There was plenty to share. There were only two of us and easily was enough for 4!! Chateaubriand for 2 was amazing!!! Chef and sous chef and wait staff really know what they are doing! The building is beautifully renovated with classy modern decor, airy and bright. We booked the most expensive room, a lake view room with balcony for 250 British Pounds per night, including breakfast. The balcony overlooks fields used for sheep grazing. We enjoyed being close to all the birds and the flock of 20 to 30 sheep. The man who cared for the sheep had a dog who helped round up the animals. It felt like we were living on a working farm, and we loved it. The room was spacious and modern with a very nice bathroom. The in-room coffeemaker was a fancy model, too complicated for me to use, even after the staff gave me two demonstrations on how to brew the coffee. Apparently my Masters degree is not adequate for this task. In the room we could clearly hear every step people took in the room above, but luckily it was a quiet couple in that room, so not a big issue. The dining facilities and bar at the hotel are beautiful and spacious, with lots of windows, views, and natural light. The decor is modern and tasteful and there is an open kitchen, making it more interesting. Breakfast was done very well, offering a combination of buffet service and waitress service. You can eat indoors or outside on a lovely patio. It should be noted that views of the lake are minimal. You can only see a very small portion of the lake from the hotel, and there is no lake access from the hotel property. Nevertheless, we were more than satisfied with the views -- mountains and farm fields, all lush and green. The hotel is not in the town center. It is on the edge of the village, just a 2-minute walk to shops and restaurants. I highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed in the Fellside Signature Room which set us back £172 per night - for 2 of us away for a birthday treat and wanting somewhere classy - that's not too bad at all. Also worth noting that the complimentary breakfast is the best I've ever had in a hotel stay. Infact the breakfast deserves a paragraph of it own, it was sublime. Mountains of options in the buffet-style Cumbrian breakfast, cereals and fruit if you want healthier options and then a made-to-order menu that is fully inclusive in your stay with fantastic options such as buttermilk pancakes, smashed avacado on toast and waffles with a choice of toppings. Both days we had breakfast we ate far too much - but it was well worth it. The pool, gym and spa areas are also very nice. An enjoyable lap pool or jacuzzi to relax and loosen up after a long day of walking and a small but adequate gym and weight room if you need to get a sweat on! Overall a simply brilliant stay. The Langdales are a picturesque place without anything added, but the Langdale Hotel adds a touch of gloss to an unbeatable weekend retreat.

Ahh, the Lake District. If you're in the least bit tempted to take a break anywhere in the UK, I'd…read morehighly recommend putting Ambleside on your radar. It does exactly what it says on the tin -- there are many sides to amble along. One such amble might take you up to this fine establishment, since after a day of trekking up hills and discovering tarns, you're likely to require sufficient spa time. And that's the deal here. I believe you'll need to book access, but since my dear Dad made the arrangements, it's worth a cursory glance at their website to check the details. Upon arrival, you'll find a gorgeous enclosure, lined with trees, foliage, and greenery. As well as being able to stay here (for a princely sum, I imagine) you can also take advantage of their spa facilities. This includes a pool, which is sectioned off for those who want to rack up some lengths, a sauna, a steam room, a jacuzzi, a gym, and a massage area. (Which, again, will require booking.) In the summer months, I'm told, they open up the huge glass doors by the pool and you can even go outside and play chess on the lawn with their huge set. The whole place is clean, and well-maintained, and my particular favourite spot was the sauna -- which is directly opposite the pool, if you want to cool off. There is also a cold shower and an ice cold bucket to freshen up with, but I was not even nearly brave enough. Upstairs there's a bar and eatery, which opens out to some very pleasant outdoor seating, facing a large pond and yet more greenery. The slow service would be the only let down, since you're not able to go up and order yourself and have to wait at the table. Although it was mega slow on the day we were there, the ace barman did convince the chef to make me an eggs benedict, which you're only supposed to get during breakfast hours. (Always worth asking.) I was not in the least bit disappointed, either. The food was absolutely perfect, and combined with a well-spiced bloody mary, I was in brunch heaven. I could have had the whole thing twice and it was precisely what I was craving at the time. The only thing that they could tweak is the quality of the coffee -- but hey, it's hard to get everything right. (And this is a complaint I'd put on most places, being a coffee snob.) Essentially, if you want to relax Lakes style, this place is your Huckleberry.

The two bar meals areas were pretty full, so I ate outside. This is in July. I only had to wait four minutes for my order to arrive, beautifully cooked haddock in batter, proper chips and mushy peas with mint.(see the photo!) I thought that it was reasonable at £7.95 and one of half a dozen cooked lunches at that price. They also do a two course meal (for the over 60s) for £5.95. There are also a good range of lighter options for lunch. Puddings however were disappointing, they sounded great, but were £5.45. One of the things which I should have born in mind is that, because it is such a tourist hot spot, normal prices are generally suspended. As a result the main courses were cheap, but the puddings the usual!! I enjoyed my bitter and there was a good selection of real ales, and also wines. The Queen's Head also does bed and breakfast. It costs £45 per person per night at the moment, according to the village website.

It was a lovely day and the patio outside of Yewdale was full of people, looking very inviting! It was so full in fact that we ended up being seated inside, which was not a problem. For international travelers like myself, note that you don't have a server come to your table, but instead you head up to the bar to put in food and drink orders. A few brews for the guys, a glass of wine for my mom-in-law, and a gin spritzer cocktail for me all went over well! As for the food: I opted for the sweet potato and chickpea curry and wow was it flavorful! Full of spices, but not too spicy. It came with mango chutney (my fave), a coconut yogurt of sorts, and plenty of rice. A filling dish for sure. I also had a bite (or three) of my husband's margarita pizza. It was tasty and the crust was perfection. Not surprising seeing as they have a big wood-fired oven that the pizzas are made in. The fish n chips were rated top notch by my in-laws as well. We were appreciative of the high chair for my son, the friendly staff, and the fact that this place is dog-friendly because there were plenty of cute pups around! Nothing but a positive dinner experience here!

The scenery was absolutely breathtaking and our hikes were amazing. (Helm Crag, Silver How & Easdale Tarn) The staff at the Daffodil were friendly and helpful. Our stay included breakfast which included a great selection of hot and cold items. Our room was a corner unit with a fabulous view and it was clean and well maintained. Unfortunately, I didn't have any spa treatments but I did take advantage of the pool, sauna and steam room. Fabulous! The only strange thing is, if your coming from your room in your bathing suit and robe, you do have to walk into the lobby to access the spa area. Just a little odd I thought. I honestly cannot day enough nice things about this place and I can't wait to visit again. If I could teleport back to any point in time in our entire vacation it would be to Grasmere. A stunning place to visit and a stunning hotel to stay at.

Now, at the foot of Grasmere Lake, less than a football field away from William Wordsworth's Dove Cottage and Lake Grasmere, is the exquisite hotel and spa named for the poet's favorite flower. I'm a two-time English degree holder, so I'm a sucker for little touches of literature. I loved their interior pictures and artwork ... Ronald Dahl book covers, Beatrix Potter stuff, and, of course, Wordsworth. The rooms are amazing, the food is amazing, you won't want to leave after a spa treatment. It is EXPENSIVE. The thing that sets Daffodil apart is the "at home" feel you get ... you don't just feel like a pampered guest, you feel like part of the family. It reminds me of the first luxury hotel I stayed at in the UK ... the Randolph in Oxford ... it's a place you wouldn't mind spending Christmas at because you feel at home. Anything that gets people to Grasmere, and to the history of Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter, is tops in my book. Trust me, come to the Lake District ... and if you want to see it at its most luxurious, stay at the Daffodil. Rain, spritz, or shine, you will definitely feel the presence of Wordsworth, walking the hotel grounds on the lake. "I wandered lonely as a cloud That floats on high o'er vales and hills, When all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze."
