So i thought what have i got to lose and it was the best decision I've made. My bad back was not the problem it was the associated pain in my Hip, leg and dead foot. I suffered from a knee injury related to marathon training and despite my reluctance to have to pay for physiotherapy I really had to bite the bullet and pay a visit to James. For sports related injury I think it's really worth going to someone based in a gym, they know about running so can advise from both sides. After a initial assessment he found the problem and I have had a few follow up treatment sessions - they are expensive (£40 for the assessment and £35 thereafter) but he seems very good at what he's doing and it's the sort of thing - if you need it then you need it. I would highly recommend.

The space isn't huge, so there's only one of each Cardiovascular trainers, and as such is more geared towards circuits and weight training than the treadmill machines. Having said that, it never gets busy, so the times I've been I've never not been able to get on the equipment I needed. There's a real sense of personal service though, which is its main selling feature. For £35 a month, they'll give you a 15 minute assessment, and give you a programme designed to help you towards whatever goal you're trying to reach. There's always a personal trainer around, and they really care to take the time to have a chat and make sure everything is going well each time you come in. They also offer martial arts and yoga, so it's a well rounded gym off the beaten track - well worth the effort.

This practice does charge around twice as much as others in the area - about £60 per treatment. However I always need one or two treatments and my problem is fixed for at least a year, whereas before I would have 6 or 7 treatments and get to a stage where I could cope for 6 months before going back again. This therefore works out more ecenomical in the long run. They are extremely well trained at this practice and take their time with you - often throwing in a free massage to help free up muscles etc. A nice friendly atmosphere - they don't take cards tho - only cash or cheque , often they have emergency appointments available if you phone first thing in the morning. In fact I've now used three different osteopaths, not because the previous ones were bad it's just they've retired and I've moved house. In fact my first osteopath was a blind guy which was interesting - he sorted my back pain in one session which was pretty impressive. James at Clevedon Osteopath was brilliant (he was fully sighted as far as I'm aware), he took time to understand my situation, talked constantly, telling me what he was doing (that's a good thing by the way) and really made a difference. At the end of the second session we'd made real progress, enough that I don't think I need to go back again. The important bit here was that he was happy for me to make that decision, I was pressured to continue treatment and he left it with me. The practice itself is in a nice old building which I'm guessing was once a home but is a smart, brightly lit, professional feeling environment. My knowledge of backs and the treatment is very limited but James seemed to really know his stuff, was able to talk about recent studies and took an interest in my situation - I certainly didn't feel like another number (or back) being crunched. If you've got a bad back, skip the doctor and for a very reasonable amount you can get rid of that pain a lot quicker.
