We contacted several Doulas that we had found by researching online and received a response from T'Arah at Mother Bear Doula Services within hours. T'Arah promptly answered our initial questions and we ended up scheduling to meet in person to talk more in depth about our expectations, wishes, past experiences, etc.. Soon after arriving at the coffee shop, just myself with my toddler in tow, we ordered some drinks and snacks and settled at a table to get to know each other. Of course it wasn't long before my son became antsy and distracted; but Tarah immediately came to the rescue, pulling coloring supplies out of her bag and playing Paw Patrol on her phone for him to watch. I had barely met her and she was already such a great help to me! ;) I felt an instant comfortability with T'Arah; I was totally comfortable with going into detail of my previous birth, which had been a traumatic experience, and could sense that she was sincerely invested in mine and my husband's concerns, wishes and preferences.. She listened, asked questions, provided advice and input and acknowledged my feelings. We shared personal stories and got to know each other more in depth than just birth related topics. More than interviewing her to be our Doula, I felt like I had just made a friend who helped me to feel excited and empowered to give birth! A few short weeks later, and after meeting with T'Arah a few more times as well as going to the hospital tour together, it was time to have our baby! I had hoped and dreamed that this birth would progress naturally, without induction, but when the time came, there were reasons for my husband and myself to ultimately decide that induction would be the safest course of action for getting our baby out as soon as we could. I was initially heartbroken and scared, but Tarah was there every step of the way, going out of her way to teach us natural labor inducing techniques which did actually help tremendously, as well as staying available to text or call for anything we needed. When the time came to be induced and start our Childbirth journey, T'Arah was present and alert, providing all the support we both needed from walking, getting snacks/drinks, talking, joking, massaging, physically holding me up, counseling, calming, etc.. in spite of being induced, T'Arah encouraged us in taking every step we could to have a birth that we truly wanted, and I succeeded in taking it one step at a time to have the natural birth I had wished for without further intervention. T'Arah played a key role in helping me have a birth experience that I am proud of and I will always be grateful to her for that. We will definitely have T'Arah as our Doula for any future babies!

They are knowledgeable, emotionally supportive, and genuinely caring. They made me feel safe and respected the entire time. They have solutions for everything and did so well educating me on health, nutrition, my body, pregnancy, and the delivery process. Every part of my experience with them felt intentional and thoughtful, from the amazing childbirth classes with Brooke, to their newborn specialist Diana who was such a huge support after delivery. Anita was always so helpful and kind as well. I always felt listened to, never rushed, and like I mattered to them. They went above and beyond for me in ways I'll never forget, and because of them I had not just one, but two of the most beautiful birth experiences I could have EVER imagined. I've never felt as safe and loved as I did here. I truly don't know how I would've survived without them. I feel beyond blessed to have found this birth center. Mothers BEWARE. At my midwife appointment, I was asking my midwife more knowledge about…read morehemorrhaging, tearing, and just what their protocols would be. This was my first home birth experience. As a patient I should be able to ask questions, express fears, in hopes to gain knowledge and reassurance back from my midwife. A few days later, I get a call from them saying they can no longer see me and think a hospital birth would be more fitting. Mind you, I am 31 weeks pregnant. Healthy pregnancy, no reason for a hospital birth. All I did was ask what they do in an instance of a mother bleeding too much, or tearing ect. They not only pocketed $1600 from me, but dropped me high and dry so late into my pregnancy because I asked what do they do in a "what if" instance were to happen. As mothers, and going the unmedicated home birth route, or even a birthing center route, we should be allowed and welcomed to talk about these types of things with our midwife. I am absolutely shocked from the care we have received from them and how we were so poorly managed. They claim they're a faith based Christian center, but I see no grace, compassion, or anything Christian about how we were handled. Mothers, please find somewhere else. Would hate for you to express or even ask a simple question and they take your money and drop you.

We had such an amazing experience at the beautiful and welcoming Frisco Birth Center for both births and formed a truly special relationship with Margie that will never be forgotten. Margie is an incredibly kind, gentle, supportive, knowledgeable, and professional midwife who genuinely cares about her clients in a way that is rare in any medical setting. Throughout pregnancy, she promptly answered any questions or concerns that arose, even making herself available between visits as needed, despite her busy schedule. Our older children came with me to prenatal appointments and they adore her as much as we do! She took the time to teach them and let them get involved in finding baby's heartbeat and position, which helped them get so excited to meet their new sibling. Leading up to the birth, we had some unusual findings in one of the blood samples that were run, and she put in extra time and effort to help us find the answers we needed to feel confident in our birth plan. There was also a risk of hemorrhage, but she wisely helped us weigh all of our options before, during, and after the birth so that we could have the safe and beautiful delivery we hoped for. Margie and her assistant midwife, Neta (who is also wonderful), accurately assessed the health of both mom and baby and responded quickly and professionally to any concerns that arose, including a very fast transition and delivery and maternal bleeding. For my second birth I gave birth at Allen Birthing Center which was fantastic! This third time around, I decided to do several interviews of midwives in the area. I felt an instant connection to Margie and I knew that I wanted to go with her. I was having some financial issues at the time but she allowed me to make a payment plan and get a substantial discount. She really does care about people and want to help in any way possible. If you have formerly received obstetric care, I think you'll find that out-of-hospital midwifery care is a night and day opposite experience. Obstetrics focuses mostly on the baby and is very fear-based. Margie is very holistic in her methods and believes in the woman's body's capability to birth. She knows that the mother's emotional state is just as important as what is going on with her physically. Through our appointments I let her know my goals for my birth, including my desire to birth in an upright position. I was definitely nervous day of but Damon eased those feelings once we got started. Damon gave us so much great information regarding how to get away from dangerous situations, how to stay alert and aware of our surroundings, what could happen if I was in a bad situation - lots of hands-on training and step-by-step instructions. Damon was easy to talk to, listened intently to our questions and answered them thoroughly with real life examples. I hope I never have to use these newly acquired skills but I know if I'm ever put in a life-threatening situation, I'll be prepared. I HIGHLY recommend his class! I can't wait to take the next one!
