Firstly, The Ferry is on the Cookham side of The Thames, not Bourne End and secondly, I really wouldn't describe it as an Italian restaurant. The listing is very misleading.
The venue is really lovey, the décor is smart and modern and it's probably a very pleasant place to sit out on the deck with a glass or two of a lunchtime but as the river is on the North East-ish side, I shouldn't expect much sun, most of the time.
Food-wise, it compares with gourmet pub prices but cannot match on quality. I paid about 12/13quid for a bit of bagged salad and some 'Chinesey' chicken that tasted like it was cooked in a commercial sauce. It was quite nice but not at all as good as I was expecting from the surroundings. My colleague's dish was equally unimpressive; neat but tasteless.
Probably a nice place to take your Gran because it's nice and tidy and, judging by the number of blue rinses we saw early on a Thursday evening, they might even give discounts to seniors on pension day. read more
