Classic old school diner and their famous mish mash
    Tom T.

Be prepared to step back in time when you walk into the Cosmos diner. There are eight stools surrounding the grill. Unless you visit during warmer times when the patio tables are set up, these precious stools are your only tickets to an amazing experience! Their menu is small, but packs a punch. You can choose eggs any style and of course bacon, sausage or ham, toast, and the best home fries in Montreal. Try their signature "Mish Mash" a collection of eggs, potatoes, red peppers, pepperoni bacon, sausage, ham, salami, tomato, onion, and cheese. It's a Montreal legend. They have also been featured in a documentary called "Man of Grease". Depending on how early you arrive, expect a line-up of locals waiting for one of the eight seats. Fortunately the service is fast and super-friendly. What made the experience next level, were the people we met. We were from Toronto and everyone there were lifelong Montrealers, but on this day, it didn't matter. The conversation was fun and unforgettable!

Cosmo's is an institution here in Montreal yet despite being a lifelong Montrealer I only recently tried this famous restaurant. It has been around about 40 years and is known for its cheap, greasy breakfasts. It is really tiny, seating only 11 people and everyone sits at the counter so it is best if you come with one other person max. The atmosphere is that of your friendly, neighbourhood greasy spoon and it has loads of character to it. Everyone is packed in at the counter and it is quite common for everyone to end up talking to each other at some point or another. This ambiance was what I liked most about Cosmos. It makes it feel so welcoming and just a nice place to sit and enjoy a meal. It seems like they also get quite a few regulars here because the staff seemed to know some of the customers by name. The menu is what you would expect from a greasy spoon (bacon and eggs, sandwiches, burgers, etc). They are famous for the Mish Mash, which is a special omelet containing eggs, ham, bacon, salami, tomato, onions and cheese, and the Creation. I decided on the Bagellah for $8. This creation consisted of eggs, bacon and cheese served on top of a Montreal-style bagel. This was excellent and the bacon was really crispy. It was served with a generous portion of hash browns which were awesome and well-seasoned. The price was also very reasonable and included coffee. At one point the waitress also offered everyone in the restaurant homemade peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies on the house. This was really appreciated and they were very good! Any Montrealer should definitely hit up Cosmos when they get the chance. It is easy to see why it has become such an institution here. The unique atmosphere and cheap, greasy food make for an excellent experience.

Hidden little greasy spoon in the heart of NDG serving breakfast food all day. They're known for their famous Creation BLT style sandwich with salami which is known to be the best breakfast sandwich in town, their MishMash plate and their delicious hash browns.

Really small old place with nice burgers etc , informal and gentle service. Just a few spots in winter to sit down but a little terrasse in summer.

One of the nicest atmosphere in a restaurant if you like old school greasy spoon diners.

Not exactly a tourist destination, but it ought to be. Great breakfast, great history (documented in "Man of Grease").

Pooh and I loved our drinks but for the price there should have been more alcohol and less ice. Marie wasn't crazy about her drink. She thought it was more like a cherry juice drink We shared the Calamari platter which was piping hot and had a delicious dipping sauce which Marie kept for her fries. For our main meal I ordered their Fried Chicken Salad. Pooh ordered Apollo à la Brasa, and Marie had Lobster Roll with fries and salad. I liked my salad but since it was "fried chicken " I thought the chicken would be hot. It was just warm so the skin wasn't crispy; more loose like sagging skin. Pooh loved his dish but it was a tad salty and greasy. Marie loved everything. Each of us had a Brazilian coffee which was delicious. After we shared an order of their Beignets. These beignets were huge and came with two dipping sauces: caramel and whipped Nutella. They were heavenly Service was fast and friendly and the ambiance was lively - great music too We would definitely return. I will try a different dish.

It's quite busy with the brunch crowd, but not like dinner hours. We had delicious drinks, clearly huge servings of great food, and a nice time just hanging out. We didn't feel rushed and got to just enjoy one another's company. It is tight seating admittedly, and not super comfy, but I'll take it for the yummy food. Will be back for breakfast.

We walked in and were immediately approached by a server so we asked to sit by the window. We both ordered a Steerburger with fries and coleslaw. My friend enjoyed hers and I kinda liked mine but the burger wasn't anything like it used to be. I got the impression there was something other than meat mixed in just by the texture. The curly fries were just like we remembered: crispy & light. Staff was friendly and accommodating l, but the initial server who took our orders forgot to tell us he was either going on break or had finished for the day because another server approached us later to take our order! We told her we had already put in our order. She apologized and 10 minutes later our food came out. Oops.

My hubby had a nice chat with the owner as well. Don't know when we might get back to Montreal but we will definitely go back here if we do. We haven't even tried the beef!

It's a family-owned institution that serves up warmth, tradition and is famous for pizza, smoked meat, seafood, grilled meats, salads, desserts, cheesecake, and more. Open late when most other places are closed, it's an unpretentious diner where my friends and I were glad to share some laughs, jokes with the waitstaff, and good food. We couldn't decide on what to order, so we defaulted to a poutine and a smoked meat platter with extra coleslaw. It felt like being in one of those late night diners with a large menu with lots of choices. The poutine didn't make the honour roll; it didn't fail, but I'd say it was decent and it passed. The smoked meat coming in as the valedictorian was not surprising since it's the namesake of the place. My friends prefer their smoked meat with a little bit of melt-in-your-mouth fat whereas I prefer it lean. Our waitress was kind enough to put both buttery, fatty and lean pieces on the platter so we were all happy. There was mustard ready to go at our booth table, we were ready to slather it on the rye bread. The smoked meat was warm, tender, tasty and delicious! The coleslaw also was good too with a good amount of sourness and garlic flavour. It's an alternative to Lester's, Snowdon Deli, or Schwartz's. I'd definitely return for the cozy ambiance and smoked meat.
