The Ellis is situated in just the right location - right between the hustle and bustle of Savannah's historic district and the beaches of Tybee Island. A safe, gated community, The Ellis has fabulous amenities people actually WANT to use (the business center, pool, outdoor seating areas and on-site gym are my favorites) and staff I would give an A+ rating, all day, every day. Maintenance is ON TOP of any issues. I once had a wasp nest on my balcony, and they took care of it within 24 hours. The office staff take time to get to know you and help you with anything you need. If you want to be seen as a person, and part of a community, you owe it to yourself to take a look at The Ellis. And don't even get me started about the high ceilings, trendy decor, and HUGE closets in my apartment. This is my home, and I love it here. I think you will, too. read more

I do not live here, but I watched a friend go through the whole move in process with this place and I have been here many times to visit and attend their little community events. PROS: The pool area is probably the nicest I've ever seen for an apartment complex. The gym is quite decent and they even have a room for you to do dance, yoga, or spin bike. They have a little indoor area next to the pool with TVs and places to sit and chill. They can even open the walls like garage doors to access the outside. The dog park is actually pretty decent and they are very pet friendly. Their community events are pretty awesome and I think it's an awesome concept for every one to get together and meet each other. They've had pool parties, movie night, taco truck nights, and other stuff. Kate is my favorite person in the office. CONS: I don't think I can stress enough how bad the cockroach problem is. They are everywhere. I know savannah has a cockroach problem, but when you are paying a crazy amount of rent in "luxury" apartments, I think that this problem should be addressed and be taken care of appropriately and it's not. I've seen them in my friends apartment all over after she has complained multiple times. The rent is crazy, especially if you have pets. I honestly don't think these are luxury apartments aside from the amenities. Luxury pool and gym, but that's it. There is nothing luxury about the actual apartments. Very cheaply done with a cockroach problem. I also noticed that a lot of people park in the handicap spots that shouldn't be parking there. As a disabled person with handicap plates, it's really upsetting to see young people park in those spots with nobody enforcing it. Something that I've seen multiple times, that may just be perception, that upsets me is watching the trash guy haul the trash. I'm sure he volunteered to have the job but y'all really make him walk up and down stairs and carry all that trash to the compactor while some fancy unnecessary, golf cart sits in front of the office? Last thing, when they run the background check on you, you will probably get screwed like my friend did. They use this service that is cheap and has terrible reviews and they ended up flagging my friend and wouldn't let her move in, when they actually ran somebody else different through that wasn't her. I could probably write more in both sections but honestly, when it comes to the apartments we looked at in Savannah, you're gonna have to pay extra money to have something decent and live here. I want to start off by saying I do love living here but I'm going to give an honest review. A lot of what the first reviewer said is true. There is 100% a roach problem, I've had to contact maintenance twice within weeks because of it. Being a gal living alone who is terrified of bugs this is a HUGE problem. I've told them I've SEEN roaches coming from the room with the water heater in it and they didn't at all come to open that room they just ignore it. So I took matters into my own hands and have shoved a towel tightly under it to give me peace of mind. Open up the dishwasher and BAM roach. Advise given to me by their exterminator, raid will be your best friend. The finishes are very cheap. Paint was missed, chipped, and lightly applied in most all areas. The paint used is also poor quality, you touch the wall and a stain appears.. like really? The carpet is already coming up in different areas of the room. Upon move-in you don't do a walk-through with anyone. So you can't point out things that were already ruined before you moved in which I find very odd..? They say they're pet friendly because they allow any breed and they allow animals in the clubhouse. In my experience if a place is pet friendly, you're not charged rent per pet and the pet deposit would be refundable if they are so pet friendly. Having a nonrefundable deposit and paying rent each month both seem like A scam to get more money not a very friendly thing to do. For two pets expect to pay $700 upon moving in just for your pets to live in the house with you. Now onto the good things. The Ellis hosts really cool community events. Since moving here we've had a pool party and a movie night which were both super fun. The gals who work in the front office are typically nice. I would have to say personally, the most sincere would be Kate. The amenities are fantastic. The gym is super nice and pretty much has everything you would need to work out. The pool is amazing I absolutely love it! The dog park is not kept up very well at all which definitely is a downside to me personally. The fire pit in the pool area has never worked since I've moved in. They typically have snacks and drinks available in the main office whenever you go. The coffee machine is fantastic however a lot of times I've come and it's out of certain flavors so you just get hot water basically. Overall I would have to say, again, I do love living here. Before you move-in know the fact; that you will 5 to 1 have a roach problem, you're going to be paying a lot of money in rent, the finishes are 100% cheap, some of the amenities aren't always up to par, and some of the staff isn't as pleasant as other members. In return you're very close to downtown you live in a safe community there are a lot of other pets here which is great for socialization. read more

Thank God I can be the first Yelp Reviewer. The Ellis is a total scam, they should stop branding themselves as a "luxury" apartment complex. Don't be fooled by the shiny new facade, because behind it are: - cheap finishes (my closet shelf collapsed two weeks after moving in, the paint is chipped and peeling already, paint all over the floor and trim), - unkept promises (we were promised a washer/dryer unit THAT WE PAID FOR, three weeks no one has a clue as to where the machines are) -Roach infested premises - Terrible management (once you fork over thousands of dollars to move in, you will never hear back from the staff. If you have an emergency after 5pm you are out of luck, as there is no one there to assist you, only a number which makes you navigate through two menus before you are met by an answering machine. If you get locked out in the middle of the night, find a hotel because you are not getting any help until the next day) - The "security" gates do not work so literally anyone can wander off the streets right to your front door. The way The Ellis is managed is negligent at best, bordering on the criminal (they almost murdered my dog by locking him in the house after the maintenance person's visit, he is 16 and needs special attention) . Management will forget you exist, unless you break one of their precious rules, of which there are PLENTY, then rest assured they will be quick to contact you with a fine for you to pay. I had the BEST experience moving into the Ellis!! Everyone was so friendly and helpful through the entire process. The apartment was beautifully cleaned and freshly painted when we moved in, everything was perfect. The washer and dryer were missing, and they were there within an hour with them and handled our few maintenance requests immediately, Keith and Nicole are the best! read more
