This is a great place to find bargains on gently used kids cloths, toys and accessories. They also have a few new items hand made, some are a bit pricey but cute and if you can afford it unique. The staff is always friendly and willing to help and tell you about upcoming special sales, they also have frequent shopper cards that earn you something special. Here's something I've learned about parenting: when your kid is screaming and crying, it's so much more pleasant if they look cute while doing it. That sounds shallow, but seriously, it's true. So my wife and I like to dress our son in clothes that we think are super cute just to take the edge off the terrible twos (he's not two yet, but he throws truly terrible tantrums). The only downside is the clothes that we think are cute are EXPENSIVE, so we shop at thrift stores. I believe The Funky Monkey recently changed owners, so that may explain why they had decals in the window with brands like Hannah Andersen and Janie and Jack but they had no higher-end clothes in my son's size, except for a few Gap and Old Navy outfits, which don't hold up as well. They had one outfit by Gymboree, but it was totally fuzzy and looked uncomfortable. They had a toy section, but it was just some stuff in the middle of the store blocked off by baby gates. I couldn't tell if it was ok for me to go look at the toys, but there really weren't many, so I didn't deal with potential awkwardness of climbing the fence if I wasn't supposed to. After not really finding anything, I went to the counter to ask if they had any other clothes in my son's size that I may be missing, and the owner/manager and cashier were talking about something work-related. I waited for a few seconds for the owner to finish her sentence, but she just kept talking. After about 30 seconds of awkwardly waiting, I just turned around and left since it really didn't look like they had anything that would work. I've also heard through the grapevine that they don't pay a high percentage of the sales price to the consignor, so maybe people who have higher-end clothes are taking them to other stores in the area. read more

I love this store! Most times I go in with a gift need and walk out with more than I bargained for because of so many cute things from clothes, home decor, nick nacks or gifts. Less resale; more boutique. I used to like this store especially for children's resale clothes for holidays. But it has recently changed and half the store now is now gifts: monogrammed items, silly headbands, even home decor. I'm surprised...Friendswood doesn't need another frou-frou gift boutique! The boys section is minuscule and the plus-size section is gone. If you're looking for children's resale, look elsewhere...Small Changes in League City and Lollipop in Pearland are better. This is one of my favorite shops in this area- very gently used to brand new clothing and various other treasures all at excellant prices- no one ever knows that I shop resale. Ive been here many times over the past 3 years and NEVER had a bad experience with owner or staff- they are all very kind and treat me with respect and my children have always felt comfortable searching thru the store. I would keep my kids inline with the choices of the behavior in public so that nobody else would feel uncomfortable. Do Not Shop Here! Staff members were rude and almost annoyed that folks with small children were in the store. This is a resale shop - not a fine china showroom!! Of course folks with small children want to feel comfortable shopping anywhere! Everything is pricey except the older items and the dusty junk. My daughter and I left our items behind because of one of the staff members making loud, rude comments about the folks shopping. I will never give my hard earned $$ to a large or small retail shop where rude employees roam. read more

I have been to the Funky Monkey many times and each and every SINGLE time the staff is rude. Not one single time in over 5 visits has anyone even said "hello" "hi and welcome" "they have not even looked at me or made eye contact!" Twice now I looked right back at them and said say loudly "HELLO HOW ARE YOU" they look at me like I grew a third head and say hello back and quickly return to whatever they were doing. My last visit was literally 2 days ago and I received the same treatment and there were literally 3-4 women working behind the counters. Come on... not one woman could say welcome?!?!?!? I walk in, I touch things, look at things and many times with a friend or family member with me we converse about a particular item "wondering" about the sizing, or the price, or if there are more being made and NEVER not once has anyone ever bothered to chime in with helpful advice. Just 2 days ago my husband and I were back and forth on a $40.00 outfit but we were unsure if the sizing was right and we talked right next to the register and not one time did anyone say anything. It seems they rather be anywhere but there. It is sad that I rather drive another half hour to the other side of League City to Small Changes Kids to shop for the only reason of great customer service. They know your name, they say hello when you walk in, they are helpful, and they at the very very very least acknowledge you exist by telling you to please ask them for help if you have any questions. Sadly I am not the only one who has seen the very poor customer service at Funky Monkey either, per the other reviews, you would think since many are over a year old that the management would consider maybe a training program or at the very least finding new staff that can at the very very very minimum say "hi and thank you for visiting." read more
