As we pulled in, the parking lot was 90% massive trucks. As we walked through the doors, 90% cowboy hat-adorned patrons stared at us. It was intimating but I hoped they wouldn't bite. Our server was super friendly and put us at ease. Much to my disappointment, they only serve breakfast before 11 and this was around noon, so I wouldn't be able to try the texas waffle. I went with my back up, grilled cheese and couldn't resist the fried biscuit on the menu so added that to the tab. GF ordered the fried steak sandwich. This was obviously the lunch rush and that became very apparent. It took almost an hour for our food to come out and that really fucked us with the timing of our day. When the food did come, it was delicious. My grilled cheese was served on two thiccc slices of bread with melty american cheese. I would have preferred if the bread was toasted even a little bit. The sandwich was served with ridged chips. Regarding the fried steak sandwich, GF reports "it was heavy but tasty, not what I usually eat". She received tots on the side which were the crispiest tots I have ever had. I don't have words for the fried biscuit. It was out of this world. I can't do it justice by describing it. It was ORGASMIC. I'm glad I probably won't have the opportunity to eat this again because that shit is DANGEROUS. Food was very solid, service excellent, wait was a challenge.

You're not from 'round here, are ya'?…read more We wandered off I-40 to find some sustenance (not wanting to eat at a Dairy Queen or truck stop). We landed in downtown McLean at Lolly's. Upon entering, we were greeted by the cashier/busboy/waiter with, "Ya'll traveling?" We were the only non-locals in this joint. Fun spot to stop just for the local color. Lolly's is also a sort of grocery store, even though a lot of the shelves were bare. They also have a daily lunch buffet--"all you can eat" we were told. (The buffet was only about three feet long but they kept getting phones calls to see what was being served that day---chicken fried steak.) We split a bacon cheese burger (because it was a half pound affair) and some onion rings. Burger was well done but tasty. Everything was clean and service was friendly. Definitely not fancy, but cute and quaint. (One patron came in to buy cinnamon but the shelves were bare. No, worries. The cashier just went to the kitchen and came out with a small to-go cup with a bit of cinnamon in it for her. Gotta love small towns! )

It's located on a street that looks completely deserted, and actually is for the most part. I mean, it looks like an old western movie set or something! It's just a stones throw from old Route 66 which is why I'm assuming most people would be in the neighborhood. It was our stop between The Route 66 Museum in Elk, OK and Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo, TX. We were of course the only people in this little joint decorated with 50's nostalgia.... The cuisine is American comfort food as is most along the infamous highway. Here it's offered at insanely low prices. The kiddos were starving and ordered a pizza, 1/2 plain, 1/2 mushroom, a single pancake and some kind of corn nuggets the staff suggested with creamy dipping sauce. Kiddos were totally satisfied, loved the extra cheesy pizza and those fried corn things and had leftover pizza for that night. The guys that worked here were all super sweet. One was even originally from near my hometown! Another reason to stop here beside cheap nosh is a freezer filled with pops, microwaveable meals to go, as well as some toiletries, necessities, and groceries. It's definitely geared to those of us on the go, traveling The Mother Road. *Oh, and there's a gas station around the corner. We were told to fill up there as there's not another one for miles and miles! **A couple of neat things we stumbled upon while in the area are an old fashion abandoned gas station great for photo ops as well as a 10 Commandments sculpture on a corner just in front of the towns church which was pretty ironic being that it was Passover when we were here.
