I have to say im a little bit in love with the Full Moon. Which means I may be somewhat biased in my opinions of this brilliant establishment. The Full Moon bar and backpackers hostel is very convieniently located next to the St James Barton r-about making it an ideal starting point for a night out in town or glos rd. It does have to be said though it is a wee bit rough around the edges. If your used to fancy pants cocktail louges with lots of lovely decor and well dressed patrons, you may feel a little uncomfortable here. The decor is definitely shabby chic ! Miss matched chairs and tables inside. Lots of seating and some fine graffiti on the outside. But the Full Moon aint about the decor and all that jazz. Its about the socialising the music and the atmosphere and this place does it all very well. They also have very friendly bar and door staff who are very easy going ! Come here on a sunny afternoon and grab a table outside and pint of Stowford Press and you'll be in heaven. Well you'll be in my heaven anyway, which is ok I promise ! Pint prices are reasonable at 3.50 ish. Food is available. But I have to admit ive only ever had a pizza here. And that was good, but little overpriced and a bit tight portion wise. However they also have a habit of putting on some fantastic live music and djs an a Saturday evenings and bank holidays. The only reason I dont give this a five star is because the toilets are not the best and could do with a bit of a refurb. But if your the type of person who enjoys a good festival and doesn't mind a bit of rough you'll love it here as much as I do...

The Full Moon and Attic Bar had such great promise when it opened. Situated within spitting distance of the bus station in the middle of town, with a tremendous amount of scope to do all kinds of original stuff, it looked like it was set to become a popular regular haunt to many. It's got everything; a massive bar with seating for food, beautiful enclosed courtyard that's bigger than centre court at Wimbledon, a separate 200+ capacity dedicated music venue, and an 90 odd bed independent hostel. Sadly, the project seemed ill-fated from the beginning. The owners ran into financial problems during the process of converting the buildings into what it is today, leaving no spare cash to invest in events once the place opened. Nevertheless, things seemed to go well for a few months. Inexpensive bands played to massive crowds that spilled out into the courtyard. I even went to one night where people were standing on windowsills outside trying to catch the band. But after the initial surge, numbers began to dwindle away and the place seemed to lose its footing in the process. Since the launch its gone through a series of different identities, but none of them have really stuck. Now that places like Canteen have opened up the road, posing a greater threat to its survival than ever before, I don't know what will become of the place. I walked past the other day, and there was no-one in the courtyard, even though it was sunny. Conversely, Canteen was brimming over with people.

Now The Full Moon itself is quite a cool place to hang out on a nigh out in the city, sat right at the bottom of Stokes Croft it is on the gate way to one of the greatest pub crawl roads in the UK. Now, even better is that you can stay here in The Full Moon's Backpackers Hostel (i'm not suggesting exsisting Bristolians should shell out cash to stay here for the night because i mean just go stay in your bed, this review is for those visiting our city!) where beds start at a very reasonable price of £16:50 pppn. The hostel boasts an array of facilities for it's guests including: Self Catering Kitchen Laundry Facilities TV Room Internet Access Restaurant Twin Rooms As well as thos guests can enjoy all the other delights that The Full Moon has to offer as a bar/pub where you are always likely to find DJs spinning out tunesw or Live Music from an array of Bristol's thriving music scene, as well as acts from further afield. This is greatly located hostel which I would recommend to any backpacker!

The Attic Bar is a very nice venue for bands with very friendly people and a great sound system. I saw local psychedelic noise boys The Heads here and the sound was as good as I have heard in this country. The engineer took lots of trouble to get it right. Everyone at the venue was very helpful and the bar staff were very efficient. A decent selection of booze with the accent on organics on a lot of the stuff - wine particularly.

Weekends are dominated by tribute nights, which can be fun if you get the right one, while up-and-coming acts vie for your attention during the week, when there are also cheap drinks offers early in the night. The floor is paved with flag stones, convenient if you spill your drink! Probably easier to keep in a decent state with the dancing and moshing that goes on here too. It's on the circuit for small bands trying to get a break. That means the odd act that will be topping the charts in a few years time and not a few bands that definitely won't It's a good space for a band to play, perhaps not quiet enough for singer songwriter type acts. The drinks on offer here aren't too badly priced (and a lot cheaper than the O2 academy, which also has a very dire range on offer, thanks to the corporate sponsorship). Things tend to be a bit calmer here too. Although this might just be because it's not such a big place. A gig here generally gets going towards the end, and their will be the risk of crowddivers falling on you, but I've never been there when things get out of control. If you like live music have a look for a band you know (or a tribute to them) and get a ticket for a good night.

I love it here for a multitude of reasons, but this is one of the main ones. They serve excellent beers at reasonable prices and there's a skittle ally in the back room. All of the skittles are unique, with some being twice as fat as some of the others. The markings dictating where the skittles should be placed are too far apart, making the game unfeasibly difficult, (but this doesn't bother me as I always cheat). The place is decorated in some artfully applied kitsch, and there's a bunch of feisty women serving behind the bar most of the time, who are generally up for a chat as long as they're not too busy. There's a great walled garden that can get incredibly noisy, and an upstairs room with distinctly different look and feel to the downstairs section. I'm unsure what this place serves (probably private hire?), as it has only ever been sparsely used when I've been there, even thought he downstairs has been heaving.

While perhaps not being a pub to which you should make the journey from other parts of Bristol, it's a solid local establishment serving the chatty residents of BS2. It has loads of different areas, including the famous skittles alley, and the much-loved covered back garden which has several large picnic tables to accommodate large groups and smokers. The main ground floor areas inside are cosy, lit with strings of fairy lights. Upstairs, find a space that could be somewhere else completely; with chic low sofas and tables, and art on the walls, it feels more like an upmarket city centre bar. Odd to have such separate areas with distinct atmospheres, maybe, but good to have the options all in one place. When walking through dark local St Werburgh's streets looking for the place, keep your eyes peeled for the splendid exterior covered in graffiti, and listen out for the happy chatter from the smokers in the pub garden.

It couldn't be much more different to the other pubs/bars that it's close to. You can tell from the outside exactly what it'll be like inside; a traditional English, old mans pub. It is actually a really refreshing pub to go and hide away from the horribleness of the waterfront on a Friday or Saturday night. I went on Saturday night for the first time in well over a year. I'd been drinking wine with a meal before hand, so deiced to stick to that; £8 a bottle! Boom! Drinks wise you'll find your bog standard draught lagers, ciders and ales and the usual top shelf suspects. Nothing out of the ordinary here. Apart from a few of the punters - eeeek! Don't make eye contact! If they have eyes, that is! With pub going out of business left right and centre, I can't see this one any time soon. It's serves it's purpose well!

And if that day is a Wednesday you get a free drink with said meal! Bargain.
