This is one of the buildings in the old IBM complex that is in serious need of renovation and could stand to get some use. Glad to see some of the space is starting to be refurbished and getting some occupancy after years of being vacant. I was invited to attend a Thursday "happy hour" to celebrate some recent transactions at our office. As such, I ended up getting a short tour of the building. The "per office" rate actually seems reasonable for the small guy who only wants an office or three. Note - rates SEEM like class A office space rates (when you do the math to get the /sq-ft rate) being charged for space that needs a facelift. However, the space comes with several perks (listed by the ownership under the buisness page) which might otherwise have to be paid out of pocket by a company leasing space elsewhere, it easily balances out the difference between the value of Class A to Class B rates for the office space. I'm really not sure what to think of the event/venue space itself the way it currently stands. The space itself seems outdated, despite some of it being freshly painted, it really needs a modern upfit. Office space is also somewhat out of date, but it seems much more functional than the event/venue space. I'm not sure I like the idea of using the overpass hallway as an event venue; that space is very narrow, with little to no airflow with other cosmetic and water intrusion issues. The Thursday "happy hour" is enticing - who can object to free beer and pizza, socializing and networking? The space that houses the happy hour is interesting - exercise equipment is scattered throughout, it's artsy and someone seems to have a green thumb that also adds to the ambiance. Almost everywhere there seems to be a place to sit down and plug in.

This place is absolutely incredible!!! They offer free WiFi and a free workspace to any and all. There are so many different seating options. They have something for everyone! I like to study in a cubicle because I am easily distracted, they offer that. They have big comfy chairs, cushy couches, large tables for group, small tables, secluded areas, areas out in the open, high top tables, glass tables. Everything! They offer any type of workspace you could possibly need. They even have private conference rooms that you can reserve in advance. They have a grab and go snack area where you can purchase drinks, sandwiches, chips, granola bars, even ice cream. They have clean bathrooms. They have a calendar of events on their website and have food trucks on site every day for lunch. You can even take your dog with you! They provide dog beds! Last time I was there Bojangles and Starbucks randomly showed up for everyone. Free food and coffee! On Thursday nights they have a local brewery come in and everybody gets free beer. Free beer!!! This place is the greatest!! You have to check it out for yourself! I cannot believe that it's free and open to anyone. I'd absolutely pay to go there.

The kitchen was fully stocked with Klondike Bars and other ice cream treats, plus frozen and un-frozen candy bars, jars of goodies including gumballs, gummy bears, peanut M&Ms, a display of pastries, donuts and bagels, string cheeses, water, OJ, coffee. It felt a lot like Yelp HQ -- except lacking an essential keg and some Kettle Chips. And punchy atmosphere. And employees that look like they came out of an Abercrombie ad. But okay, kitchen aside, I was still impressed. The staff at the Center got up to help me navigate my way around the labyrinth of meeting rooms. The rooms themsleves are varied, so you can have a more intimate roundtable or a formal lecture. Most of the audience seating has outlets for keeping our important laptops and blackberries and iPads and all that jazz juiced up. There's outdoor seating for your lunch or private phone call needs. And the indoor bistro area is by some big, bright windows, which helped me recharge after being holed up in a conference room for an hour. Can't give a full 5 stars since I've never dealt with these guys on renting the space and all those logistics. But I can say they handled the day-of conference beautifully. Meeting rooms were all labeled with their proper sessions, and there's even an electronic board outside the elevators that updates itself with what's happening where. Definitely consider it for your conferencing needs!

Their customer service is extremely frustrating. No one you deal with on a day to day basis can help you, it's "company policy". Their "customer service department" is actually just their finance department which is very weird. However after much frustration, a nasty yelp review, many calls and emails - I ended up being able to reach the regional manager who was able to help me. They did in fact allow me out of my contract (I had to cancel with three months notice which was fine). I am happy with the end result but i maintain that their policy needs to change and they need to seriously work on their customer service.

You can find much better services elsewhere. The staff is useless and the business policies are deceptive. If you don't have any other options and decide to contract with them make sure that you ask about the auto renew policy as well as the close out fees which will be in excess of a thousand dollars when you terminate your contract. Get everything in writing, absolutely everything. Do not take the center manager's word for anything. Avoid regus at all costs.

The ballroom that we utilized is spacious with multiple tables and chairs and enough room for a dance floor and/or stage. The venue was nicely decorated and had festive decorations such as large Christmas trees and lights inside. There were also beautiful chandeliers inside of the ballroom. Water, salad dressing, butter, and rolls were on our table and we were served salads. The servers were really friendly and helpful. The food was served to us buffet style by the staff and it was good. One of my my favorites was the bbq salmon topped with corn. I had never had salmon prepared this way but all of the flavors came together nicely. I would def consider hosting an event here or recommending someone contact this business to host their event at this venue.

I was denied entry into Deke's (the ground floor bar and restaurant) "Because I was wearing a T-shirt, which didn't meet the new dress code". I looked in disbelieve at that moment, to see two gentlemen actually wearing T-shirts, at which time I asked to speak to the manager. The lady fired back, "I AM the manager", at which time I asked to speak to a higher level manager, as two others were wearing T-shirts. She resisted to get the higher level manager, and continued to argue that that was their new dress code, at which time I asked again to speak "to the higher level manager". She resisted again, so I asked again. She then replied, "Don't yell at me", which was a fabrication, and went to get the Food and Beverage Director. She was obviously angry because I asked to speak to the higher level manager. The Food and Beverage Director came (David), he looked disheveled, in a 1950s suit, Beard also disheveled, and he had a strange odor. By his behavior, it was clear he was informed that I had "yelled" at the other lady, in her words, as his attitude was as bad as his appearance. He asked if I, "was a member", of which I said I was. I gave him both my name and my wife's name. He then looked up the wrong name, and exclaimed to everyone in the club that I was, "NOT a member". This was found to be false an hour later, when my wife called back in to check on why they claimed the membership was not correct. He didn't look up my name or my wife's name correctly, saying we must not have paid the membership bill, in front of the other members. It was a complete fail. It got even worse. At that point, I pointed out the 2nd patron who was wearing a T-shirt, the Food and Beverage Manager grabbed my right shoulder to escort me out (after telling everyone in earshot I was not a member, which he was incorrect). I couldn't believe it. I shoved him back, told him not to make physical contact with me. I was asked to depart the club, which I did, with my two hungry toddlers. The Food and Beverage Director, who must weigh 250 lbs, continued to provoke and follow me in close proximity, even after I was outside. I did an about face, and told him not to invade my space, and that he was a fat man who should not be following me so closely. He then backed away. I must admit, I should have have called him a fatso, as it had nothing to do with his incompetence or his bad hygiene. I took hit personally, while pushing a baby carriage out of the restaurant, with two hungry toddlers. Brier Creek has been known in the RDU area to be a C-grade club by many professionals, but since their last General Manager passed away unexpectedly, they've really gone down hill to a D-grade club. Try the other clubs in Raleigh and Durham, if you want to go to a place that has competent and courteous personnel. In summary, they don't enforce their dress code equally, and turned me away, saying I was not a member, with two hungry babies, because of a T-shirt, while two other patrons were wearing T-shirts. Some history: I had contacted the Club Manager, Stefan Russell, in a private meeting a few months prior to this incident, to politely let him know the service in Deke's was horrible after waiting 15 minutes for a server. I explained to him that I had worked 15 years as a server in restaurants. He was polite and courteous, and we discussed his being from Europe. It crossed my mind, this might have been why the floor manager, a short woman, may have initially denied me entry, even though two other men were sitting near the front desk, also wearing T-shirts. She had no explanation of why they were wearing T-shirts, however I was being denied entry. The Club Manager, Doug Anderson, obviously doesn't know how to select or train managers at Brier Creek Country Club. For this reason, I predict there will be a continued subpar experience for the members of Brier Creek Country Club.
