A seriously good restaurant in Vieux Port but away from the tourist strip. I was not expecting…read morethis! Our hotel recommended this place and we nearly didn't go in as the place is quite modern inside and not what we thought we wanted. Wrong! Local beer (bottled only) and good local wines. Foie Gras with pineapple chutney and vanilla - sensational combination. I had a dozen clams. Beautifully crafted food. For mains we had a huge fresh locally-caught sole cooked to buttery excellence and an entrecôte steak (cooked blue to perfection). Couldn't eat desserts after such a feast but they looked really good too. Friendly and knowledgeable owner and waitress endured my schoolboy French and were able to describe each dish in detail. This has to be a 'must go' restaurant in La Rochelle.

The Chenin and Pinot Noir we both had were excellent. Short but well curated wine list. The veggie korma starter was great as was the vegan poke. It was great to have a good veggie option in the heart of La Rochelle.

Do not waste your time in this establishment…read more My girlfriend and I came across this restaurant on a balmy summer's evening and we were immediately drawn to it because of its location and atmosphere. No tables were available but we left our number and an hour later the manager called and said he had a table for us. Upon arrival we were seated. After about 15 minutes we had still not been shown a menu or asked what we wanted to drink, and it was only when we called the waitress over that she brought menus. We ordered the food and a bottle of wine (the waitress, like so many of these 'hip' waiters did not bother writing down our order, she said she had it all remembered 'up here'). We were served our bottle of wine immediately, and when no food had arrived 45 minutes later the same waitress came over and told us that some of the food we had ordered was not available because the kitchen had 'lost' our order. She apologised and said the food would be with us "immediately, very very soon". It was apparent that the waitress had forgot to put our order through. Had the wine not been decent we would have left there and then but we waited for another 20 minutes or so thinking that the food was coming but we finally gave up and told the manager that we were leaving. He did not seem to bothered but at least he didn't charge us for the wine. On a busy evening a restaurant like this should have more than 2 waiters. In comparison with another restaurant in La Rochelle which is even smaller but as busy we counted the waiting staff to 5(!). Do not go to this restaurant, there are plenty of better places to go to in La Rochelle.
