Carmen was a very difficult foster case. She had just had a major surgery to remove tumors from her ear canals and as a result lost her ears, developed vertigo and contracted rapid eye movements so she shook, wobbled and fell. She was a lovely and wonderful cat but I just couldn't capture her beauty on my own so I emailed Josh. He showed up the next night and spent a couple of hours with us, calmly and patiently waiting for the right moments to shoot . The results were nothing short of glamorous and beautiful. Additionally he has shot my own dork, "Jarvis P. Weasley", whose photos have since propelled him to worldwide fame! ;) Josh is talented,wonderful, patient, caring and has a tremendous amout of zeal for what he does. My cats have never looked so beautiful as they do in the pictures Josh took of them! My boyfriend and I hired him tor a private session with our six fur kids in San Mateo. He gave us basic pointers of what to do beforehand (like close the doors where the cats can hide under the bed) and the day of the shoot he captured really spectacular pictures of all of them. His calm personality helped even the shy and uncooperative cats open up. The many phone pictures I have taken of my cats through the years just don't compare to the quality and individual personality he captures in the photos. They were all postcard worthy - and I'm not just saying that because I'm partial to my babies, which I of course am. Another really cool thing is that he volunteers and takes gorgeous pictures of cats in need of homes. He had actually met a couple of my cats in years prior to our photo shoot when one was in the shelter (SFACC) and one with a rescue (Wonder Cat Rescue) and he remembered them! I can't say enough good things. Shopping for my Dad's birthday is never an easy task. He's one of those guys that reacts the same no matter what you get him. Every time I think he's going to love something and sure enough, he opens up his gift and says "hmm...thanks." He just isn't into material stuff. For his 60th, I knew we needed to change it up and think outside the box. One of my Dad's favorite things to do, is to take his dogs hiking in the open space nearby his home. Having followed Josh's "Furrtographer" page on Facebook, I thought it would be really cool to hire him to come along for a hike and take some family/puppy dog photos as a present for my Dad. I reached out to Josh, not knowing if he did people pictures too, and asked him if it was something he could do. Sure enough he said the idea sounded great and that he was in. He was very quick to respond and was able to work with our calendar. The day of, Josh arrived right on time. We told my Dad what the surprise was and sure enough he reacted in an unsure fashion. But we headed out anyways and started hiking. Josh shot pictures of my parents, individuals of the dogs, group shots of the dogs, whole family shots including the fur babies, and action shots of us hiking and the pups playing. We had a blast and Josh fit in just like he was part of the family. He was game for any shot we wanted to take, had great suggestions, and had a genuine positive energy, which was a joy to be around! At the end of the hike, my Dad said he had a blast and couldn't wait to see the pics. Success! We got the pics a week later and could not have been happier with them! He really captured the fun of the day, as well as the dog's individual personalities. My Mom has already asked when we can do it again. I have been a huge fan of Josh's photography. And when my husband surprised me with a session for out two little ones I was so stoked! Josh was as great of a person as I had imaged. He was very personable, super polite & patient with our cats. My husband is also into photography so Josh took the time to explain his techniques and show him the different lenses he would use to get different effects. First off, if there was an option to give a 6 or even 10 star rating on Josh, that's where I would put him. What brought us to him was noticing the amazing photos he volunteers to do for the Animal Care and Control SF shelter so they can hopefully get adopted. I did not know this until I met with him personally but he also does volunteer photo work for other rescues as well including cats with special needs (eg. blind/handicap/etc) AND he has two rescue pets of his own. That made my heart melt even more. We wanted to support someone who is passionate about helping rescue animals get adopted. He took amazing photos of our fur babies Nahla, Gatsby and Daisy (1 dog/2 cats). He was incredibly patient with them (and with us humans too trying to assist!). He gave us pointers how to get those special action shots that I think he is famous for. We never felt rushed or "on the clock" for the whole session. He was flexible about which animals to photograph and responds like lightening to emails, always keeping us updated as well on the process. His turn around to get photos to you are also super quick as we got some sample shots within 1 day and the whole photo package within 1 week. As with any professional photographer, the prices are not cheap but so worth it as he gives you access to all the final photos (priced on resolution/size) based on what package you buy (3 tiers from $500 to $1000, only $100 for each additional pet). This allows us to have all the photos stored in our internet cloud and print as we please when we want to. I really like this as some photographers will take photos but not give you the files. With them, you have to buy individual hard copies/canvas prints directly from them... which ends up sometimes being more expensive in the end. Wow, Josh is way better than advertised!! Unfortunately, our older girl GoldenDoodle, Ginger has developed, high grade canine lymphoma, so this was a bitter sweet experience. We've been looking for a photographer to do a photoshoot for our furkids for a while now and we just never found someone that we really like, until I found Josh through an article that talks about all the wonderful rescue work he does. Josh takes pro bono photographs of animals around Bay Area shelters so that they have a higher chance in getting adopted. Our family is very big on "Adopt! Don't Shop!!" and since our babies were also adopted, having Josh do the photo shoot made the perfect sense. Josh took amazing photos of our babies and we had tons of fun working with him. You can see how happy our dogs are and how much they enjoyed working with Josh through the photos. Josh was even able to work with me to have the session done on my birthday, so it was extra special. I told Josh that I wanted a more secluded area in Golden Gate Park to have the pictures taken, and he was able to respond with a location right away. And when we got there that day and it was packed with people, he was able to come up with a new location right away!! Our dogs are not very easy to take photos of, and that's why we needed a professional to do it! They don't really respond to squeaky toys and they kind of crouch down when they walk, so Josh actually had to lay on muddy grounds in order to get the best shot of them, talk about dedication!! Josh is truly wonderful and we all had a wonderful time doing the photoshoot, so if you ever want a wonderful experience and lasting memories with you and your furkids, please hire Josh as you photographer (or should I say Furrtographer). Three words: Josh is amazing. Through the My Mutt program at Pet Food Express, Josh photographed my six-month-old puppy. Thank dog this all happened the week before daylight saving time ended, because otherwise dragging ourselves to the Golden Gate Bridge at sunrise would have just been ugly. Josh was incredibly sweet with the puppy and very patient as she did puppy things like chase a mastiff, go the other direction when I called her, and take a poop in the middle of the photo shoot. And the photos are incredible. He framed them perfectly -- adorable puppy in the foreground doing puppy things, super-fabulous Golden Gate Bridge in the background. When I told him we'd love to do the session by the bridge he said that we'd have to go really early to get the best light, and he was 100% correct. The color and light in the photos are just spectacular. I recommend Josh without reservation, and I'll definitely be in touch with him again when it's time for more photos of the pup. read more

Josh is the best. I wanted a portrait of my very old and very beloved cat Badger before I lost the chance or she lost any of her vibrance. I really liked Josh's work when I checked out his website and also I could tell from the pictures and his bio that he really understood cats as well as dogs. I also appreciated that he got back to me so quickly when I inquired about a session and that he posts all the info you want, including pricing, openly on his site instead of making you ask. He did a fantastic job on the photos of Badger. She's actually kind of a ragamuffin, but she looks like a glamour puss in the pics (but still totally like herself), and he was amazingly adept at capturing her eyes. My sweet Maltese Bliss developed congestive heart failure and at that time we were two years into it. Bliss was getting tired. My husband and I hired Josh for a private session of photography with our two cats and I am so glad we did it! Josh came all of the way over to San Jose, showed up exactly when he said he would, and spent over an hour taking photos--he willingly stayed a little longer than he originally intended because he wanted to try to photograph our second kitty, even though we told him he didn't need to. (The second kitty has a few issues. :) He ended up with some really amazing shots, which is incredibly hard to do when dealing with a solid black cat who doesn't like to be around people she doesn't know. Josh is friendly, professional, and patient--our kitties are not the most social of animals and he did good job of getting them engaged. I can't speak highly enough about Josh. I have an all black dog who is extremely hard to photograph and Josh did an AMAZING job. I reached out another per photographer based on yelp reviews to assist me in an elaborate plan of staging a photo shoot that was in actuality a proposal involving my dog that I wanted captured via photography. The photographer I reached out to wasn't available the date I wanted to have the photo shoot, so he referred me to Josh, and I am so glad he did! Josh was super easy to work with and very responsive. He was just as excited about the proposal. We talked on phone and even met a few days before to rehearse and make sure everything went smoothly. Josh was very attentive and thinking several steps ahead to ensure all went according to plan. He woke up early the day of and tracked the weather because SF was due to get some rain. Fortunately, with Josh's experience we were able to still have the photo shoot and execute according to plan despite the rainfall a few hours before the shoot. I have a big, energetic hound dog, and I had been wanting to get some good pictures of him and me at Fort Funston where we spend many happy hours. Our selfies were not very good. I attended the Mighty Mutt fundraiser in San Francisco and won a photography package from Josh the Furrtographer in the silent auction. I didn't have really high expectations, but was happy when he agree to do the shoot at Fort Funston. My dog is excitable and runs around a lot so I was worried that I would have to make him pose which would be difficult and the pictures would come out artificial-looking. NOT!!! Josh had his camera equipment in a backpack and he ran all over the hills with my dog, taking pictures of him running, jumping, and howling in the most natural way. I couldn't believe it!
