Strange stairway entrance, but everything past that is cool. Definitely a cool small venue.

We saw at least 50 women with bigger purses walk through. When we complained we were told that these bags were for "a medical issue". Yeah. Right. You can carry in rolled up blankets, folding chairs, and the like, but a 8"x8" purse? NO WAY. I set off the metal detector due to jewelry, and rather than wanding me, they told me I had to take "Everything Off". YOU COULD SEE I HAD BRACELETS AND A WATCH. Stupid, and amateurish. Typical Rochester Hills "look like us, or pay the price" mentality. SO glad I moved out of this judgemental shit hole. Elvis Costello was great, but this venue needs to hire professional security, not off duty teachers and Best Buy employees.

As we easily parked and strolled over to our seats in the pavillion I said to my husband and mom, "I think this is my favorite outdoor venue ever." And they agreed. It's just big enough to get great acts, just small enough that getting in isn't a huge production (why yes I have lost my car in the Pine Knob parking lot thankyouverymuch), parking was free, the sound was fantastic, and every seat in the pavillion rules. But if you want to go lawn you'll still have a really great view (although I honestly always go pavillion because when I go to a show I wanna SEE the band/artist). And the grounds are PRETTY. The trees, the the waterfall, all lovely. Still not a ton of food and beverage options but that's fine. I rarely eat at shows anyway because they charge so much. I will say, everyone in my entire party did get a soft pretzel here that night and we were all VERY pleased with them. Highly recommend.

A quintessential Michigan summer experience: the lawn at Pine Knob Music Theatre (fka DTE Energy…read moreMusic Theatre). I had the chance to experience it first hand this past week, and it was better than expected: 1) parking was free! we didn't pay for the premier/VIP lot though (it was already sold out by the time I tried to get it!) 2) concessions were priced as expected, BUT i was surprised by the variety AND the food options. Also on the lawn, like a baseball game, you have folks walking around selling water, lemonade, etc. 3) the overall vibe was great - people were having fun (maybe too much fun ahah). Didn't realize there was a tailgate culture since it was: *3:30pm Parking Opens *6pm Doors *7:30pm Music! The opener started on time and played about an hour and the main act started on time. They had speakers going out into the lawn so I could hear JUST fine. I found it helpful to have my earplugs still hit 95dbs. I think being inside the pavilion sounded way to reverb-y so I really enjoyed the lawn. 4) We rented chairs and found it worth it at $15 each (with $5 deposit returned to you). We left a little early before the last couple of songs so it was pretty easy getting out! All in all, a great experience!

Give yourself time to get to the show early and you'll be just fine. Traffic control once you're off the highway and going in and out of the venue is very good these days. The parking lots are plentiful. The earlier you go, the better spot you get. It's all free except for VIP which I don't know why people pay that uncharge. Tailgating is alive and well here. Bring your gear and hang before the shows. The drink options inside are varied. You can find Michigan beers and local restaurants inside. The addition I'm most excited to try is the Fed (a local Clarkston restaurant that has built a satellite here). Like every live event, drinks are stupid expensive. Offset that slightly by bringing a 20 oz. sealed water bottle in with you. One per person. Chairs should be beach height only (no more than 12 inches off the ground). You can bring blankets as well or instead of for lawn seating. There are reserved/covered seats as well. Sound is great here. There are monitors in the lawn section so you can actually see something. Most concerts end by 11 due to the noise ordinance. No clear recycle bins until after you leave the show. Great for dropping cans off on your way in, but a complete miss on the way out when you have to throw plastic and metal in a garbage bin. Tip: go to the box office to save on the absurd ticket service fees. Check their hours before you go.

So it was a little quieter than usual which I didn't mind. The server was kind and attentive. The smoked old fashioned was delicious despite not having the large ice cube. The sliders, truffle fries, and fried biscuit were also delicious even when the leftovers were heated days later at home. Always a great choice no matter the occasion.

The music was actually so loud it was hard to catch up with my friend. I wasn't aware of how cozy the spot was. We weren't allowed to sit next to each other (understandably so, the seats are designed for two/four people to sit across from each other like normal) so that made it easiest to just quiet up and listen to the music. I have no problem with that, the singer was great! The waitress was kind for even checking with the manager to see if we could adjust the seating arrangement. I had to ask lol I had the fried salmon bites, very salty but good flavor. Oh, and one of the two bathroom stalls wouldn't close but luckily girl code helped us stay secure! This spot is a hidden gem especially for those who appreciate a very intimate live music performance, when they have it. I'd like to try more of the food.
