The Flats, or Des Connor Park as it is officially known, is a large block of land owned by Marist College Ashgrove. Depending on the time of year the park is usually filled with kids playing rugby, soccer, AFL or cricket. When there isn't an official game being played, however, the fields are open for anyone to use and they generally get a pretty good work out. Given the large amount of room available the Flats are able to accommodate large groups of people and you will never feel short of space. Intended to be used primarily as playing fields this is not the place to go for a family picnic given there is no shade or seating aside from the wooden logs that line one side. That is not to say the Flats is completely one dimensional as it is a favourite route for walkers and cyclists as the paved path is nicely shaded and lined on one side by a trickling creek.
So whether you're looking to throw down a few bouncers on one of the concrete cricket pitches, line up a few place kicks or just go for a leisurely stroll, the Flats would be a good option. read more
