I have never been so pleased and satisfied from an annual eye exam visit. My boyfriend and I were in town from Chicago visiting his family and decided to get our eyes checked out since we had time to kill and were both over due for new glasses (My boyfriend was familiar with the office, but hasn't been since the new owners and I was a new patient). We were walk-ins so I didn't expect much and was hopeful to even be seen. Lucky they had two cancellations and we were booked. Being a thrifty shopper always looking for a deal or to do only the minimum and pay as little as possible, I told myself to say no to everything unless covered by insurance as I hate pressured sales. That attitude slowly faded.
The well staffed front desk was so personable, detailed, efficient, and helpful. They provided such a fun ambiance to the office, I instantly felt at home. They got our insurance situated, explained what was and wasn't covered, and explained additional services and cost (should we opt for them). There was no pressure to purchase anything additional, but we both opted for the retinal images. It allows the Dr. to see the back of the eye. My images came back clean, but he had some hemorrhages in one eye (which could be harmless or a possible sign of an underlying condition, it was suggested he get checked out to be on the safe side). LOVE IT! I've been trying to get him to go in for a physical for years.
The exams with the optometrist assistant went well with no hesitations. I appreciate her humor and ability to break the ice as I was getting test anxiety.
I saw Dr. Miller shortly after. Extremely professional yet approachable. Grateful for the thorough exams, explanations of what and why she's doing something. I opted last minute to get evaluated for contacts as I ran out a couple years back and like to use them occasionally (but didn't like my last optometrist so I didn't order) I got to keep a pack of sample contacts. After my appt was over and I was waiting to check out, Dr. Miller came back out with some free samples of eye drops (one OTC and another prescription) because I had expressed concern about dry eyes and my cat allergy. That level of service is not common, especially in the city...She just earned my trust.
We didn't see any frames we liked, possibly because our eyes were dilated. We decided to shop around later for frames elsewhere. There was no pressure to purchase eyeglasses then and there.
So now for payment. I had an idea of what I would be paying, but we all know how some hidden fees like to pop up on any type of medical services. I asked for an itemized receipt and there were NO hidden costs! The bill was exactly what was expected...What I would payout of pocket and what insurance covered.
