I was a little worried about getting lost as it is on an industrial estate, although i found it pretty easy as you just have to turn off the A630. I found it a little difficult to park as there was a hockey thing going off on the other rink, but i managed it in the end. I was amazed that this place was here, i was speeking to the girl on reception as i arrived (i got there a little before everyone else) and apparently its been here like 10years! The birthday party was lovely, the girl that organised it all made everyone feel really welcome, not just the birthday childs parents like some other places i have been to, and the kids loved it! After about 15mins my youngest (7) decided she wanted a go, so i went and paid for her to have a go, it cost me less than a fiver and she couldav stayed for the rest of the session if she wanted to which i thought was pretty reasonable...we discovered she isnt the most gracefull of people haha! but she just kept brushing herself off and having another go. I even managed to have a gander at the hockey on the other rink. When the party went upstairs i took my youngest into the cafe to get something to eat, and to my suprise the menu was pretty varied. You have you bog standard cafe food, your sandwiches, burgers, chips that kind of this, but they also did jacket potatoes and i opted for a lasagne and wasnt dissapointed. On my way out i picked up a few leaflets and saw that they run skating sessions from £1 per person...will deffinatly be going back!

It's true, it's pretty pricey at £7.50 per adult for 55 minutes, especially since the price actually GOES UP on the 14th of December...! But that does include skate hire and it's not something you do everyday! It's in a great location in the heart of Spinningfields, surrounded by restaurants and bars including the special North Pole bar which is just for the Christmas season and well worth checking out. So you can actually make an evening of it. I'd definitely suggest booking tickets in advance over the phone, the number is above, it saves you the times queuing up once you get there!

The Spinningfields Ice rink is back! Okay, so maybe I work very closely to it, but I genuinely…read morethink it's a lovely addition to the winter period in Manchester. Situated on Hardman Square, the temporary rink is in the city between November and January, soon to be surrounded by the Spinningfields Christmas markets. Although I do, on occasion, enjoy the Albert Square markets, I prefer a wander around this area purely because things like the ice rink help to break up the space and reduce the feelings of claustrophobia one can have in other markets in the city. Also, this ice rink is placed between two bars, so you can have a skate and then retire to somewhere warm with a mulled wine or whisky. Or you could just do this first, obviously.
