Being new to town, someone we met recommended Outback Marine. We took our boat in last winter to…read morehave it winterized and to have the company check the engine due to engine loss earlier in the summer. We were told the timing for everything would be a couple of months (close to December), which was fine considering the time of the year. In January, we called to ask about timing. We were informed Outback Marine was backed up and it would take longer. We waited and as spring came, we called again. We were told the issue was a cylinder and we needed a new motor. Soon after, we picked up the boat and brought it home. Upon inspection of the boat, we discovered a broken rocker--the engine culprit, which meant we did not need a new motor. He also found a crack in the motor, which happened because the boat was not properly winterized. We called the company. They said to bring in the boat and did own up, stating they did not properly winterize the boat. This realization did make us nervous as we feared other things had gone wrong. When Outback agreed to fix the crack, we asked them to install a new fin as ours was broken. They estimated approximately $100 for a new fin with approximately one to two weeks turnaround. Over the next couple of weeks, we called to check in on the boat repairs. We were told parts were on back order, the motor wasn't finished, etc. We returned to the marine to try and get the boat on the water while waiting for the fin. The engine did not run, which did not make sense. We talked with someone at Outback again and they did not have an answer. Were almost always talking to someone different and it appeared there was not a great deal of communication passed between employees. We returned the boat to the marine the same day we tried taking it into the water and continued to wait for the new fin. Another week or so later, we returned to pick up the item after we called and learned the boat was fixed. When picking up the boat, my husband was told the fin was more expensive than originally estimated (over $100 more) as they had to order a different fin than originally thought. We were not informed of the additional cost and were not asked if we would approve the more expensive purchase. Patience now gone, my husband just paid the bill. When he brought the boat home to research the issue, which my husband now thought was a fuel problem, we discovered that someone disconnected a wire. My husband reconnected the wire and now the boat runs. Not only did we almost buy a new motor, which wasn't necessary, our boat was never winterized, items were disconnected and not reconnected, and we were not asked permission for a much more expensive fin. We take blame for not arguing the price of the fin and for not calling more to find out a timeframe after we were quoted a much shorter time frame.

My family and I have been boating on Lake Monroe for 30 years as I grew up on that Lake. 446 Marine…read moreformerly known as Outback Marine had been in business since I was a kid. My parents had taken their boat motor issues to Outback for years with great service and customer service. Last fall my wife and I had purchased a used pontoon boat with a 90 HP Yamaha four stroke engine. (2007) model year. We also purchased a new camper and settled down in a seasonal campground in the area which my parents and family have been in for many years. So unfortunately one day this summer 2020 back in late June when we were on the Lake developed a bad engine noise and had to get off the water. When we got back to the campground I immediately called 446 Marine and discussed my issue. They told me that they were open Sunday the next day if I wanted to bring it in, but warned me that they were backed up and it would be four weeks before they could get me in. So without many choices we brought the boat in and dropped it off. Not hearing a thing from them for four weeks they finally called me and told me that I have wasted gears in my gear case and that they wouldn't be the ones to help me with this issue. My first question was why not ?? I was told that since they're not a Yamaha Dealer they wouldn't be able to help me with this issue. My 2nd question "Then why in the hell did you waste my time if you had no intentions on working on my engine"??? I was very upset that they wasted my four weeks of my summer, didn't offer any help or suggestions. My third question was "So how about the rest of the items on my list did you look at those ?? no we did not was the answer I got . Well, they replied (Linda) we can work on Yamaha but it takes so long for us to get parts it could be weeks before we get them. So at this point I picked up the boat from them and was charged $65 for labor when the mechanic never dropped the lower unit, never did any testing , and I believe all he did was spin the prop and said yep bad gears. I brought the boat back to the campground and noticed that my boat trailer license plate had been bent in half. So, I told my wife that I'll just fix the damn thing myself. So, I ordered a new lower unit for my engine, and replaced the tilt trim motor and steering cable myself. At this point I'm so very, very, disappointed in 446 Marine. The only reason I went there was of their past reputation. So to my fellow boaters stay away if I were you !!! Get on you tube and learn as much as you can about your particular motor or boat. It will save you time and money. I'll never step foot in this shop ever again !!! oh, and my favorite thing yet was they didn't even give me the key to the boat engine I had to go back in and get it, then told me wife if there's anything we can do for you guys please let us know. Really !!!!
