The rooms are comfortable and the air conditioning is excellent. Their wi-fi is fast and very reliable. The breakfast was delicious and the service was excellent. I am a very light sleeper, so I did notice the street noise from an active area in any type of city. My wife and couple we were travelling with had no problems. But to be this close to everything, this was a non-issue for me because the B&B and location are really top-notch. If you want the best of all worlds when staying in the old San Juan area, this is the place to be.

The room is so cute and clean, and it is walking distance to so many shops, bars, and restaurants. Breakfast each morning was delicious and didn't ever leave me hungry (bowl of fresh fruit and coffee and juice). Next time we want to visit San Juan, we will definitely stay here again! They also suggested a couple other b&bs to visit (Casa Flamboyant and Dos Aguas--make sure to check them out, too!) ***PRO TIP: If you intend on being in San Juan for more than a day, I HIGHLY recommend not having a car until you decide to leave and explore other parts of the Island. Everything is walking distance so there's no need to drive (or you can Uber). If you absolutely have to pick up your rental car right off the bat, you will have to park you car overnight in a garage or a lot. There is a $3/day lot that is a little bit of a walk, near the National Guard base. Drop off your luggage with someone in your party and they'll check in, and you should park your car there.

We were…read morestranded at Ponce Airport past midnight with taxis trying to price gouge us for the short ride $50+ (and I'm from Puerto Rico, spoke in Spanish with local slang and everything). We called and he sent out a local taxi for us (was $35, cash only). We arrived and quickly checked in. It went downhill from there. ATM withdrawal for the cash for the taxi? Machine fee was over $7 (like $7.45?!?!)!! Once checked in...the room was so dirty overall. Very patch wiped if anything. Either the air conditioning filter has never been changed or the rooms have never been properly deep cleaned after PETS staying. Started sneezing and eyes painfully itching uncontrollably almost immediately. Carpet was FILTHY as well -- we saw crumbs of random things by the desk and the room. My allergies got so bad I could barely keep my eyes open -- they were so bloodshot and itchy, I was crying and couldn't wait to be able to leave. Sneezing nonstop too. But by then it was past 1:30 AM already -- hotel is on a high isolated hill and no transportation nor lodging options nearby. To get ready for bed and crash so the nightmare could finally pass, I at least wanted to take a shower. Oh man, bathroom was even worse. I didn't dare shower. You can see the dirty tub and toilet in my photos here. We were so exhausted and upset at that point we didn't even take other room photos. No breakfast included on a Holiday Inn - also new to us. We left as soon as our tired bodies allowed us to. Took photos of the view on our way out. Sad, because the pool and area looked beautiful. Hotel had good bones too, but clearly bad management and NOT the IHG standard we are used to. We will never stay here again and will never fly into Ponce Airport again either. We couldn't believe our eyes...

We booked the "run of the house" deal so we didn't get to choose our room, but we totally lucked out and got assigned the Tropicalia suite. The suite was SO cool - intimate, thoughtfully decorated, and stylish. We had our own dedicated LARGE outdoor space and the outdoor shower was so fun! The food at the hotel was excellent. We are vegetarian so the all-veggie/vegan menu was a huge plus for us. We had breakfast there a few days and also walked around the neighborhood (felt very safe!) and explored local restaurants. The matcha latte at Dreamcatcher is honestly, to date, probably top 3 best matchas I've ever had. Super smooth! All of the staff at the hotel were incredibly nice and accommodating. Overall this was a unique, memorable stay in a super cool area, with easy beach access and easy access via car to the rest of PR if desired. Located in the heart of Puerto Rico and near the World's Largest Radio Telescope Arecibo Observatory, TJ Ranch was and is a welcoming place. Tony and Joan welcomed us and showed us to our cabin. It's a hide away like non other. TJ Ranch is a family owned business and very private. We walked past their house, past the pool, past the big restaurants to the back of the land towards the cabins. The scenery is breath taking. They are in the valley of this 40 acres of tropical plants and wild life. Tony is also the chef and he serves up some of the most traditional dishes and a few dishes with a twist that are delicious!!! They made us feel so welcomed that we didn't want to leave. They helped us with our daily trips exploring this paradise island. Since they are located in the center, it allowed for us to explore more of the north, west and south coast near the towns of Arecibo, Hatillo, Camuy, Lares, Islabela, Moca, Cobo Rojo, Guinca, Ponce, Jayuya, and etc. Well worth the drive. We had a great time and ever since when we plan our trips to Puerto Rico we almost always make an effort to stay at TJ Ranch for a few days. They are wonderful people and so giving. They were always there to give us toilet paper when we ran out and answer our questions. We didn't get to see them much since we were out and about, but the few times we did they were delightful. -There was a delicious restaurant (Kasalta) and beach (Ocean Park Beach) within walking distance. -Though the area wasn't the best, the gates all locked and only the guest had a key to unlock the gates and enter the premesis. -The rooms and beds were comfortable and the air conditioning worked very well. -The hot tub was delightful, warm, and a great place to relax. The not so good: -The area was a little sketchy. People hanging out on street corners and playing loud music all night. -The air coniditioning was a bit TOO cold, even when we had the knob switched to "off". But I'm sure if you just ask them to help with making this more comfortable, they will. -There was limited parking and one time, we had to park a block down on the sketchy, dark street. The other nights though, we got there just in time to see another guest pulling out so we could take their spots. Overall, we liked this guest house a lot. The area does seem a little scary, but right down the street a few miles is San Cristobal and Old San Juan. It is also very close to its own little beach. If you stay here you must eat at Kasalta and get one of the delicious sandwiches and a sweet treat too!

TV was not working so they move us to the 4th floor were the fridge was not working. You have to get naked outside in the room with no privacy in order to get inside the shower, very uncomfortable. Breakfast was good and they were friendly. At all the establishments, the waiters does not serve you at the same time. My plate was first and 10 minutes later the other person that was with me that order at the same time receive the food. Hard Rock inside has a promotion of a frier free of gluten and the waiter when we ask him said that they don't. Later on we discover that he was just lazy enough to not even ask another employee regarding this.

I sold part of my soul to Marriott, so am familiar with their banners. This didn't seem like an Aloft. It is styled like a Moxy, both in the room and in the hotel. First, I always associated Aloft with business travel, and that is not right for a place with a casino and a Hard Rock Cafe in Ponce. The location is isolated by highway from the beach, Ponce, and everything else. Our room was weird; we didn't have a bath-ROOM. You walk in the room, and there is a sink and a shower. The bath isn't a separate room. There's a bulletin board. It's weird. The casino is odd; a low ceilinged affair on the second floor. It was mostly slots, with one blackjack table, but with a $5 minimum (which I liked!). The bar serves beer, drinks in plastic cups, and some kind of soup or stew, which is weird for a casino. The rooftop bar is nice, with inland views. Our room was on the 3rd floor, which included a window into the ground floor. Unfortunately the ground floor was hosting an engagement party, which featured loud music until 1am. Our room was also above some kind of work area on the second floor (where the casino is), like maybe the laundry or a kitchen. This work area became loud and active at about 5am, with workers shouting at each other over the noise. So, what do we have so far - a weird location, a weird room, a ghetto casino, and a ton of noise through most of the night. The GOOD news is that the place cheap and the rooftop bar was cool. Would I recommend for everyone? No. This is not the place for most travelers. It was OK for me but I am a glutton for punishment who loves a good deal.
