I…read morehave family in the area and even when it's a fast trip I ALWAYS make some time to explore this amazing store. This is what I would call a pretty standard Mexican import shop. While meandering through narrow hallways and their vast outdoor garden space, you're going to discover everything from wool blankets, day of the dead sculptures, hand painted pottery, margarita glasses, and more. I usually make a point of finding something new for my garden when I come through and this last trip we came home with not only some really cool wall art for the inside of our home, but also a fun hand painted ceramic pumpkin to put lights in for this fall. The cherry on top of it all is how kind the folks are that work here. My mom would say you should always negotiate the price, she loves a good bargain! BUT, they really do have very reasonable prices. There is a sister shop in Manitou that I think is about as good as this one, but this place has a special place in my heart. Final pro tip is if you have small children either keep a very close eye on them or leave them with your partner while you explore. It's really easy for a child to either get lost running around or run into something and break it. My nephew once broke something and while they were very understanding my sister did walk out buying more than she had bargained for to make up for it!

Unfortunately, the experience went downhill fast. I took a couple of photos (as many people do when they find something they like), and the man working there immediately yelled "no photos in my shop." No explanation, just a harsh tone that felt completely unnecessary and unwelcoming. I understand small shops have their own rules--but how you communicate them matters. Especially in a tourist town like Manitou Springs, where positive interactions drive business. After that interaction, we left. Out of curiosity, I checked reviews and noticed a pattern--it's not the shop people have an issue with, it's the way customers are treated. To top it off, I found the same tea online for $9.99. Didn't even get the chance to see what they were charging in-store. Bottom line: great concept, but customer service makes or breaks the experience--and this one missed the mark.

The store has three levels and large beach windows on both ends, only one side allows entrance. I had been looking for a Colorado enamel pin to add to my collection and with so much merchandise, this particular gift shop caught my eye. I was greeted by a nice woman when I entered. She was at the ice cream station that is located on the lowest level of the shop. She was friendly! The store has a lot to offer! They have a large variety of merchandise. There is coffee, birthstones, t-shirts, key chains, stuffed animals, post cards, etc. I found my enamel pin which was at the second level and I didn't bother looking at the third. From what I recall the third level had more house decor, the other two had souvenirs and smaller gifts. The store is well organized. For the amount of items they sell, they utilize their space very well. There is plenty of walking space and if there were to be a crowd, it wouldn't be a problem at all. I purchased my Colorado enamel pin which was $3 or so. It was simple and I'll have it with me forever! My shopping experience went very well and I went to three other gift shops, this one was the best one!

Browsing the vast collection of turquoise and other stones and pieces of jewelry we asked about White Buffalo. Michael showed us a raw mined chuck of White Buffalo of which he explained how he could craft into a pendant to fit on my wife's Navajo necklace. Velez Galleries went above and beyond to create a truly special pendant. Michael's exceptional service and professionalism made the entire experience unforgettable, entertaining and educational. We were particularly impressed with how Michael took the time to explain where White Buffalo was mined and how he could transform a raw stone into a beautifully crafted pendant. This one-of-a-kind piece is something my wife will treasure forever. Needless to say, Christmas shopping was extended for one more day and we walked out of Velez Galleries with a new pendant and earrings. Give them a call or stop by, not only do they create the most amazing jewelry on site but they do repair work as well as buy selected items from the public.

The person (owner?) who helped my was very gracious and patient, allowing me to take many different items out of the case and look at them under different lighting, even taking them outside in the sunlight. Eventually I took several pictures of the ones I thought my wife liked and texted them to her to see what she thought (there goes the surprise!). We narrowed it down to a particular necklace. The owner then threw in a couple of earrings I was looking at as well that matched the necklace! My wife was VERY pleased with what I got her, quite unique. We plant to return and purchase more. I like how the jewelry is handmade and of stones and materials that are not as common. I highly recommend!

It's a cool peek into how folks lived back then, and there's no shortage of vintage eye candy. Some items are clearly marked with "Do Not Touch" signs. One wasn't--so naturally, my curious son gave it a go to see how it worked. A staff member walked by and, instead of gently redirecting, chose to loudly scold him in front of others. It was uncomfortable and felt a little over the top for a kid just being curious. Not exactly a warm, educational moment. We moved on quickly--but not before one of us made sure to gently touch one more thing, for good measure. The shooting gallery was a hit with the kids. Change machines are a surprisingly nice convenience. Gold panning? Fun to try, but we struck out. Informative movie? Worth sitting for. Gift shop? Cool stuff, but brace for sticker shock. All in all, it's worth a stop if you're into Old West history, but a little more grace from staff would go a long way in keeping the experience fun--especially for families.

If you feel adventurous you can likely try to get the price lower as my mom often does as she barters with the sales folks. This last trip we took home a pink flamingo bird house for our small collection, and also learned a tip from the staff working regarding preserving the metal outdoor artworks.
