Made to order souvlaki and burgers…read more The Mexican lamb souvlaki is my favourite. Though just had my favourite burger here, the succulent New York burger. Place is good, so busy, so expect to wait longer on peak evenings for your order to be made. So sit back, relax and read a paper or the fun local Coffee News. Chips come in both thin French fries and UK thick sizes.

After trying various Souvlaki shops in the Prahran and Oakleigh area I was keen to try if we have…read moresomething on par but local. Souvalicious is located in The Glade Shopping Strip in Patterson Lakes next to Port Phillip Pizza. Upon arrival I was greeted by a 16yo who looked of European descent so I was excited to order expecting an authentic Souvlaki but seeing the Lamb on the menu did arouse suspicious as Traditional Greek shops normally do not serve Lamb. I queried the young man if the meat will be sliced fresh of the rotisery and he confidently answered "yes definately". I ordered and paid the $9.95. While waiting (approximately 15 minutes) I had a chance to peak into the small kitchen and it became obvious the owners were definately not European background and my meat was was definately not being cut from the rotisery like I am would expect from the other shops. Un-wrapping the Souvlaki, I was happy with the size but this was where the positiveness ended. The meat was chewy from a combination of off-cuts and fat, the vegetables were not finely enough sliced so they were falling out and the bottom of the bag ended up collecting around 20ml of fat. I will definately take the drive to Oakleigh next time - same price but uncomparable.

Hands down, unequivocally, beyond question the best fish & chips is this part of town…read more The restaurant is immaculately clean. The fish is fresher than Craig Mack. The staff is faster, more friendly and more efficient than...uh, something ridiculously fast, friendly and efficient. Properly frying food is a science. Time, temperature and technique dictate the difference between soggy/greasy and crispy/light. They have mastered the process and the results are evident in their products. This was particularly noticeable upon eating a piece of fried flake that my son couldn't finish approximately 2 hours after he'd ordered it. The batter was still crunchy and light, which is something I've rarely encountered with fried food. They also act a fish monger, selling fresh seafood at a reasonable price. Additionally they just relocated to a larger shop, and added a noodle bar. As far as the noodles go I've only had the hokkien mee so far as I figured it would be a good baseline and I'm pleased to report it was very good. This is my go-to fish and chips in Chelsea and I'm hoping it becomes my go-to noodle joint too.

The fish is fresh and picked out by the display in front of you. The batter isn't fatty which makes the seafood taste from the fish come through. I recommend Omega 3, its a little more pricey than your usual Fish shop but worth it.
