work to be done as New Bern is one of the hardest hit cities in NC affected by the hurricane. We believe New Bern is on its way to a make an amazing comeback. We love you, New Bern! #CarolinaStrong

So much of the architectural integrity of the the central downtown area has been preserved, even highlighted, as the city has grown and spread out in a much more modern fashion. There are over 160 houses and buildings within in walking distance of the waterfront that are on the National Register, and that area contains almost 2000 crape myrtles, the city's official flower. It is a great deal of fun to walk around the downtown area, especially at night when the buildings are all lit up, especially the beautiful City Hall building. New Bern was founded in 1710 by Swiss and Palatine German immigrants, and it is the second oldest city in North Carolina to be settled by Europeans. The town was named for Bern, the capital of Switzerland, and the hometown of many of the initial settlers. The coat of arms of Bern contains the symbol of a bear, and there are brightly painted statues of bears all over the historical area of New Bern, and even an attractive little section named Bear Park.
