The hotel is recently re-decorated and the room I had was comfortable and a good size. Rooms are are quite variable, so with the hotel to see what they have available. The restaurant was surprisingly busy for a mid-week and the menu was extensive. I had an individual game pie for starters, venison steak with rosti for main and an excellent selection of english cheese and biscuits to finish. The food was to a very high standard, with a price tag to match: over £36 for the three courses. The wine list has a good selection and there is a huge selection of over 100 Malt Whiskys. The hotel is surprisingly child-friendly with family rooms, pool table, table tennis table and playground facilities. There is also a small pool, jacuzzi, infa-red sauna, turkish steam room and solarium. The hotel has some useful folders giving information on local attractions, walks and other things to do locally. Well worth a visit.

The resturant in the conservatory looks over Appleby with great views of the hills and surrounding area. The gardens of the hotel are well kept and tidy. The hotel has a gym and pool these being small so not for anyone wanting to do loads of swimming. The rooms are clean and pleasent. From the hotel you can walk easily down into the town and have a wander round the river which is really nice. This hotel is really good value for money and well worth a try if looking to stay in the area.

Riverside Hotel Kendal - Luxurious room

This is the worst hotel I ever came across travelling around the world for the past 15 years. My…read moretrain got cancelled, I informed them that I would come on the next day, which was already prepayed. What these petty crooks did is took advantage of my train cancellation - charged me the no show fee for the whole period of stay and cancelled my booking. When I arrived the next day they said my reservation is not valid anymore, and I have to pay for the next night again. Even if this policy allows that, the behaviour of the hotel was dishonest and unethical, basically, they behaved like thieves. Avoid by all means! Especially since train cancellations are frequent in the UK. None of the other hotels behaved like that, in most cases I received the full refund. There are many much better hotels in Kendal.

My room had the most spectacular views out over the river too. The bed was huge and was like sleeping on clouds ... It was incredibly comfortable and I had the best sleep I've had in ages. The bathroom was rrally nuce although the toilet is a little weird, almost like a children's toilet but hey it does the job. The bath was luxurious too though for some reason I couldn't get cold water to come out as hard as I tried it just flooded out boiling water. That's probably just me not knowing which way to turn the tap though. There is a leisure centre with a gym, swimming pool, sauna, spa and steam room that is open to guests so don't forget your swimmers (like I did). Reception staff were friendly and welcoming. I'd forgotten my toothbrush but they handily had bathroom essentials for purchase. The restaurant is very nice with plenty of options. I only had the chips as I have a lot of food allergies but the chips were delicious. Chunky and crunchy. The only thing I didn't appreciate was house keeping entering the room at 9 am when I was still asleep. They should probably wait until people have checked out, or at least until later in the morning. Overall, I had a great stay and I'd happily return.

It's quite a busy little spot at times as there are boat moorings and a marina holiday home development virtually on its doorstep and also caravan parks nearby. The pub has a relaxed atmosphere and a reasonable choice of beers and lagers including Black Sheep beer and Peroni lager to name a couple. There is a pool table and fruit machine and basically it has the vibe of a typical traditional English pub. You can dine in the pub area or, alternatively, in the restaurant which is decorated in lighter colours and has more of a feeling of a special occasion about it. On the most recent occasion we visited it was a specials on pizza and pasta night and we both opted for pizza. It was fine but nothing out of the ordinary really, my pepperoni pizza was quite bland and I prefer a thinner base but then that is just personal choice. On previous occasions we have tried various dishes including steaks, fish & chips, sausage and mash, chicken, gammon etc. and we have generally been pretty pleased with the food. Service can be slow even at quiet times and my request for a dessert menu on our last visit was being directed to look at a counter with some desserts in it, I wasn't very impressed by that and wasn't going to bother but fortunately another member of the waiting staff appeared and told me what was available. I opted for the Eton Mess which was pleasant enough. I'd say the prices were just above average for the area, taking these Two for One venues out of the equation, though the steak which was on the specials board came in at a hefty £18.95 when we were there. Starters too are a bit on the pricey side. Overall though we really like the place and will very definitely return in the future on many occasions!

The bed was very comfortable and we really appreciated the high ceilings, beautiful grounds, and enjoyed our walks around the estate. If you're working like we were, note that the internet is indeed fast enough for a developer who runs team meetings to lead all their meetings! I had a spa session with massage and facial and it was excellent! I swam every day and used the sauna facilities. The locker room and pool area was kept very clean and dry. The lady attendant was fastidious in keeping the changing room dry and clean. There was a bit of an incident where one of my favorite vintage pieces I sent off to laundry was not returned to us when they dropped off our clean clothes. I had actually been at the entrance to the hotel when the cleaner dropped it off and I verbally acknowledged to her that I could see my laundry because of my vintage piece and she stated they'd be delivered to my room shortly. Front staff sent back an empty hanger amongst our other clean clothes and had lost it. We found it on the floor amongst boxes behind the reception desk. They returned my item, and apologized personally. Not a big deal and glad it was resolved.

Lot of swearing, screaming, hitting and shouting in the room next to us. Police intervention, mr roach was arrested and poor kelly brought to hospital by ambulance. In other words, our first night was not very restful! Sure that the hotel can't do anything about this, however some pro active compensation would have been in order. The downside of this hotel is the aggressive pricing for wedding packages, meaning that there are many wedding parties going on. I counted six in two days, which brings a lot of drunkards to the hotel, which does not help if you're seeking a quite place to relax. Will I ever get back to this hotel, no.
