First, on Friday and Saturday it turns into a bit of a 30s plus meat market with the singles crowd dressed to impress. Secondly, the baby changing facilities are in the Ladies toilets. This gets awkward when I'm there with my kids and need to change one. It's annoying especially since they very recently refurbished. Other than that, this is a good all around place to go.

There are two different bar areas, one less formal than the other although the food served seem to be the same in both. The average age seemed to be 40s and above though although being younger than that I did not feel uncomfortable. There is a decent selection of food, which I enjoyed, although my partner was a bit disappointed with his salad, which was tiny! Good thing we ordered a side of chips and that my tuna sandwich was huge enough to share. A good place for a quiet drink but nothing really outstanding about this pub, at least not the first time.

We came for Sunday lunch where it's possible to order from the full a la carte menu as well as the Sunday special. The full menu is very extensive - one of our party ordered the Beef Bourguignon which he thought was superb. Effectively this turned out to be a huge hunk of braised beef and in truth it looked fantastic. The rest of us ordered from the Sunday menu and went for either the beef or the chicken. The beef (a sirloin) was cooked pink, which pleased me and was good. The trimmings were OK. With the Sunday menu, it's possible to add a starter and dessert for an additional £2.50 per course. I went for the cauliflower soup which again was good but unfortunately the chocolate and banana mousse hadn't set, so it was more like a chocolatey banana soup. I'm not in the area much but this place was very busy, especially considering the one-time Michelin star rated Chapter One is literally across the road. So it's clearly a hit with the locals - lots of families! I would have probably dished out four stars had the dessert not been such a flop as it was a very pleasant dinner even in slightly cramped surroundings.
