Extremely Disappointed, Poor Quality Control and Customer Service I rarely take the time to write a negative review, but our experience with The Cover Guy has been incredibly disappointing. We purchased a custom rolling cover for our Bullfrog X8 and made a significant investment because we expected a quality product and a company that would stand behind it. We carefully followed the ordering and installation instructions and handled the cover with care from the moment it arrived. After several weeks, we experienced our first rainfall and discovered water pooling between the spine sections. Upon carefully removing and inspecting the cover, we found a very obvious puncture/hole in the liner. The condition of the damage appears consistent with pressure or improper handling during manufacturing or shipping--not something caused by normal use. We immediately submitted a warranty claim, expecting the company to stand behind its product. Unfortunately, The Cover Guy's response was anything but "hassle-free." Their customer service team took approximately a week to respond to our warranty claim, only to deny coverage because we supposedly failed to contact them within three days of receiving the product. This is particularly frustrating when the defect was not apparent until we actually used the cover and experienced rainfall. The company's own delay in responding to our claim was then effectively used against us. What made the experience even more concerning was the apparent use of different names by their customer service representatives. During a phone call to the company's business line, I was told that an employee named Erica had received our information and was reviewing the claim. I explained that the only person who had contacted me was someone named Maria. The response was essentially, "Oh yes, that's Erica." That interaction left us extremely uncomfortable and questioning the transparency of the company we were dealing with. The biggest issue isn't simply that we received a damaged product. Things can happen during manufacturing and shipping. The issue is how the company chooses to handle it when a customer brings the problem to their attention. We purchased an expensive product expecting quality, durability, and reasonable customer support. Instead, we received a damaged cover and then experienced a warranty process that felt designed to find a reason not to honor the claim. Calling the warranty "hassle-free" while refusing to assist a customer with an apparent defect, particularly after the customer carefully followed the instructions and handled the product properly, is extremely disappointing. Bought a brand-new cover for $650 -- not top of the line, but far from cheap. You'd expect it to survive a single rainstorm before failing. Instead, it started sagging immediately and looks worse after every storm. I reached out multiple times to give the company a chance to make it right before posting this. It took five days to get a reply, and their response was a joke -- asking for endless photos, instructions to open the cover, and "verification" that it's still under warranty. I've ordered multiple covers from them and each time has been just short of a nightmare, dealing with their poor customer service and the product itself. Multiple rips stitching coming out, waterlogged foam core inserts that they claim to be double wrapped which are only single wrapped after opening and inspecting the damage. They refused my warranty claim and told me that they cannot send me a new foam insert even after all of the issues that have happened in the past, they tried to say that it was bad chemistry on the hot tub, even though I have been taking care of hot tubs and running my own business for 28 year. What I got was a far cry from a cover that would fit my spa. The cover hangs over on all sides. It is not square. I went back-and-forth with their representative via email for about 10 days. Their only solution was that I had provided the wrong information. I'm not sure what's wrong with their website, but I did input the spa make and model and then secondarily the dimensions. Cover Guys Spa Covers - Caveat Emptor Bottom line up top: Cover Guys spa covers are not designed to last long in a typical spa environment. The plastic enclosing the Styrofoam will deteriorate in two to three years, and the top will become waterlogged and very heavy. Cover Guys will not honor the warranty, citing chemical damage as an exception to their coverage. I strongly suggest you take your spa cover business elsewhere. It's too late for me, but hopefully not for you. On November 24, 2023, we ordered a spa cover from The Cover Guy for our Hot Spring Spa. This cover was the Extreme edition that included the following: 2 lb high density foam, Vapor proof barrier seal/energy shield, and a fully insulated hinge. The total cost was US$709.96. The tag on the cover said it was manufactured on December 4, 2023, and it arrived later in that month. We paid a lot for this cover, and expected it to last 7 to 8 years, as our previous two covers did. The cover came with a seven year pro-rated warranty, which was a major factor in our decision to purchase from The Cover Guy. A little more than two years later, we noticed that the top was becoming waterlogged and very heavy. When we unzipped and drained the top, we saw that the plastic bag enclosing the Styrofoam had rotted away. Further investigation revealed a corroded stabilization plate. I contacted The Cover Guy about this issue on March 13, 2026. The representative requested pictures, which we provided. On March 16, 2026, the representative told us: "We regret to inform you that our production team has identified the damage as chemical-related, which falls outside the scope of our warranty coverage. However, we genuinely want to assist you in purchasing a new cover and are happy to extend a 10% discount on your next order." I informed them that we do not do anything unusual chemically with our spa. We use only chlorine specifically formulated for spas, we do not overchlorinate, and we do not use an ozonator or any other chemicals or shock treatments. In short, ours is a typical spa environment and the covers they make are not adequately designed to function in such an environment. In their response, they only repeated what they said before. On March 18, 2023, The Cover Guy sent me a survey asking me how I would rate the support I received. I completed the survey and informed them that I was very dissatisfied. They did not respond. Around this time, I saw a Facebook post/advertisement for the The Cover Guy and I posted about my experience in the comments. They responded, restating their stance along with the 10% off offer. I have heard nothing more from them. This was the third spa cover we have purchased for this spa. The other two covers, from different manufacturers, lasted 7 to 8 years, and they failed because of deteriorating vinyl that was exposed to weather and seams that began to fail. Neither of those covers failed or became waterlogged due to deteriorating plastic. Clearly, the failure of The Cover Guys spa cover is due to inadequate design, not chemicals. We did not accept their 10% off cover, as it was clearly inadequate. If we did take it, we get a cover that would fail within three years. It made a lot more financial sense to order a new cover at full price from a reputable manufacturer that would last 7 to 8 years. A bit of internet research revealed that our issue was not isolated. There are a great number of negative reviews out there about The Cover Guy spa covers, and not very many positive reviews. They have a major quality issue and they know it, but they will not admit it. Nor will they try to make it right with the customer, providing only a token counteroffer. I finally got a hold of someone by phone after 2 weeks who said he would contact the carrier and get back to me.My cover was left at my front door the next day........and didn't hear back from anyone at the Cover Guy.I did email the Cover Guy to let them know I received my cover and got a reply that they were looking to upgrade their tracking system and maybe use a different carrier in the future. Beware when you order a hot tub cover from The Cover Guy. Even if you follow their online order form, they will find a way to state that they required 'special instructions' from you and refuse to admit their mistake. Case in point - we ordered a hot tub cover, selected the correct manufacturer, model and year of production. Their form gives you back the exact measurements. We verified that they were correct. We then looked at THEIR illustration of where the straps are placed. The illustration clearly shows that the C placement is right exactly at the end of the corner radius. What we received were straps that were approximately 5" towards the center, meaning that the straps would fall in the middle of the hot tub door louvers, with no place to screw in the bottom half of the clip. When I FINALLY was able to speak to a supervisor after having NO success with their email customer service, he stated that they 'followed industry standards for strap placement' and even though he agreed that both of my points were valid, they still expected me to pay for them shipping out a replacement cover skin AND find someone to install it as neither my wife (acute arthritis) and myself (cancer treatment) would be able to do the repair ourselves. The other issue which they flat out refused to admit was that the color of the the cover we received was not at all the same as the image on their website. Now on the phone, the supervisor was polite but still refused to admit their mistake and totally rectify it at no cost. Even if they did, we still would have had to pay someone locally to install the replacement skin. I would never buy anything from The Cover Guy again. I purchased a cover 5 years ago, with 7 year prorated warranty, and upgraded the thickness and material. At the time, they also informed me that if I ever needed to order a replacement, they had all my info. I received a notification several months ago that they had moved their info to a new system and that all my orders and dimensions had been migrated. I created a login account but there was no record there. Meanwhile, the cover had become too heavy to open and close for my wife (hot tub is sheltered so it absorbed water from the tub) and tried to order a new one under the pro-rated warranty. Javier informed me they would need photos as well as a copy of the invoice (which they could not find). Inside the cover is an order slip sealed in plastic which outlines the specifics of the order. I provided all of that and they just got back to me stating that they no longer had the template, that "Since you have a unique shape and we do not have a template on file for your spa, we request that you make a plastic template. I've attached an instruction guide to this email to help! ** There is an additional $100 design fee for custom plastic templates. Warning! This company has the worst customer service I may have ever dealt with! The manager was so rude and insulting. I bought one of the most expensive custom covers you could buy and it had to be replaced just outside of the 3 year mark. The warranty process is laughable. They deny all claims after one year and force you to pay an aggressive prorated amount for replacement parts, regardless of whether or not, their product was defective. The cheap cover that I bought originally with the Jacuzzi was half the price and it lasted me 7 years. This overpriced cover lasted a little over three years and the stitching on the top broke wide open with standard and minimal usage. I mean at the most we use the Jacuzzi once a week for maybe 30 minutes at a time so it's hardly ever on the lifter to begin with. After the seems broke about 3 weeks later the inside of the cover started taking on rainwater to the point where I couldn't lift the cover anymore because the inside of the cover was waterlogged. The company made me pay $220 to replace the cover citing that I was using the wrong lifter. The broken seem that's supposed to be so much better than all the other covers is the reason why they made me pay the $220 originally. I asked what lifter I should've used and they said I had to use their lifter which, as it turns out is the exact same lifter that they have for sale online. Once we got the cover, pulled back and drained, we were able to inspect the condition of the foam cores which were full of with water and rusted out at the end caps. So the water had been getting inside the double wrapping and not just in between the outside cover and the wrapped foam cores. The manager that I spoke with tried to insult my intelligence by saying that the chemical composition in my Jacuzzi had to penetrate the plastic and that I was improperly maintaining my pool, which justified them only giving me a 20% discount on the foam cores. Their position was that they were doing me a huge favor for my improper usage of my Jacuzzi and lifter, which is completely untrue without facts, and he then suggested that I spend another $250 on the replacement cores. So overall after three years they wanted me to spend $470 on my warranty cover that supposedly had a stronger cover with better stitching and double wrapped cores, when my original cover that had the same user on the same Jacuzzi with the same chemical composition, on the same lifter lasted 7 years without any of this happening. I made a suggestion that they put a terms and conditions part on their website to protect customers by educating them on their horrible warranty coverage policy by indicating things like using Vaseline on the stitches, using their lifter, and using whatever chemical composition they recommend to protect their cover to validate the warranty coverage. The response I got from the extremely rude and arrogant Manager was; "now you're trying to tell me how to run my company and you're making suggestions for future customers" which he said, "seemed very arrogant on my part". I said what is arrogant about trying to protect other people's investments so that they are fully aware of their warranty coverage so that you don't have another upset customer like the one you have right now. He rudely dismissed me and told me he had been on the phone with me for too long and that his time was too valuable to spend any more time on me. Unless you love dealing with businesses that love to charge you a king's ransom for their product, tell you how much better their product is that everyone else's , fall extremely short of that claim and then avoid future Warranty claims at all cost,maybe save yourself the money and the headache and go buy yourself a normal top and stay far away from the cover guy. read more

Received my tub cover and it fits well. However they used a low quality vinyl and while I thought I was receiving a solid gray cover it is not! The entire cover is a mix of light and dark gray, very blotchy. Customer service guy told me that is typical of the vinyl their manufacturer uses. So don't think you are getting a solid color. Yikes. I wish I'd read the reviews on The Cover Guy before buying. The horrible reviews are justified.... I bought my replacement spa cover in 2021...and for the first year I was pretty happy with it. Then I noticed the interior covering (water side, not the top side) was starting to get really "puffy" and seemed to be water logging. Now in my second year with the cover, it's completely water logged and weighs a TON because it's so full of water. Additionally the fancy upgraded cover material has come apart at the seams - likely a result of the weight - and the stitching around the bottom is completely coming apart. This is a very lightly used cover I should add, and has not seen a ton of use over the last two years. I took pix and sent to customer service and there had been no response. None. I followed up, but it's been a week now... So TBD whether the warranty will help me here but I'm not holding my breath. Ordered a replacement hottub cover for my Sundance Hamilton tub. I ordered the straps according to the diagram as provided by the cover guys website. I had basically 4 choices, position A,B,C or D. I chose C as that best lined up with my hottub. Well, they were several inches off so I can not lock the cover down. Turns out, none of the positions would work. Customer service very unhelpful as they recommended I drill into the shell or buy a new sleeve. I asked the company for an acceptable resolution so they stopped communicating with me. Soooooooooooo apparently they've never shipped a hot tub cover before! Don't do it! Too many other options. We received our cover less than a year ago, and we paid extra for the fancy worthless upgrades just to have the inside c channel to completely rust and the extra protection inside liner, that we paid "extra" for COMPLETELY disintegrated, and started retaining water and becoming very heavy. Myself being disable and trying to open this heavy cover is becoming a challenge. So we emailed their crappy warranty department and FINALLY after a month and a half they finally responded for them to just tell us that it's OUR FAULT that it's falling apart and rusting and the refuse to do anything about it! DO NOT buy from this company! They will NOT stand by their so called "warranty!" This is a waste of $600!!! If I could I would give them zero stars! It's a piece of crap! read more

The cover the we purchased in the summer of 2023 is already falling apart. The inside is moldy and it is too heavy to lift. Cover Guy is blaming it on chemicals, but I know that is not true. Our previous cover lasted 8 years. They are declining to honor the warranty. DO NOT purchase from this company ever. read more

Two concerns are product quality and customer service. Within three months my cover was showing signs of deep cracks and tears. This material may be suitable for warm climates but it's not suitable climates below freezing. I purchased the most expensive cover for cold climates. They advertise a white glove no hassle warranty experience. Mine was different. Weeks pass by between email responses. They make the true claim that the covers are made in North America, but they should be more specific to state they are made in Mexico. I would advise if you do roll the dice and order from The Cover Guys to use a credit card so you will have a warranty through your credit card because you can't count on the warranty they offer. I tried to resolve this matter with the BBB and they ghosted the BBB. I'm following the Better Business Bureau's advice and I'm off to see if the Attorneys General office for the state of New York can provide assistance. read more
