Fun, Funky & Frugal…read more Located just outside the Thayer city limits (no city sales tax, yay!), Value Seekers has everything from soup to nuts and maybe even the kitchen sink too! The experience is like a small boutique in a mall crossed with a salvage grocery store. But this is unlike any other salvage grocery you've ever been to; this one is CLEAN and we'll ORGANIZED! You never know what you're gonna find there. It could be a great deal on beef jerky, a fashionable turquoise-colored purse and matching jewelry, or a giant shop fan big enough to push a swamp boat (if you can get an extension cord long enough). Toys for the kids, shoes for the whole family, scarves and rings for mom, tools and gardening items for dad, and even pet food and toys for Fido and Kitty. Groceries are cheap and regularly checked for freshness. Candy galore! When I put together my weekly shopping list, I go to Value Seekers first to get what I can because my dollar goes further there. Then I go to the "normal" grocery stores for anything Value Seekers might not have. The owners and employees are friendly and engaging as all get-out and genuinely care about their customers. It seems this company has something for just about every classic business school: marketing, distribution, management... You get the idea. And one of the things that I remember was that Walmart was very good about going into small towns in somewhat rural areas, and opening up a series of small stores. The prices at the small stores would undercut prices for local mom and pop hardware stores and clothing places, causing them to shutter. And once the competition was gone, the Walmart corporation would close most of the small stores, and open up a regional store much farther away forcing all those towns who enjoyed their own Walmart store to travel to a single one. That memory stayed with me while we visited this tiny little Walmart on our road trip. I wondered if this was one of those little stores that somehow missed old Sam's watch fly... This thing was about the size of a small supermarket, but still had all of the things you would expect in a Walmart. Plus, they had things you don't always see you like kayaks and inflatable boats propped up in the parking lot. At least, we don't get that kind of fun here in Southern California. The store was also cleaner than most of the ones I get the joy of visiting here in my native land, and it also wasn't populated by hundreds of people who seem to be having a bad day. The parking lot was small enough to give me a few extra thoughts about navigating it with my 26 foot camper trailer, but we did OK. Just a hop and I skipped off of this small country Road highway but I was traveling to our next destination, I was still able to find my DEF fluid for the truck, and a few other odds and ends for the cooler. Can imagine when I'll drive through here again, but wouldn't have any problem stopping in if I do.

While they are sometimes a bit pricey on some items, they do offer specials & deals on canned goods. Most of their staff are pleasant & willing to be helpful.

Finally made it to the Amish grocery store, Pine Ridge groceries! Really excited to try the fried…read morepies. Be prepared for delicious bread, and the best preserves you could think of.
