Went to this for the first time last night at Russell industrial center. What a fun time. Way funner than 50 shades of grey movie! There is some real talent in the art show. A couple of things I found hard to look at and offensive to me, but all in all it was nicely set up. Love the people watching. There are people in jeans and sweatshirts to people in leather and fishnets. All ages. Although I would say the vast majority was an average age of 35. Cage dancing, burlesque shows, performances. As night went on, seems like it got racier. My beer was $6. Not bad. We got there when it opened and had a snack. Looks like line for food was really long later. I will go again. My husband enjoyed it but doesn't feel the need to go back every year. I will gather a group of fun girls to go next time. read more

Wow, it's been a hot minute since I've posted a review. I'll keep it short and sweet..HA! Lights, Fetish, Kink, Erotica, Camera, Art, Costume, Bondage, Leather, Action, Performance, Booze...FIN I attended last year for the 1st time on Valentine's Day with amateur porn star Violet Hayes (oops, I mean my girlfriend) and will be attending again this year. We were lucky enough to be on the guest list compliments of the one of the photographers featuring a piece at the show. All and all, a GREAT time full of great people. Not going to complain about the price of the alcohol, it's about strip clubs prices and I'm not there to get wasted...that's for the after party! A great venue to meet with other artists, photographers and network with others in the "fetish" art community. The venue has changed to The Russell Industrial Center due to this increase in the size of the show this year. It's gonna be a blast! I would give it 5 stars, however, they need to fire whoever is in charge of their social media and networking...or give me the job ;) read more

I was looking for the Dirty Show on Yelp the other night, and, much to my amazement, nobody had reviewed it yet. Well, I thought about typing a review, but I was kind of tired, and went to bed instead. Well, lo and behold, somebody had to come along and take away one of the Firsts I love to rack up. (It makes me look all adventurous and stuff.) Congratulations, Christine S. SOMEBODY had to enter this venerable Detroit institution into the annals of Yelp. Like my granddad used to say "Ya snooze, ya lose.." It's hard to believe the Dirty Show is all growed up into a bratty teenager, now in it's 14th installment. I remember when it was a scrappy young upstart in its terrible twos. The Dirty Show has so much pornoriffic eye candy you won't believe it. I'm not easily shocked, but every year that I make it, there's at least a couple pieces that make my jaw drop open in amazement. There's also a couple more so clever that they make me kick myself, as if to say, "Why didn't I think of that?" And I always swear I'm going to submit pieces for the next years installment, but somehow never get around to it or miss the deadline. (See the beginning of the review.) The performances are definitely a highlight, although this year I had to work late and was only able to catch the scantily clad dancers on the circular platforms high above the crowd all night shakin' what their mamas gave 'em. There's more creative stuff going on on the main stages. One year they had a guy who enema-painted with his arsehole. The process was far more impressive than the results. All orientations and kinks are covered. Many of the pieces are humorous, too. This year they had several paintings devoted to the Golden Girls. This year they also had a giant piece inspired by this god-awful pretentious play called Equus that I was forced to read in college. It's about this poor misunderstood youth who stabs four horses because he's uptight about how big their dongs are, or something like that. I forget exactly how it went, but trust me, it's horrible and don't waste your time on it. Equus the piece was way better than Equus the play, and they invited people to send in their photos with it, so try and look that up if you're interested. A picture is worth a thousand words, and it saves me from trying to describe it. It seems like they had a little less material this year than last. Guess they broke the bank on Equus. Admission went up to $25, too. (That's the one thing you had wrong, Christine.) The high cost is the one thing that kept me from granting the Dirty Show a full five stars. Much of the art is reasonably priced, and if you're not in the market for original pieces, there's a large print selection at the back of the show to the left of the main stage. Admission also gets you into Bert's, where you can get your grub on and check out some live jazz. I caught the very tail end of the last set. Be advised you'll get a pat down upon entry. The Dirty Show® is a Detroit institution. It has evolved over the years to become an immersive event that I believe everyone needs to attend, at least once, if only so they can form their own opinion from the experience. I loved the Yelper who pointed out that drinks are "strip-club" priced; I would say that is accurate. Although at current ticket prices ($32/person), why anyone would attend the Dirty Show just to get smashed is beyond me. There is so much to do and see in one night it would be impossible to touch on it all. The Detroit House of Pain is one of my favorite booths to interact with each year, as well as the many talented burlesque acts gracing the main stage. Last year saw the addition of the Cinerotic Film Festival, a showcase of scintillating erotic art film projects. Producer Jerry Vile aims to make the show more interactive than ever this year, with rumors of sexy strolling clowns (complete with dirty balloon art!) and the addition of a sexy sketchy artist. Don't believe the hype (or the haters); if you haven't already, check it out for yourself but don't hesitate: tickets sell out for at least one weekend almost every year! read more

Dirty Show... huh ? I though is he asking me to a show about dirt ? washing machines ? Detroit Politics ? please explain ! Well he did , we went, and oh boy did we see ! Bert's Warehouse is on Russell in the heart of the Eastern Market and on a snowy winters night parking was a little confused, but manageable. We already had tickets so in the door we went, boys to the right, ladies, and those who looked like ladies, to the left for a combo pat down groping. Not sure what they were looking for, weapons, smuggled booze or banded sex objects...................because once we got inside all were visible and available......except cheap booze, it was expensive ! The art was in many media from photos to oil to room sized pieces. The rating on the art would be PG-17 to .... I don't know, what's past XXX... DDDirty. The highlight of the evening was a tie between the people watching and the performance art on the various stages and cage dancers. At the end of the evening (and a few drinks) we had a good time and even purchased a couple of prints from a Montreal artist, Francois DuBeau. Reviewers warning ! My husband and I have been to the Dirty Show on several occasions, and it seems to have gone downhill the past couple of years, ever since it moved to the Russell Industrial Center. It appears to me to be less about the quality of the art and more about taking anything and everything in order to fill up the space. A close-up photograph of a dude getting fisted? Sure. A guy who takes pictures of his own junk? Why not? It seems as though ANY photo of genitals is displayed as though it is the Venus de Milo. Don't get me wrong -- some of the art is quite beautiful. I've been coming to the dirty show for five years. Some the performances have been kinda...meh...but it's so much fun here! I feel like the shows (at least this night) had more burlesque entertainers, which was awesome. I'm writing this as I sit and wait for the performances to begin. Roxi d'lite is my favorite performer. Must see! The prints are fairly cheap...and quite amazing. There are some talented artists and photographers. There's so much people watchin to do! There's so much bondage and sexy pics and beautiful ladies! No dress code! The thing I miss is the seating at Bert's Warehouse near the bar. Also, there were a few poles but they were usually empty. At their previous location, poles and cages littered the floor and there were dancers everywhere. They had two pretty aerialists at Bert's and you always had some kind of little sideshow somewhere. Not so much this year. No more bondage bar either. Parking was convenient but $10. Thank god I had cash to give my friends. I'll still be returning. I've gotten too many addicted and looking forward to going. read more

Attended for the first time with my wife, the store had some interesting art to purchase, as far as the display area it was lacking good erotica. Lots of art was for shock value. Stayed to watch a few of the stage shows but most were quite amateurish. They really need to fill the space as there wasn't a lot of art to look at. Did you ever say to yourself I would love to see vagina's and penis's all in one room at the same time, and on display?..Well you're in store! This erotic art exhibit is one of a kind and one that you will never forget. I have come to this "art" display for at least the last 5 years. Mainly for the people watching. You've seen one penis picture, you've seen them all..yawn! After the shock value wears off, you'll notice things, people, God only knows what spread eagle and painted, paper mached, or duct taped to a canvas...it's kind of weird. There is a main stage where performance art is going on. People vacuuming a living room topless, a fat male dancer flapping his penis like Sisqo and his "Thong Song", people strung from the ceiling wrapped up in rope bondage style, burlesque gals shaking their tatas, and a dominatrix bending people over a chair, beating them with a wooden paddle..I could just go on. The people watching is the best I have ever seen. An 80 year old man wearing a black mesh crop top toting his lady behind him on a leash. A LOT OF LEATHER..a lot. Thigh highs, heels, boots, duct tape covering nipples, assless chaps, and numerous drag queens. I could keep gushing on and on about everyone's attire. (Side note, I do not dress like this) The drinks are outrageously priced. $7 for a bottle of beer..drink in the parking lot before you come in, you'll thank me. You have to go at least once in your lifetime to experience this outrageous display of erotica..$20 dolla make you holla. read more

I didn't really enjoy this show. It seems that any photo of genitalia made the cut. And the performances weren't very good. Its like anyone willing to be half naked was a "performer." I could have done without the gogo dancers. They should have spent more money and time recruiting acts like the aerialists and the pole dancing twins. It is a shame. I 100% agree except the space being taken up wasn't in the gallery... Look art serves different purposes and that's why I love this show. This show pushes the boudary of what constitutes art. Went last year and had a great time, so I was excited to go again this year, but was sorely disappointed. They moved to the Russell Industrial Center, but somehow they didn't take advantage of the space or use it correctly. There were a few poles set up around for pole dancers, they were frequently empty. There was no music except for the stage show - how can you have pole dancers or a good vibe in general without any kind of music? Other then the bondage / tie up and the spanking station off to one side, I didn't see any other acts / activities going on. I recall last year people hanging from the ceiling, people dancing in cages and other random activities throughout Berts. The stage where the main acts were performing didn't have enough seating, and the sound system was awful. The lights in general were too bright, people are out in their kink wear & slut wear, add to the atmosphere a bit by turning down the lights. Other then the seats in front of the stage there was nowhere to sit down. Wearing 3 inch heels (and mine were tame) all night, you need a place to rest your feet. I liked at Bert's where they had booths to hang out and sit your cocktail down. Even some high top tables would have added to the atmosphere and given you a place to rest your drink. Add to that - the price went up $5 a ticket & parking was $10 and it was just disappointing. Drinks were $8 a piece. For their 15th year show I expected a great event, I'm now crossing this off my list as a yearly must do. read more

This was our first Dirty Show. My partner and I came to buy a peice of art. We found something we liked and went to the booth where it said they were selling the art, but no one would help us. There was a young lady at the table chatting with a man. I guess she didn't work there because she wouldn't help us. I'm sorry for the artists who created artwork and hoped to make some money at this exhibition. They should put the art online and let people bid on it, cut out the bad service. I left 1 star because we spent $80 to buy a peice of art and left without any. But the rest of the service at the show was amazing. And the show itself is pretty cool. read more

It's a poorly setup money grab. If you're actually kinky this event is boring and over-hyped. Vanilla folks attend these sort of events because it makes them feel "edgy." Everything is overpriced to the point of being insulting. The "performers" are chosen because because they're somewhat attractive but have no talents or skills. I've attended at least four times because people I knew wanted to go but, the last time I ended up going to the blues/ jazz club next door after an hour, for zero cover and actually enjoyed myself. Most of the art and photography is trite and unoriginal. The prices on said art made me LOL as these folks think they can demand Warhol-like pricing. Bottom line is you will have paid a lot to waste your time if you attend. read more

Anticlimactic ! With a labe like the "Dirty Show" one would expect to see entertainment beyond the ordinary, instead it was lame and boring. The only thing worth seeing is the art on the walls..if you can get through the herds of people. This was our first and last time visiting the dirty show. The art on display was entertaining but when it came time for the shows on stage we were very dissapointed. We stood right in front of the stage behind the seats ( approx 60ft ) and could barely understand the announcer, horrible acoustics. I heard someone ask " do they have a 6th grader running the sound here" . The shows performed on stage were lame and boring, it appeared that the performers were just plucked from the street and never auditioned for the show. Just because someone is willing to be on stage doesnt mean the should be on stage. Ive seen better performances @ a Cirque show. The space was decent and had a great industrial vibe to it but everything else lacked , even the beer selection. Molson, Miller and Griffin Calw..really ? I feel who ever is in the entertainment recruiting dept. should spend some time watching cable and attempt to produce a show that lives up to its name. read more

Disappointed with this years show, the venue was freezing and too small to accommodate the crowd. If you expect people to wear heels then you need to have somewhere for them to sit. Never had a problem with any of that at Berts warehouse. It was so crowded it was difficult to see alot of the art. Usually we would see alot of interesting pieces for sale. If you went to last years show then you are wasting your $$ going this year. Last year there was more interactive stuff for the crowd and always some type of show going on, not this year. Boring! Same O' show...again and again. If you've never gone, it's worth seeing at least once but you probably will not return. A real disappointment the 2nd and 3rd time around. The only thing you have going for yourself is that the bathrooms were not bad at all. We took friends with us this year and I'm embarrassed that I talked them into going.
