The name outside this oval shape some building is called Corn Exchange Shops. It houses a collection of speciality boutique stores. It claimed that the merchandises were exclusively from local independent makers, artists and designers of Yorkshire. The basement level has a few ping pong tables set up for recreational players. I did pick a few unique items from the shop called Natural & Nice. It has two camera stores that sell old SLR cameras that used films. It is pretty cool place to hang out and do window shopping.

There are also two very large gift / card shops that will probably sell the most obscure card you just couldn't find anywhere else. Try not to go in a mixed gender group, since there's not much for the men to do other than sit around in the café in the middle of the ground floor while the women wander around aimlessly for several hours. Lots and lots of parking, clean facilities.

Befitting its location in the Victoria Quarter it doesn't stock many of those cheap, tacky cards featuring naff cartoons and 'hilarious' lewd jokes. I wouldn't say it's the best card shop I've ever been to but it definitely tops the offerings of most high street card shops with many more unusual finds than say, Clinton Cards and it should have something to suit everyone.

Bayliffe and Lupton house a whole variety of specialist gift cards from a variety of designers, from beautifully painted prints, to exquisite photography to humourous vintage photograph and caption cards. It has a huge range of different gift cards and will cover all the standard areas, but makes the difference by really finding some special designers. As well as this they sell other related goods, wrapping, canvas prints and the odd trinket or gift item, but the main reason for visiting is the quality of the gift cards. I can always choose a special card that really says something about who I am buying for, which makes all the difference when you are sending to someone special. You might pay a little more than usual, but in my book it's worth it.

Ranging from handmade jewellery to calendars, umbrellas to clocks, and photo frames to keepsakes, The Card Room has the bagatelle market covered. There is an entire baby section at the rear of the shop, and whilst I was there recently, a staff member was expertly guiding a gentleman around the selection of photo memory books for babies. The man in question did not take much encouragement to proudly announce that he had just become a Grandfather for the first time, regaling his assistant with her name and weight. It was a touching moment to overhear! If you were wondering, the baby was called Amber. The Card Room is a perfectly adequate shop in which to purchase a fairly conservative range of cards and knickknacks. Although I doubt I would make the detour from the city centre to visit the shop, for certain recipients, I would consider the trek.

The cute and trinkety items that I found within only served to match that mood, as did the pleasant aroma and very "zen" vibe of the goods inside. Whilst it's true the items aren't cheap, since I'm sure you could get similar for less if you really tried, they are delightful. The kinds of furniture you would love as a show off piece in your home and more than a few knick-knacks that would make a delightful addition to anyone's mantel piece collection. Think Eastern style decorative items, ornaments and such like and you'll have an idea. A little like Shared Earth but less obviously fair trade. (They might be, I'll have to check that though!) I think I'll certainly be back for the gorgeous green tea sets, as they would make a great gift for many friends of mine, though I must admit there's a huge chance it will be kept for yours truly... Surely worth a browse for a moment or two, and as Christmas looms, perhaps just that little bit more.

Graham and Greene have the very same morroccan pouffes for sale at £130.00, nearly double the price than that of yellow sunrise....Also shops like THE PIER and CARGO which will sell wall hangings etc for five to six times the price of what they are worth.. I am certainly not a wealthy wife but I would prefer to buy from yellow sunrise than some of the other ,fat cat, companies around.

Thornton's Arcade is a firm favourite for me. It's got cool shops, it's got cool places to get a…read morebit to eat and it's in a really cool building. Seriously, just take a look at that ceiling - the arcade opened in 1878 and the architecture is neo-gothic and gorgeous. Check out the Potts' Clock up at the North end - it strikes on the hour and those four figures that surround it are apparently from Ivanhoe. They used to move, but sadly no more. Inside you'll find a good range of shops, some of them independent and (almost) all of them worth exploring. It's worth visiting just for OK Comics, but while you're there check out Chimp for menswear, Tunnel for women's fashion, Welcome Skate Store, and Bon Bons for sweets. Hungry? No problem. Tall Boys Beer Market has you covered, as does Bagel Nash if you're already hipstered-out. With food and retail therapy on hand it would be a shame not not explore this place. Besides, you've got to shelter from the rain somewhere, right?

Cats is a lovely little gift shop within the Leeds University Union. It sells lots of cards for all…read moredifferent occasions, so, as there is a letter box within the Union, this is great if you've forgotten a special occasion. It also sells a variety of little knick-knacks that make great gifts.
