It's great to have a working garage door again. It's rare to get great service like this. I'm impressed! I do my research and am mechanically skilled. Door Dummies is a legit father/son team using US parts and US labor you can trust. They put relationships over profit which is rare in this marketplace. Dual spring replacement should cost around $400-$500. It's unfortunate to learn there are other scammers out there charging $1000+ for these services with fake warranties to grandmas. I got bids on Yelp with people charging the the most, with the most reviews, and have the least valuable services if you look deep enough. It's good to replace both springs and potentially end plate bearings each time. Door Dummies will be honest if you need those replaced. Average spring life is about 7-10 years. It's worth contacting Door Dummies to check these out if you are in that age range. Getting stuck in your garage when they snap is dangerous. Door Dummies is a honest company and you should help them build this business on original North Carolina values.

I generally hesitate to leave such a bad review for a business with so few reviews, but this was…read morethe WORST customer service my family and I have experienced thus far. To be fair: I directly interacted with Kate myself only once, but I was witness to the continued attempts by my family to get her to do a simple garage door opener installation. We bought the garage door opener kit from Lowe's and gave Kate a call. She gave us an installation estimate of $100 and said that she could come install in 3 days. She said she could be there between 3-5 PM on the day of installation. She actually showed up at 7:30 PM. We were worried so we called her that evening a total of 3 times. The first two times, my mom answered. Now, my mom's English isn't the best as she's got an accent, but it is definitely understandable. The first time my mom called, Kate told her it was the wrong number. She called the number on her card again and this time, Kate gave her a rather rude "I can't understand you" and hung up. I called her the third time, to which Kate VERY rudely said, "This is my cell phone! Why do you people keep calling me??!" ....Oddly enough, she called us back in a few minutes saying she would be at the installation (2.5 hours late). To cut a long story short, Kate was not able to install the door opener that evening. She claimed the chain was too short. So then, my dad went to Lowe's and got an exchange. He also measured the chain length on EVERY unit sold, and it was all the same. At this point, we were a little suspicious as to whether Kate could actually install a garage door. She made various (almost hilariously unbelievable) excuses for our last attempt to have her come install. Now this was the THIRD time we scheduled for her to come out. She did not even show up. My dad called her again prior to meeting and she said she couldn't find her car keys. She did not call us to let us know this, and she did not answer any calls after that. We are beyond disappointed in the "service" that this company offered. She failed to install a garage door opener and after taking 50% of the service fee and 3 separate installation dates, refused to answer our calls. Please think twice if you want to use Kate's Garage Doors.

I found their service to be fast, honest and dependable, I feel that there was a connection made the moment I met them, just a real pleasure to do business with. Joe did a fantastic job installing my new garage door opener and explaining how everything works. Kate took a look at my garage doors and suggested that I get new doors after I mentioned that I might be selling the house and because my garage doors were in really bad shape. I'm looking forward to continue doing business with this company, their prices are definitely something that are both reasonable and affordable, they are simply THE BEST!

We recently contracted with these guys to replace our old, worn out garage door. At first we were…read morepleased. The original technician was very pleasant and prompt. He replaced the original Chamberlain unit with a newer model, then stuck around to reprogram all of our old openers to the new unit. (The new unit came with two, but we have several cars and a keypad on the door so he saved us the time and effort by doing these for us before he left.) However by the next day we were running into problems with the new door only going down part way before going back up. After returning to troubleshoot, they realized they put a unit with a less powerful motor on than the original one and it wasn't doing the job, so they swapped it out and again reprogrammed the remotes - minus our keypad, which he couldn't figure out. (?) Unfortunately this did not solve the problem, our garage door would still bounce back up when trying to close the door so we called them back out, they came back out and said they couldn't find anything wrong, and it must just be a loose sensor or we were blocking it. They clamped it down tighter and left. However, this still didn't solve the problem so we insisted they come back out again. By this time we noticed the issue occurred the most frequently but also "instantaneously" (as opposed to trying to close for a second or two before going back up) when there was direct sunlight coming into our garage. We told them this and they said that the sunlight might be causing the sensors to fail and maybe we should put a toilet paper tube over them to act as a shade. Unacceptable. We insisted that we never had a problem with the original garage door in this manner and it's likely a bad sensor and they should come replace it if that's really the problem. They refused to come back out, said that if it was a part problem then we needed to call Chamberlain directly and put in a warranty claim and they would send us a new part. So we called Chamberlain as requested. They ran us through diagnostics over the phone and asked us to provide pictures as we were doing it. They immediately discovered that Lion re-used and spliced in the original wires from the old unit to run to the sensors instead of installing the new wiring like they were supposed to (see attached images). They had us temporarily attach the sensors to each other by the motor so our garage door would work (albeit without the safety features) and told us to have Lion come back out and run the wiring properly which would fix the problem. I have since called Lion 6 times to have this scheduled repair done, and they have yet to return my calls...
