Great little gastropub. Thoroughly enjoyed it. A bit short staffed but food made up for it.

Great pub, very friendly staff, and really nice food. Very child friendly to, which may or may not be a good thing!

All food I had was fab - i had booked the room/breakfast deal. both the full English's (one vegetarian) were huge portions! The room, mine anyway, wasn't as polished as in the website, but that's pretty common, and there was nothing wrong with it, per se, some general maintenance I let the manager know. Overall, super comfortable hotel with a great location, 2 minutes from tube, sweet little village of Kew Gardens and of course Kew Gardens itself which was a very enjoyable morning, altho you could stay all day. I'll def be back

Years ago The Kew Gardens Hotel (as it was then called) was a blot on Kew's landscape. The only people who drank there were people who wanted to play snooker and the odd person staying in the hotel who couldn't be bothered to stagger down to The Railway a few 100 yards down the road. Now it's all changed - a massive refurbishment in 2004 turned it into a large comfy gastro pub that is friendly and is the place where you can hang out with lots of mates, but you'd also be happy to bring your family for Sunday lunch, dinner or even have a family party there. When you enter it looks like a traditional pub. Lots of comfy sofas, hardy looking bar tables that look like they've been there for a 100 years. There's a blackboard with yummy bar snacks - the house burger rivals GBK burgers not as large but the meat literally melts in your mouth and is served with a delicious tomato relish & rocket (my favourite weed). They also do large club sandwiches, stacks of house chips, and some very tasty hand cooked pork scratchings with apple sauce. Moving to the back of the pub though and it turns into a restaurant or more of a gastro-pub. It's much lighter and airier in the back and has more of a family atmosphere. There's also a really cute beer garden - like the huge hanging baskets outside it's what you would expect of a pub so close to Kew's Botanical Gardens. Everytime, I've eaten here the food's been very good. The menu changes every week and the ingredients are fresh and prepared (usually) very quickly in a busy kitchen, with the staff ringing bells and saying "chef" all the time. There's also a cool mezzanine upper floor with even more leather sofas and a widescreen TV if you feel you have to watch TV. I prefer to sit downstairs with a glass of wine, a burger and a stack of papers, happy in the knowledge that I live a stone's throw from one of the best pubs in Kew.

I visited Rose & Crown on two consecutive…read moredays, and unfortunately, both experiences were extremely disappointing and left me feeling unwelcome. On my first visit, after being greeted, I waited nearly an hour just to receive water and a menu. During that time, other patrons who arrived after me were quickly attended to and served food and drinks, despite the restaurant not being busy. This delay was unusual and immediately gave me a sense that I was being treated differently. I decided to give the place another chance the next day because I enjoyed the ambiance and fireplace. However, the same troubling pattern repeated itself. I sat for almost an hour without being offered water or a menu. It took so long I opened a book. When I finally asked for water, assuming the menu would come. The manager told me I would need to leave if I wasn't ordering anything, even though I had not been given a menu or had the chance to order yet. As I waited with people passing me by for a second day with no menu or water offered until an hour and then be prompted to leave. The service I received was not only slow but felt discriminatory and exclusionary. The fact that other guests were attended to promptly while I was ignored made me feel singled out and unwelcome. While the atmosphere and fireplace are nice, the way I was treated made it impossible for me to enjoy the experience. Based on my experience, I would not recommend eating here if you are a person of color, as the treatment I received was unacceptable and gave me serious concerns about the establishment's approach to hospitality and inclusivity. I would not recommend eating here overall if you want good customer service. It missed the mark and the worst restaurant I have been to thus far in town. 0/10.

Knowing that going to central London would be crazy, people and transportation wise, we knew we had to stick to a place near where we were staying. Thankfully, this pub was opened and had some nice reviews for their roast. I made reservations months before our trip to make sure we secured a spot. I made reservations for 1pm, but didn't show up until 3pm (military time confused me). That was totally my fault, but the hosts were so nice and accommodating and were able to find us a table. We knew we wanted the Sunday roast so we ordered one for our table, and decided to try other dishes: beer battered haddock, farm beef burger, and fried chicken nuggets. The fish was beautifully presented over a bed of chips, and also served with some peas. The peas were decadent: the mint gave it a nice touch. Son loved and secured his burger. The chicken nuggets were also tasty and crunchy. The Sunday roast exceeded our expectations. Plenty hoe gravy and fresh horseradish served on the side. The carrots and another white vegetable I'm not familiar with, we're nicely cooked. The roast was so tasty, tender, and juicy. It made me sad that we could only have this meal once during our trip. We enjoyed our meal with a nice IPA (neck oil) and cider (Cornish orchards) . The mixture of carbs and alcohol gave me enough relaxation to make it home and take the nicest siesta I've had in a while. Anyway, I'm happy I was able to be able to finally try Sunday roast, even though I was two hours late (don't do that), and I highly do recommend trying it here. You won't be disappointed! A cozy pub with great food and beer selection, is there anything else you can ask for?
