I have been to a few parties here at the Elizabeth Suite. It is situated in the old stone majesty of Bury Town Hall and has some grand steps leading up to its entrance from Knowsley Street.
Special enough for our Sixth Form Leaving Prom/ Do/ Party - us dressed up to the nines in our Karen Millen or Jane Norman sparkly dresses and the boys in suits posing for photos on those steps...
The room is pretty big - a really good size for a dancefloor for a couple of hundred people, with some dancing like loons on the stage. Another time I have been and there were lots of big round tables for groups as it was more of a dinner.
The bar is at the far side and set in, to allow those bar flies to stay safe from all the dancing hordes. And the stage is big enough for a performance or two if that is what the night entails. Upstairs, there are a few other rooms - I remember one was used as a makeshift photographer's studio, another for the massive buffet in one case.
The Elizabeth Suite is one of those gorgeous civic spaces: shabby but still fairly grand in its own way. read more
