The Audio tour is such an advantage for everyone. So while you read the placards and listen to the audio of each station really gives you a feel of what happened before, during and after this event. It is very clean, organized as well. Nice bathrooms and everyone is so nice. Don't be in a hurry when you go and make sure you walk a few steps to the monument. The only thng is it is not accessible for the Deaf/HH because the videos are not captions nor is there a written script of the audio tour.

Having enjoyed a solid breakfast at Lizzy's (see previous review) we headed off to the history and…read moreDiamond Bessie portion of our time in Marshall, Texas. This was the train station Diamond Bessie and Rothchild took to Jefferson, and it still functions as a depot for Amtrack trains as well as a historical location and museum. You drive down a nice residential street with lovely homes to get to the depot. Lots and lots of parking, most of it unused when we were there. There is an overpass you can clearly see from the parking lot that has Marshall, Texas Home of the Boogie Woogie as a sign. This is later explained in a historical marker on the property of which there are quite a few. When you first look over at the depot you can see several old timey trains they have displayed in an outdoor setting. Then there are two historical markers almost right away. One is for the Texas and Pacific depot which gives the history of Marshall's first railroad and what it became than one for Ginocchio Hotel and Restaurant which has a rich history. The restaurant still runs in some form but doesn't open until 5pm and we were there way before that so we sadly didn't get to eat there are see the inside. Fun fact, the original owner Charles Ginocchio owned several properties near the depot including the site where Maurice Barrymore was wounded, and actor Ben Porter was killed by being shot. Maurice is an ancestor of Drew Barrymore. Then you get to the door of the depot to yet another historical marker! This one on the birth of Boogie Woogie. You head down some stairs and a long concrete enclosed walkway which leads to the station where you can catch a train or buy tickets. It's cool it still functions then upstairs is the museum which has limited hours. The museum is very niche, it has some information about the history of trains and travel but it mostly focuses on this depot and its history, some of it very interesting but limited. There was some interactivity with it but the punch card section didn't have any punch cards to use which was disappointing as it limited the interactive part and it double as a souvenir you could take with you. They have some great photos and a large scale model set up in the back that both moves and has a can you find the objects listed as a fun little game. It is a small area and doesn't' take long if you don't have a lot of time but they do pack in quite a bit in the little area. This was fun and interesting, but it won't be for everyone, it is very niche and unless you love Texas History or the history of trains this may not appeal but I am glad we went as learning new things is never a bad thing.

The museum is very well presented and well kept. The artifacts on display are simply amazing! You get to walk through the hall of presidents, and then view Americas history through the cost of war. Starting with revolutionary war and the build up to it through the Afghanistan conflict. There is more to see and read than can be taken in in one visit. We spent several hours in there, and even as a bit of a history buff myself, I walked away with some new information.
